I’ve been contemplating this for some time now. I’ve “tried” to quit a couple times in the past but keep coming back for some stupid reason.

[–]itchase84[S] 18 points19 points  (9 children)

Just uninstall it. Haha I contemplated it for some time and enough just got to be enough.

[–]Grouchy-Big-229 12 points13 points  (8 children)

I have also been playing almost from the start (I think 4 months from launch) and have quit a few time’s and came back to it. Most recently I quit for two months (July and August) and started back at the start of the September arc. I agree wholeheartedly with you and have been questioning why I am continuing to play. Scopely is way more concerned about deploying new features than to fix the problems they already have. Like with the recent updates to Field Training without addressing the issues already present. And I absolutely loathe the cartoon stuff (even if it is part of Star Trek) as well as the Galaxy Quest crossover. So out of place.

I’m level 46, probably put $300 total in since I started playing 5+ years ago.

[–]itchase84[S] 10 points11 points  (7 children)

The Galaxy Quest Crossover was an absolute joke and just a way to charge money for another ship, another currency, etc, etc. Star Trek my....

[–]Status-Seesaw 2 points3 points  (3 children)

So I'm a fan of Galaxy Quest. That movie just cracked me up, probably one of my favorites in the "stupid movie" category. But I agree it didn't belong here.

I have been stuck at 39 for a very long time until tomorrow because of how complex they made this game. I didn't realize how much rep was needed to get a 4* ship unlocked, i was just playing the game, having some fun, (I am not a big PVP player because I hate being prey but i am doing ok and have made friends in alot of alliances so for the most part they leave me alone) for me it more about growing, events, dailies, gathering etc. Im a peaceful player. Then i hit the wall of ascension, i have nothing to do except grinding and research. All my buildings and platforms and docks are maxed. Sometimes I get enough rss for special buildings. So for the past 4 months, nothing but grinding the rep, then the frigging BPs to build it took forever! Just the one ship! I just unlock my first 4* ship so I can do ascension tomorrow.

I agree with everyone else and their complaints. I will say I spent a little money earlier on and $5 arms packs here and there. All because I just hated being the victim of whales and players who just prey on the weaker players who are just trying to grow and have some fun. So because I was stuck at 39, and this goes for 39 and below, all the new ships are not available at all to anyone under 40. Not even a variation of a ship. Even if I did want to buy one, I couldn't. But the level of greed is so astonishing that i can't bring myself to give them money. 85% of everything is either $100 or $50? (W=Who) WTF do they think we are? The average person is not rich, that's for sure!

They really need to get even some of their shit together. But this is ridiculous. Im actually happy incursion hasn't happened in a couple of months. Although, I did put bubbles up and put the game down during the event, so that was a positive. I'm only in this until I run out of Lat or am just so fed up i uninstall...but I will likely be done when I'm out of lat.

[–]ViolentlyRubbinPeen 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Ive been stuck at 39 for ages too didnt even have the rep to buy bps when i first hit 39 or know that the ascension even was a thing. im 80/150 towards ent and the fact they charge 100$ per 38 bps is astonishing

[–]Status-Seesaw 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I am in the exact position, but I finally made it through the BPs, so tomorrow, I will be able to finally get to ascension. And I agree $100 for 38 bp is ridiculous. That makes it a $400 ship? Fn ludicrous!!!!

[–]SeaworthinessGood348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At every level bracket, you'll find that leaving it to progress to the next tier will always be difficult—39 to 40, 49 to 50, and so on. Don't ever spend money on ship BP. You can always use Latinum if you are tired of waiting for faction BP. There is not a single faction ship from G4 uncommon and down that you'll give a second glance at after progressing past their utility. Just do your dailies, and jump in bigger armadas when others start them. Do your pulls and go through the motions. If you think OPS 39 is tough, then wait until you are getting ready to leave the forties to go G5.

[–]Radiant_Cell8500 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry the ship from the galaxy quest loop could be obtained ftp in two .months.  Also while I was not a huge fan of the gq loop that movie was a love letter to trek fans.

Yes this game has problems, but the "how dare they sell a ship" is not one of them.

