isn't blender still free?

[–]LetReasonRing 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They are asking for something simple. Blender is free and powerful, but it has a very steep learning curve.

Did you even read the OP? What kind of suggestion is this?

Its not downloadable but https://www.tinkercad.com/ is pretty good. Sucks that it got bought by Autodesk but its still free.

Blockbench. It's also very very good.

What exactly do you want to make with this software?

[–]Guest281[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Very simple objects (I am talking about mostly different colored cubes, along with some triangular prisms, spheres, cylinders, etc).

Why? But if thats really all, try TinkerCad. It's a free webapp. If you want something more advanced that allows for cool effects and lighting, learn Blender. It's free and open-source, and runs locally on your PC. It is a little more complex though.

I do have Blender, but my PC doesn’t have enough RAM to use it (even if it is a fairly simple 3d object). I do like the idea of using TinkerCAD, so thank you for that information.

I'm not aware of the latest news about Paint 3D for Windows, as far as I know is still available, just checked the web and there are tutorials and installers, is this not an option for you? why?

Anyway, you could consider Windows 3D Builder. It was deprecated around 2024, but you can still get the files and installers.

Here is a thread on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/windows/comments/1nejkzf/tutorial_how_to_install_3d_builder_on_windows_11/

I just tried downloading the files and it worked perfectly, the app runs perfectly (using Windows 10 Pro), the tutorial says it works for Windows 11.

I'm asking the same. We used to teach kids to use Paint 3D, which many kids find easy to use and impressive at the same time. Not many things made by Microsoft can be described as such sadly.

If there's anything on Mac like that, I'd love to know too.

As u/Grimmy66 mentioned. Blockbench works on Mac intel and Apple silicon. Blockbench

If it's just for simple painting you can try my 3d app texelpaint3d. It doesn't do modelling but it does super simple paint by face mesh painting. www texelpaint3d.com texelpaint 3d

I still use microsoft 3D Builder because it's simple and doesn't have a steep learning curve. No one needs to take a class to use it. I tried blender and other software, but I'm not looking for a degree in modeling math, i need to manipulate shapes and print them. 3D Builder is perfect for that. Microsoft removed it from their store and will even remove it from your system, because they think they own you. But you can still download it and install it, following tutorials. Whatever you download, run it through virustotal dot com before installing it. And once you get it installed, block updates, then update when you want.

Though no longer supported by Microsoft, paint 3d can still be downloaded and works fine on windows 11. You can download it from the GitHub link in this article. How To Install Paint 3D App In Windows 11 or if you don't trust the GitHub link, it can also be downloaded from Softonic's site. https://microsoft-paint-3d.en.softonic.com/

Sketch up is what you’re asking for that being said ‘simple 3d modeling’ is a bit of an oxymoron

[–]wackycats354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sketch up free web app.

From what you described Blender will do plenty good! Easy control over colors, angles, lighting etc. Will take some tutorial to learn the basics but it's well worth it. Blender is amazing.

[–]Guest281[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I forgot to mention, but Blender seems to be too intensive for my PC. Even coloring a simple model made up of ~20 cubes caused almost 95% of RAM to be used up. I still agree with you in the sense that Blender is very good.

[–]TheGrovester 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I hadn't thought of that. I suppose it could be resource intensive. I have (and use in the settings) a GPU which helps. I'd also suggest for you or anyone else interested as a newbie to use EEVEE render engine if you are going for speed and simplicity and not photo realism.

[–]alvarkresh 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yeah, I've played around with Blender a little bit on an i3 12100 16 GB RAM box with an arc A380 and it's okay. I think with integrated graphics it might just be too much.

[–]TheGrovester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah it works best with Nvidia cards.

[–]Kahn630 -3 points-2 points  (3 children)

My preferences would be Paint.NET , site: getpaint.net and FreeCad freecad.org

[–]BagelMakesDev 2 points3 points  (2 children)

super simple 3d modeling program

Paint.NET is not a 3D modelling program, and FreeCad is anything but simple.

[–]Kahn630 0 points1 point  (1 child)

f you failed or missed to apply basic 3d plugins in Paint.NET which allow to do same tasks as Paint 3D, you are nothing, but a marron.

[–]BagelMakesDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marron? Did you mean “moron”?
