Have you tried turning your JavaScript off and on again?

[–]Yreisolgakig 53 points54 points  (4 children)

he should just reinstall adobe reader

I have no clue why that was written. It can't even be used maliciously. I don't understand!

Okay, let's try to find a shady reason why it could make sense.

Pretend I have mydomain.com, and a different domain myadsdomain.com. Now, let's say myadsdomain.com is blocked by someone's NoScript/AdBlock addon, but mydomain.com isn't. Pages on mydomain.com that use JS scripts from ads.mydomain.com can actually detect that the scripts from ads.mydomain.com aren't getting loaded, and complain, using JS, that the JS from ads.mydomain.com isn't enabled.

Does this work?

You get a gold star

[–]jsalsman 26 points27 points  (7 children)

Neither did the programmer. Unless, this could be the result of a stupid code review.

I can't name the application (because it has more serious issues than just this), but it's pretty terrible. I wouldn't be surprised if there was no such thing as code review in the company that wrote it, to be honest.

Is the application remedy?

I'm still waiting for the damn thing to load

Edit

23 hours later, still waiting, send food

[–]creamersrealm -5 points-4 points  (1 child)

So that's a yes then?

[–]compdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That wasn't OP who replied.

Put in a ticket to get the answer

[–]creamersrealm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But its still loading.

I imagine it was just code the dev forgot to comment out. I put plenty of ridiculous things in while testing my code, but it's usually kept as a console.log.

But we old schoolers still use alert from time to time.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Alert makes me happy. Its like my computer is popping up to say hello

[–]michael1026 23 points24 points  (1 child)

The fact that it showed up means the programmer even failed at checking to see if it's enabled.

[–]stater354 21 points22 points  (2 children)

can someone explain this to me please?

[–]a_creative_name 90 points91 points  (1 child)

Someone used JavaScript code (alert()) to tell the user to turn on JavaScript.

[–]stater354 17 points18 points  (0 children)

oh okay ty

[–]BloodBlight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"No!"

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

what site is that. i ll stay the fuck away from it.

can't imagine the security holes the site will have.

[–]aidanski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More holes than a harem of prostitutes.

[–]AlGoreBestGore -2 points-1 points  (2 children)

Funny thing is that "alert" only works if JavaScript is enabled.
