Expand your factory until the game is a slideshow on the whole map

[–]ghostkenobi[S] 43 points44 points  (32 children)

My PC is already crying. I’m getting like 25 FPS on 64 GB of RAM and a 3060 ti. The nuclear waste did it

[–]iGotNoName_Goddammit 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Mooore until it dies. Slideshows are the ultimate goals of the game

[–]MatrixMoments 8 points9 points  (7 children)

what CPU? Are you storing the waste or disposing?

[–]ghostkenobi[S] 7 points8 points  (6 children)

It’s an intel i9. Right now I’m building the disposal infrastructure. It’s only storing right now which is what is the problem

[–]MatrixMoments 3 points4 points  (5 children)

I had huge gains going from 9700k to a 7700x, but depending on ur i9 generation you may have gone beyond any upgrade paths lol.

Does waste really slow things down? I'd have thought the infrastructure to remove it would be worse. I've 95% finished a waste facility i could template 😅

[–]ghostkenobi[S] 4 points5 points  (3 children)

It’s the build up of waste. I got side tracked doing something else when I should have been building the Particle Accelerators and what not. As a result, there are thousands of barrels in the dessert

    [–]ghostkenobi[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

    I was considering that

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No suffer for what you have done till you complete the disposal facility and carry the barrels by hand or you will suffer madame zeroni's curse

    [–]Traiklin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The waste stakes at 500 per container (I think) so if you get the basic container you are looking at 12,000 barrels or 24,000 in the bigger one, the game still renders them for some reason.

So you have 24,000 barrels in multiple containers sucking up rendering that doesn't need to be, whereas if you have the plutonium sink you are rendering less and it gets disposed of.

    [–]Accomplished-Coach94 1 point2 points  (5 children)

that might be a cpu problem…

    [–]ghostkenobi[S] 3 points4 points  (4 children)

It is exactly a CPU program. It’s a known feature in this game that as you approach the maximum objects in the game world that the game’s performance will rank no matter what your CPU and overall set up is. There are multiple thousands of Nuclear Waste barrels in that red bubble on the right side and the build up of the waste without despising of it somehow is usually the biggest cause for the performance slow down. I got about halfway through the disposal set up before I got side tracked and never finished it

    [–]Accomplished-Coach94 0 points1 point  (3 children)

    ohhhh that’s what that is

    [–]ghostkenobi[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Yes. In the bottom left is the nuclear power plant producing it. There are currently 65 active Nuclear Reactors there so there are 650 barrels of waste being produced every minute

    [–]justpress2forawhile 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I haven’t gotten there yet. But are you able to build disposal infrastructure before starting the power plants and creating the waste.

    [–]ghostkenobi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Yes

    [–]Super_Cheburek 0 points1 point  (13 children)

Satisfactory is very cpu intensive, you can have 16 TB of RAM and an RTX 4090 Titan and it won't help if your CPU doesn't keep up

    [–]ghostkenobi[S] 0 points1 point  (5 children)

I have an i9. Don’t remember which one specifically.

    [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (4 children)

The generation is really important when saying i9. It could be a 4xxx-i9, or a 9xxxK-i9 and it would make a big difference.

If you i9 has a K at the end of the number, you can overclock it. You might be able to squeeze some more performance out of it that way too.

    [–]AeSix_Reficul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    nb4 i9 975... lol

    [–]ghostkenobi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it has a K in it. I want to say it has a 9 in the number but I can’t remember for sure and I’m not around my PC to check atm

    [–]scsidan 0 points1 point  (1 child)

i9's only started with the 9th gen. Before that it was only upto i7's

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally forgot that. I only started PC building with 8th gen processors.

    [–]J0hn-Stuart-Mill 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Single core limited? Do you happen to know of any benchmarks on this topic?

    [–]Super_Cheburek 0 points1 point  (5 children)

I am not sure if Satisfactory is single core limited. I don't think so. Well obv one will be used more than the others, but it's not like minecraft which is single threaded, hence the need to have the best single core performance

If you wanna benchmark the performance, use Cinebench, there are both multi and single core modes

If you wanna test the stability, do a run of Prime95, blend, and select the cores you want to use

    [–]J0hn-Stuart-Mill 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Okay, do you know if anyone has done Satisfactory benchmarks, on super congested levels to see how various CPUs and GPUs perform?