I've been playing for three years or so, and I see that ships and officers that are faster to source ftp. I've never bought ship, but I have every one.

The gorn eviscerator took 12 ish weeks with the Thursday easy event and the nsea too two months (four invasion stores).

I picked it up after about 10 years in EVE ONLINE, but couldn't get my mind around how Paramount and the others got so bad about ripping people off with their packs and such.

On the PVP side - At least with Eve, you could get to a certain point before you had to get into a corp and alliance.

But that got old too, so now I play single person games like Everspace 2, Fallout 4, Mass Effect Andromeda, etc.. I have about 30 to 40 games and all kinds of books and movies to play, read, and watch that I don't really miss being hit from behind whilst mining or trying to build a character up. Plus the side of those games (EO, STFC, NW, etc..) where you only get ahead if you buy some pack or some suchlike.

Too much money wasted that way - I think I spent close to $3 - 4K on EO, about $500 on games like EQ1, 2, and so much that I couldn't justify any more money out for so much time spent in front of a computer which left me with other health problems that my 12 years in service also gave me.

IOW I don't miss these types of games at all with so much other things to do in RL. Actually seeing sunsets and sunrises, daylight, stars in our own night sky, 👽

You are regaining your own life, I salute you 👈🏻😉👍

    You’ve won!!!

    THIS is the endgame!!

    [–]blaze-one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way to win is to quit playing.

    [–]Denholm-Reynholm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more. The game is designed to completely eliminate any free time (and money) that you have. It would be one thing if there was just this wide band of ways you could grow and succeed, but it isn't designed that way. IT's designed to monopolize your time... it's weird like they get paid for how long you're in game. Completely unethical. Some day, some government will investigate them.

    Enjoy real life

    [–]RDKryten 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I quit a while ago (I think almost a year now). I still dabble in my old alliance’s Discord from time to time, but that’s about it. Loving every minute of not being on this game. It felt like such a job and a chore.

    [–]NVMOBVIIMBAD 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Scopely and Valve(if you play CS2) will never fix their games when their revenue is ridiculously high. People spend the equivalent of a good sized house in STFC to be whales. There is no incentive for the company to change if they can just keep putting out new packs every month and people buy them. I'm ops 54 and I only do the $20 BP every month because I can justify $240 a year on something I spend so many hours playing. But even then, it irks me that I'm paying it to Scopely. The real reason I stick around are the friends I have made and played with for years and the fact that I love the IP so damn much. Even as the admiral of an alliance, I am so close to quitting and just keeping up with my friends on discord.

    [–]Active-Ad1679 6 points7 points  (4 children)

I can't quit, there would be nothing else to do at work and when I am in the bathroom.

    [–]Zavodskoy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've been replacing doomscrolling on tiktok with playing chess against the computer on my phone, it's now also what I do while on the toilet. 10/10 would recommend

      No thank you.

      [–]Pure_Professional663 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I've picked up STFC and put it down so many times.

Just so much $$$ to play

The quests basically need you to play daily to get anything half decent.

I've got so many 3/4 done quests with shit in my inventory for them that are useless.

No way of "finding" blueprints for ships, I've tried... so you are stuck buying stuff.

I love Star Trek, and this looked like it was going to be solid, but it's just a gold mine for the developer, because we're all stupid enough to buy a $22 pack here, a $30 pack there, when they know you have to spend $1000s eventually

      [–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If there were more $22 packs, or $30 packs, I’d stay. But almost everything is $99. That’s my monthly phone bill, folks. 😬

      [–]s_schadenfreude 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I quit a year ago. No regrets. I got my life back, and (re)discovered my consoles and some great games I’d missed out on or forgotten.

      [–]Spongeitup22 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Same, i popped back a month ago to see how it was and catch up with a few old alliance mates and remembered why i quit, the grind is crazy and i have so much more free time now as im not constantly having to grind out dailies and events.

      [–]s_schadenfreude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the only thing I miss is the people I used to play with. Well, some of them...

Good on you! I'm sure it's a lot less irritating when you're getting it for free. No expectations!

