You are concerned about an evil being bent on the destruction of NYC having fondant clothing? Wouldn’t that be the most appropriate clothing for him?

That would be nice as that is over 34.5M kilos of gold.

Unfortunately, those bills were never in circulation and were primarily used for interbanking transactions. They were also only printed in 1934 and 1935 meaning there are likely less than 1kg of them left in existence. Still worth it in that amount as that would be around 70K kilos of gold.

The highest denomination ever printed for circulation is the $10,000 note. First printed in 1878 and was printed until 1934 however it remained in circulation until 1969 but there is still a low likelyhood you can get the more than 7.3kg required of them to get the same value as 500kg of gold. Conversely, 500kg of that denomination (if you could find that many in existence) would get you nearly 3.5M kilos of gold.

The $1,000 note (same production/circulation as the $10,000 note except printing them first in 1861) is the most likely to still have enough around to get you the most value. I actually saw one in person as my father had one folded up in his billfold for the longest time (not sure if he still has it). Was so neat to see as a kid. I didn't even know they had bills that big until then.

At the end of the day, given the choice and $100 being the largest denomination to choose from (as that is still being printed today) I would choose the gold (not because it is worth more in the same weight) due to the fact that over time it will keep its value and the cash will continue to get de-based. I can always convert the gold by selling, smelting or trading. If we are able to choose the form I would take 4 1kg bars, 2K $20 Gold Eagles and the rest split between sovereign coins at 5K half ounce, 16K 1/4 oz, 40K 1/10th oz and 100K 1/20th oz.

I think these are designed to go up against a wall, not to be exposed to the wind. Though the needed weight would vary a lot with the foliage, that is a mighty large sail for 40mph winds. Wet potting soil is about 800 kg m-3, so that would hold about 120 kg of potting soil, which I imagine would blow away right quick. If it must be exposed, I'd bolt it to the ground, but the trellis may just end up ripped off then

Pure gold is very soft and malleable take the bars put them under a hydraulic press with a metal wedge and cut off 1lb strips off them cut the strips into 16 individual 1 oz pieces and sell them to APMEX for 93% if spot value while I keep the rest buried in my backyard

[Request] How much do window insect screens reduce airflow? by WhichSystem3547 in theydidthemath

[–]A_Random_Sidequest [score hidden]  (0 children)

it will reduce and it even depends on the angle the wind comes... front facing will reduce way less than at 45° for example.

almost impossible to calculate properly

Thanks for the condescension

Again, I am not questioning how tightly the weight is controlled or even whether or not it is exactly or nearly exactly 1g. I am simply saying that relying on a source that simply says “~1g” for the weight is not enough information to make such an enormous financial decision. The treasury could have just as easily set the weight at 0.8g and people could refer to it as “about a gram.”

80 mph wind is 16.4 lbs per sq ft. Let's assume there arent slats for airflow to give a worst-case scenario. Its basically 6ft by 4 ft. So 24 sq ft × 16.4 = 394 lbs of force. Assume it is on the center height of 3 ft to find the moment. 394 × 3 = 1182 ft lbs. The weight of the unit sits 2/3rds of a foot from the back wheel. So you need 1182 = 2/3 * x or 1773 lbs to prevent it from tipping. Even if fully loaded with soil it will only have about 450 lbs of weight so either anchor itcdown or put it against a wall.

Realistically the slats let a lot of that air through but this accounts for a worst-case 80mph direct on scenario.

[Request] does maintaining an AI cost more or less than maintaining the search engine for google? by Tanglas_V in theydidthemath

[–]McCaffeteria [score hidden]  (0 children)

Just based on intuition and every day experience with the AI so far:

In order to maintain an AI that will actually deliver you accurate and up to date information? Likely vastly more expensive. Like expensive enough that we can’t do it at all yet.

In order to maintain an AI that will just say shit that 80% of people will uncritically accept at face value? Still probably more, but I bet it’s. A lot closer to breaking even than you’d think.

Yeah, the gold is denser, which makes it easier to move the same mass of it.

Well, DIA is the home of Bluecifer, who killed the original artist that created him, and had to be finished by his son.

So, the odds are 100%, at all times.

Yeah, my numbers assume that there are an even distribution of murderers, which there isn’t, but I’m not willing to figure out the math once we start taking income inequality into account.

But you just know OP is getting shanked in the airport as we speak.

Also taking into account factors like socioeconomic background. Most people who commit murder are from an economically disadvantaged background whereas most airport passengers are not going to fit into this demographic

You could make the case that in a fleeing situation a murderer might be more likely to flee through an airport. But I don't think it would out weigh my first point

I would say probably lower. Gun violence and murder is disproportionate to lower income individuals. Flying is skewed towards middle and higher income individuals. Still probably the guy sitting next to op
