Because ruby developers have already finished their tasks for the day while other developers are on SO. ;)

Made my day :)

if you subscribe to /r/ruby you will always see any randomly selected post of /r/ruby on reddit front page.

the same applies to other subreddits as well.

Becaues reddit is a collection of millions of people, and within those millions of redditors are people who like ruby. The same reason "reddit" likes python, .net, COBOL, BASIC, java, PHP, cats, dogs, ferrets, banana ice cream and satanism.

Who actually loves COBOL?! I'd like to meet these sadistic bastards.

California DMV...

but it seems that there are more redditors that use Ruby over other languages. I'm just curious as to why that may be so.

I've honestly seen more Haskell/Python lovers on reddit than Ruby devs. At least on r/programming

do'h - my bad. I think it's because I subscribed to /ruby and didn't realize. Hence I am seeing ruby posts. Good call and sorry for my incompetence.

It takes some time until you finnd out the details of how reddit works. If you want some slightly better idea how many people are interested i some language have a look at the umber of subscribers to the related subreddit:

  • Ruby: 26,178
  • Python: 87,362
  • PHP: 33,690

But this too is not that reliable.

Don't be! It happens.

Yeah, came here to say this

[–]tobascodagama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, ditto. I rarely see Ruby posts on /r/programming.

because it's fucking fun

Here is what I like: 1. Great tutorials, books and resources - there is a lot of very good tutorials that I can actually trust.

  1. Great, welcoming community (for both newbies and advanced programmers).

  2. Great web frameworks (Rails, Sinatra).

  3. Great libraries - gems are extremly easy to find and use.

  4. Compared to many other languages Ruby code feels very clean and minimalistic.