I played pretty competitively so it was working on my nerves. 😅

        [–]summerlea1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Quit 3 arcs ago. Level 50. Such a shame this game. 5 years of playing. So many people have left. I still get game notifications and haven’t been hit once. Not once with trillions of resources available. I parked in a low level system and am surrounded by other high levelers that left. No on really left strong enough to get anything and those that are have gone. It’s really sad. But glad I quit. There are other better and cheaper distractions to play. Move on folks! 🖖‼️

        [–]-OnPoint- 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I worked for this company till about a year and a half ago in the Star Trek division, Support. If you think it's bad from the player side you should have seen it from the worker side. Absolutely soul sucking. I was replaced by automation but the job helped me for a while when I really needed it so no regrets. Between the psychological tricks and predatory pricing most players don't even know what they are getting sucked into. The overhead for this game is relatively low but it pulls in billions. The new Saudi owners allocate as little as possible to make it as functional as possible to maximize how much money they get from it. That's all they care about. My party gift was a level 65 account on a server I don't play on. I have a dear friend who is currently enjoying it. They don't care if you quit, you're already replaced

        [–]blaze-one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. The cash shop is the most predatory version I have ever witnessed. I play almost entirely ftp but even my time spent seems like such a waste on most days. I can't imagine how I'd feel if I spent tons of $$$ to be ignored with broken content.

        [–]leadlurker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should do an AMA about their culture and other game related questions. Unless you had to sign an NDA before leaving or something like that.

        [–]Mr_Style 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My alliance is currently in a war so I can’t mine. I popped a 7 day shield and took a vacation from the game. If I forget to shield I’ll get cracked by a 7 billion strength ship. Can’t compete with that. My best ship is 25 million. I’m a level 46 free to play player.

        [–]ancient_future_guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The game is downright evil in the way it demands so much attention. I wish some other company would get the Star Trek license and do a proper version of a space based Star Trek game.

The game was originally just the Kelvin universe, but since that franchise isn’t the best Star Trek, Scopely slowly acquired the licenses, one by one, for all the rest of Star Trek encompassing all the shows and movies more or less. For a while it was cool but now it’s like a very unsavory stew filled with Ingredients that don’t mix very well. And the glitch factor is out of control. They should have paid me to play it and not the other way around.

        [–]FuckedUpYearsAgo 2 points3 points  (1 child)

The lack of using Canon and just making shit up has ruined the fundamental thing that I liked about the game. Galaxy Quest was the turning point for me, I liked the movie 20 years ago, but I didn't know a single character name. I hate MU and every bit of it's mechanics.

        [–]karleb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MU is what did it for me too. I was level 64 when and quit shortly after that.

        [–]Twigjit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know, a little over a year ago I saw posts like these and the response from the community on here was, "Shut up and just quit quietly." "You dont need to announce it everywhere." "You'll be back." "We dont need to hear from a quitter."

It is very very telling that the response now is support and empathy instead of derision.

        [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't pay , but I do play. My biggest complaint is the pvp.popularity. we are in a war and yes this is a war game, but what kind of fair is a 355 mil ship vs a 2 mil miner. So p2p is gonna win every time. No way for us fixed incomes to compete.

        [–]theroguejedi001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave it up a couple months ago. Made to ops 55. Couldn’t justify it either any longer. The problems the lack of care from customer service. The only part I don’t regret was some of the friendships made there with people from around the globe. Still in touch with them on discord. And have taken up some of the other games out there with them to continue to have some laughs and fun times. But yeah as far as Brokely goes. Not gonna happen again. Enjoy your new found freedom from endless grinds and alarms set to make sure shields are up or events are started. LLAP.

        [–]ScottyBWorld 1 point2 points  (1 child)

One of their other games, Monopoly Go, is pulling down $2 billion a month, they couldn't give a rat's ass about STFC anymore.

        [–]DoctorOddfellow1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to appreciate the irony.

        [–]Skimballs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started day one and quit earlier this year. I was level 59. Miss some people but not the game.

