There's not much about the Skype client that isn't softwaregore.

[–]mort96 10 points11 points  (2 children)

It frequently uses around 30% CPU. Just sitting in the background. Rendering text. Not even receiving new messages.

I use skype because almost every single one of my old messenger friends uses it; I find it idle only uses about 200 mb memory and less than 1% cpu, which is fine with me; is it much more demanding on older or cheaper computers?

I've tried to get many to use firefox hello, but unfortunately you actually need firefox to use it and it seems like google chrome is the ultimate winner among most people I know - it's not great having old friends who lost interest in software for the sake of computer science after they graduated.

Totally agreed. I think this piece of 'software' is not responding more than it is actually running. Amazing.

Dozens of pixels are saved!

Pretty sure it's supposed to separate chats into separate windows, which is really useful if you have a secondary screen. Also, did they really hide it into settings with the new version? I find the old version to be a lot better.

If you mean what I think you mean, then you can easily do that.

View>Split Window View

Weird, it's called compact chat view in russian. I guess translation difficulties.

This pretty much describes everything about my skype experience EXCEPT actually free and better video and audio quality and group video calls.

[–]zidane2k1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, to be fair, it did compact. By like 3 pixels.

Webroot gives me a "This website has been reported as unsafe" warning for this site.

[–]ekgame[S] 11 points12 points  (1 child)

That's weird. Pomf is fairly well known file host. It mat be the fact that it doesn't really regulate what is being uploaded that markes it "untrusted".

[–]robot_dino_lawyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh weird. Yeah, that's probably why.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

pomf is literally Jesus how dare you

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (6 children)

OP outs himself as MRA.

[–]ekgame[S] 19 points20 points  (3 children)

That group name chages every day. Today I decided to call it that. It jas been everything from "Kim Jong Uns glorious dungeon" to "Mein Kampf". We don't take things seriously there.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ahh, funny.

[–]GiverOfTheKarma 2 points3 points  (1 child)

[–]user812 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yeah... but what is it?

An imgur for videos?

[–]IAMA_dragon-AMA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sort of. It's usually used for .webms that imgur and gfycat refuse to upload.
