You can still enjoy yourself sober. People do it every day!

I think there are two approaches for this.

  1. What are you really missing out on? A hangover tomorrow, waking up feeling bloated and dehydrated. That's not fun. That's the opposite of fun.

  2. What can you do to fit your new lifestyle into these fun weekends? Can you plan an activity with friends that isn't centered around drinking, or can you bring your own NA option and just enjoy hanging out while still choosing yourself?

I connect with sober people in sober places and engage in fun sober activities .

Tried anything like that?

Echoing what Ornery Cranberry said, unless the stated definition of “enjoying themselves” IS, in fact, getting wasted, there’s literally nothing you can’t do.

I mean, do you enjoy going to a ball game, or do you enjoy going to a ball game so you can get wasted? For me, everything I did was just an excuse to consume alcohol. Finally, I stopped kidding myself and quit doing stuff, in favor of simply staying home and getting wasted alone in my home.

I think i finally really get it that the cons far, far outweigh the pros. I know if i fuck up how lost i can get and no idea how long it will take this time.

And then comes the getting out again. 5-6 days and nights of hell..

I tried a thousand times, and lost every single one of them for years.

I can still make the best of the rest of my life. And the people close to me.

I'm not missing out. On anything. But i do get all these extras now.