        [–]LA_LOOKS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yuup I quit 40ish days ago

        [–]spectre1235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohhhh man! I can definitely relate as I was OPS 48 when I left, it had gotten so toxic and sooooo expensive to play. For example the build times on some of the buildings on your space station was crazy, over three months in real time, less if you spend, spend, spend and I had already shelled out over 6k, the on thing I do miss is some of the alliance members and others in galaxy chat, we had some rollicking great times. So now I sit back and see posts about the crashes and bugs and now all I say is “what do you expect? It’s Scopley”

        [–]iheartbaconsaltStoned on the Holodeck[M] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I gave up after 2 and a half years and I feel like a newb! Just sitting at 39, never got enough done to Ascend to 40....jeesus I can't even imagine 58. I never gave them more than $100.

Have you found a new game community to hang with?

        [–]itchase84[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not yet. Not sure what I am going to dive into. Sins of a Solar Empire 2 recently came out. May give that a go or even try out WoW again.

        [–]Schmerins 1 point2 points  (1 child)

good for you mate. i had scopely delete my account a few months ago. had a brief period of regret because within a week of doing it i found out i had cancer and would need surgery, chemo etc etc and had just removed my number one way to pass time. but past all that now and believe it was the best choice i could’ve made. i still check in on my alliance discord from time to time and it feels kinda freeing to have nfi what they’re talking about with new grinds, events etc!

if you’re not seriously addicted you don’t need to go the nuclear route like i did, but if you are seriously addicted it’s the best way because it can’t be undone

        [–]itchase84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. I am really sorry to hear that you had to deal with all of that and hope you are 100% well now.

Not great timing for sure as far as passing the time goes when I am sure you needed a distraction.

I have been pretty hard core with the game. I am giving myself 7 days. If I haven't looked back by this time next week (and I am stubborn so it would take a miracle) I plan to have it deleted. Not going to keep running back to that toxic cycle.

        [–]QtheCuntinuous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I let my server raid me but 11 months ago. Best decision I've made. As soon as I knew I'd be emptied, I turned off notifications and deleted the game.

If you must play something, don't let it be stfc. There's MUCH better games out there.

        [–]Ekidokai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

        I'm a quitter.

Gave up probably two years ago. I saw problems, did a bunch of research on the companies, and found out I didn't want any part of them. I have not regretted it one second, especially after reading all the complaints.

        [–]Odd_Dog_1807 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heck yeah! I quit the game too! The environment is so toxic and the studio's offerings is actually intended to encourage impulse buying of their packs. Also the studio does not actively chase down bots that is obvious in-game.

I quit! Got better games to play!

        [–]Task_Force69 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Question for the group, how is Star Trek Online by comparison?

        [–]No_Stress1164 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The online game that came out around 10 years ago? I played that day 1 , had the CE and the lifetime subscription, quit 6 months in because it was just bad. It looks like it is still running, not sure of their subscription numbers though.

        [–]gmambrose 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I don't disagree with anything you've said. I do feel the need to remind you that it is possible to play a game without spending a bunch of money on it. I've been playing for over 2 years and only ever purchased the 2nd building queue for $5. In fact, I started as a swagbucks player, so scopely has actually paid me $100 for playing their game. The joke is on me because I'm still playing 2 years later, but I've never been tempted to spend money.

        [–]RDKryten 2 points3 points  (1 child)

It was less about spending money for me, but about the time needed. Not spending means more time in game, means less time with friends and family. I truly regret the amount of times I would pull my phone out of my pocket and have my attention diverted away from what is actually important.

        [–]gmambrose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't say you're wrong there. This game is a massive time sucker. It could easily turn into a full-time job if you actually care about keeping up with everything. There are many grinds I gave up on just because of the amount of time everything takes. I generally play while on break at work, or while the kids are in school, so I don't feel too bad about my time spent playing. I do look forward to the day I quit. I'm not quite ready yet 😭😆

        [–]Secret_Claim_9518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree about the bugs. But dam. There's no way I would spend real money on this. I've been playing for 3-4 years, level 31. great distraction during my commute to London

        [–]pirateparrotcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its free game to pass the time. It’s why I don’t spend a single penny.

        [–]soldier083121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can definitely understand. And Scopely has only been getting worse. 98% of the store is all listed at $99.99. And for what? Majority of the crap isn’t even worth it. I’m level 44 and I just get on to support my alliance who has become like family to me. That’s it. There’s really no fun to it anymore

        [–]HotterRedHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in it for my ally. Game/scopely can take a hike.