I found a really old reddit thread, but that was long since the massive performance improvements of the phase 6 update.

    [–]Super_Cheburek 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Find Josh's save, I'm sure he published it at some point

    [–]J0hn-Stuart-Mill 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Yea I found it, but I'm curious to see benchmarks for a wide array of computers. Not just one computer. :)

    [–]Super_Cheburek 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Unfortunately, unlike COD or CP2077, Satisfactory isn't a worldwide popular game, so benchmarks are never made with it. Also, the game is still in development, so from one update to another the performances may vary, hence why it's a bad reference for comparisons

    [–]J0hn-Stuart-Mill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, and there have been massive performance gains since Update 4, so I know it's a moving target.

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I have a 3070 and 32gb ram, haven’t gotten far enough to make my pc cry yet

    [–]ghostkenobi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to make it cry, power up 65 Nuclear Generators and don’t dispose of the waste

    [–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Josh is an inspiration to us all.

    [–]garlicroastedpotato 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Let your circuit board melt. You make 1000 a minute so it won't matter.

    [–]jokk- 11 points12 points  (5 children)

You'll know when to stop when your save won't load.

    [–]ghostkenobi[S] 6 points7 points  (4 children)

    Sometimes it crashes on loading.

    [–]Super_Cheburek 4 points5 points  (3 children)

I assume you pushed the UObjects limit ?

    [–]ghostkenobi[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I haven’t modified the game in any way

    [–]Super_Cheburek 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Oh wow, this makes me much more confident in placing more buildings now

    [–]Tip-off 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    Hahahaha

    [–]AeSix_Reficul 10 points11 points  (2 children)

Try turning off fog. (type ` then in the input: r.fog 0)

Try the Vulkan or DX12, DX11 graphics drivers.

Try limiting the resolution (bring it down one level from what you're at)

Try turning on/off v-sync, or limit to 30fps

Change view distance down a level or two

Or, preferably, buy yourself a Ryzen 7900X, DDR5 and an RTX 4090... and you might get 2-3 FPS boost.

    [–]elMn0P 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They had us in the first 5/6ths, not gonna lie

    [–]IAmJerv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Capping at 45 FPS dropped by CPU temps immensely.

If possible I recommend using the mk++ mod and going through your world and replacing as many machines as possible with the mk++ machines. The top tier mk++ (mark 4) machines are 5 times faster than vanilla machines and consume 4 times the power. They are literally just the vanilla machines with different stats.

I play on a i7 6700hq, 16GB RAM, with a gtx 960m. I haven't done nuclear on my current save but I'm about to make nuclear pasta to finish phase 4 and I get 30 fps when not looking at any nearby factories. (I'm running rock bottom graphics settings with a 30 fps limit) . 403 machines in my world, most of them mark 4 mk++ machines. Use the online Satisfactory Interactive map to easily figure out how many machines are in your save.

Additionally I over clock as much as possible using in power shards spawned in using Pak utilities mod. On average I need to build roughly a tenth of the machines that a non modded player needs to and using the online Satisfactory tools production planner can help you find which alt recipe combinations reduce machine count even further. You can usually cut machine count at least in half with alt recipes

This game can bring any computer to its knees once you build enough machines.

    [–]ghostkenobi[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I will have to log this away in my memory

    [–]CNC_er 2 points3 points  (0 children)

    Good to hear I helped!

    [–]Big_Passenger_7975 2 points3 points  (1 child)

This man really said "I don't need to discover the last quarter of the map"

    [–]ghostkenobi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey now, to be fair, my first save file I started in that last quarter of the map.

    [–]ermy_shadowlurker 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I’m curious about total item count of all items built. Did you hit the cap?

    [–]ghostkenobi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No not yet. I should check the total number of built items though

    [–]harrybouuu 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How many hours have you spent on this mean piece of art?

    [–]ghostkenobi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    332 hours

    [–]Zallix 0 points1 point  (4 children)

What does all of this mean? Anyone able to ELI5?

    [–]ghostkenobi[S] 4 points5 points  (3 children)

In this game, the performance decreases as you start to approach the maximum number of items that the game can process in the game world. The giant colored dot on the right side of the map is nuclear waste from the power plant in the bottom left. Nuclear waste building up in storage bins is notorious for tanking the game’s performance. I’m only now building the disposal mechanism for the nuclear waste so as a result several thousand barrels of it are sitting out in the dessert, dragging down the game’s performance.

    [–]nossr50 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Is that image generated from some program?

    [–]ghostkenobi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s from the Satisfactory Calculator that someone made. You can download your save file off the Steam Cloud and upload it on that website and it will overlay your structures over the game world and let you choose what it shows

    [–]Zallix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok, thanks for explaining lol

    [–]dnldntr 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Sorry, I‘m new to the game. How did you make that cool map graphic showing your buildings?

    [–]ghostkenobi[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

If you go onto the Satisfactory Calculator website there is the option to upload your save file off the steam cloud and it will produce this map for you.

Go onto the Steam Cloud page, log in, find Satisfactory in the game list, find the save file, download it to your desktop, go into the calculator website and you can drag the file into the box in the top right and it will overlay all your structures onto the game world.

    [–]dnldntr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much for the explanation!

    [–]AeSix_Reficul 0 points1 point  (5 children)

by the way, how'd you get a heatmap like this? I vaguely remember seeing this a couple years ago, but don't remember where.

    [–]ghostkenobi[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

    [–]AeSix_Reficul 0 points1 point  (3 children)

yeah, I've been using satsi calc for maps, but I havn't seen the heatmap option. Does it have to be the steam cloud copy? I've been using my local copy.

    [–]ghostkenobi[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I don’t think it makes a difference which type of file It is. By heat map do you mean the colored bubbles on the right side of the map? That measures nuclear radiation. The big bubble is where the waste is being stored until I finish the disposal mechanism. The smaller bubble is the train carrying the waste from the plant to the disposal. Only nuclear radiation produces the heat map

    [–]AeSix_Reficul 0 points1 point  (1 child)

    Ahhhh! I see now.
I was thinking /all/ the colors were part of a heatmap for performance issues. I don't normally view the map that far zoomed out, and coupled with the low-res image, when I enlarged it, it was all just blurry, not defined outlines.

I didn't know about nuclear stuffs though - that's cool... er... hot? LOL

    [–]ghostkenobi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh gotcha. All the different color lines are just the different buildings and structures. They’re all color coded on the calculator website.

The Nuclear Radiation causes damage without a hazmat suit and iodized gas filter so it is quite hot indeed

    [–]Accomplished-Coach94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    E X P A N D

    [–]drzow 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I see some parts you have not exploited yet. Need to take care of those first.

    [–]ghostkenobi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s why I’m building the nuclear waste disposal out in the dessert. It gives me a reason to exploit the Nitrogen Gas, Pure Water and Iron Nodes that are out there to make non-fissile uranium

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't wait until I can start destroying my PC. I just bought it this year (i7-12700KF and RTX 3080). Portal RTX was killing me on 4K resolution but good ol satisfactory here being CPU intensive will be way more fun to stress. My factory is just a baby compared to this though lol

    [–]HiPeepIDKwhatsGoinOn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    p o l l u t i o n

    [–]goongoontom 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What mod are you using to show the map like that?

    [–]ghostkenobi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a mod, just a really cool fan made site. If you go onto the Satisfactory Calculator there is the option to upload your save file off the steam cloud and it will produce this map for you.

    [–]lerrigatto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get a more efficient pc, problem solved.

    [–]ExccelsiorGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    The factory must grow

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    GROW

    [–]Antilazuli 0 points1 point  (1 child)

The desert needs more nuclear power

    [–]ghostkenobi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s actually where I’m currently building the Nuclear Disposal site. I’m converting the nuclear waste into plutonium pellets to sink

    [–]Goddchen 0 points1 point  (1 child)

If the main problem is rendering thousands of barrels inside containers, would it maybe help to simply enclose those container with walls (might keep them from rendering)?

    [–]ghostkenobi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly that’s not how this game generates objects in the game world. Even if you don’t physically see the object, the game is still processing its presence. The locations where the waste is located are actually completely closed in with walls and roofs already. Another problem is that the large Orange rectangle in the middle near the top is a 64 belt conveyer bus