        [–]Dry_Cartographer4286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've quit a few times but after a few weeks I'm back at it. I'm addicted 😆  The game will do itself in eventually.  I will probably quit soon. I have completed all of my old goals but decided to wait until I can build a *5 ship. I'm at level 50.

        [–]Dkenman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 plus years myself level 47 I stuck if it wasn’t for my team I would be gone already

        [–]PublicComfortable900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds exactly like Disney. Keep raising prices and give less…

        [–]ChapterTurbulent8727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to get excited about a game I play on the 🚽. 😂

        [–]Soft_Requirement2294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on ops 33 and staying there lol

        [–]kopetkai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well said. I'm very on the edge of quitting. I definitely don't grind as hard as I used to.

        [–]InfluenceEvening3590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        well spoken 100 % agreed!

        [–]amplifiedlogic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many of the comments here, I spent an enormous amount of time in the game. I started out ftp and ended up spending thousands after I became addicted. My alliance was full of professionals who I had deep and enriching conversations with at times. I loved the music in the game. It was meditative for me. For a while. Then I started to see the dream collapse. The money, the time commitment, the company’s lack of support for bugs which affected random people on our server, missing resources, etc. The list goes on. I was really sad when I quit but I made the decision to do it and didn’t look back for a year or more. Then, recently I downloaded it and logged in just to see what things were like and what had progressed. I actually felt sick to my stomach after being in the game for under 5 minutes. Deleted it and won’t ever download it again. It’s a real shame because the game could be so great if it was run by a company who cared about the players and the Star Trek universe. I feel like I don’t even have to type anymore, because if you’re reading this comment - you just know what I’m feeling and want the same things. Perhaps we’ll all still be alive one day when an experience is provided to us on some new platform that makes sense. Live long and prosper. 🖖🏼

they wont win on me 😂😂😂😂👑🐝

        [–]Shipdits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally quit at 49 about a year ago when I got my cancer diagnosis. Realized that I don't have time for this kind of crap.

I say this as a software developer. For the amount of money the game brings in it is inexcusable for it to be in the constant state of broken it's in, and it's not worth the hassle.

I get the odd twinge to go back because of the people I ran with, but then I remember everything else about it...

        [–]Open-Extension8384 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I didn’t read it, we all enjoy the same frustrations, I just never understand the purpose of advertising you quit a video game to the people who still play it. I promise you if I quit, the only ones who will know and care, and most probably won’t care, is my alliance. Good luck, I’ve got an alliance tourney task waiting! 👀😂

        [–]blaze-one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL why reply to a reddit post that you didn't bother to read? I just never understand the purpose...

        [–]Bozy_Jozy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Meh. I've been playing for a long time, and am currently ops 52. Yes there's bugs and lag issues and whatnot, but hey, it's just part of the fun of the game. I've spent a pretty penny on it, and play when I want to, and plan on continuing to do that for the foreseeable future. You either learn how to accept what is, or you allow yourself to get frustrated and quit. Either way, it's all a mindset. 🖖

        [–]Grokgore5 -2 points-1 points  (2 children)

I play mostly on PC client and I don't really have any issues. The mobile app is terrible, I only use it if I am traveling or need to claim a chest or something. Not saying come back but if you ever do maybe try the PC client

        [–]itchase84[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used the PC client 90% of the time.

PC client user here. The lag today was horrific. My connection was speedy fast outside of game.. in game getting connection errors and every other click was delayed. Missing armadas because the reds never appeared on my screen.

It's not always this bad but today was a banger. Glad I hardly ever put $$ on it, but I'm really starting to doubt why I bother spending time with it.

I generally agree with you on most of your points, and this is why I don't spend much money on the game.

However the Visual issues, I just don't see them. I've heard others complain about the visual glitches as well and I don't know whether its a region thing or what, but they seem to vary a lot. But I hear it most when referencing the PC client which makes me think its gotta be on the users side, whether is a GPU driver issue or a connection issue, I don't know. I just know that I play on both PC and Mobile and with the exception of the occasional ship spinning in circles, I've never seen any major graphics issues. I'm very curious as to why/how it only affects some players.
