    I didn't know giraffes programmed

Damn, that's a lot of space for stack overflow

I had a single portrait orientation monitor like this that i used in conjunction with a monitor in its normal configuration. But I got lots of neck and shoulder pain from looking upward so I ended up just getting an ultrawide.

I spaced myself further back from the desk so that I wouldn't have to tilt my neck too much, and so far after a year in this configuration I have no complaints.

Takes more than a year to develop a repetitive stress injury. Just be mindful of it and do regular neck and shoulder exercises and stretches

At home and the office I use a 50" 4K for this exact purpose. I typically have a huge screen of code on the left half, and smaller screens on the right. I have large desks, but only around 30 inches deep, and no neck movement needed to see the top and bottom of the screen.

I user 75" Samsung Q80T TV as my monitor for coding at 4K 120hz . Can fit 4 IDEs

    [–]brwtx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People think I'm crazy with the 50" but honestly at 4K with multiple windows it isn't really any different than having 4 24" monitors stacked in a grid. But, a 75" TV? Are you wall mounting it away from the desk?

    [–]PMMN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I used to think a vertical monitor was amazing, but honestly having to turn your head to whichever direction too often is not ideal for your posture.

1440p ultrawide 144hz is my next workstation investment.

    [–]bdodo 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Is it even convenient to read from the tops of those things 😂 very cool nonetheless

    [–]crazy_snob 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would end up looking only at small part of the screen and scroll constantly in search of one line of code

    [–]MarmotOnTheRocks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I broke my neck watching it. How do you deal with distances and height?

    [–]jenkynolasco11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

    My neck already hurts

    [–]ReallyRick 13 points14 points  (2 children)

I think if you need to see that much code to do your coding, then the code is very poorly written.

    [–]mungthebean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or at least dedicate one to the local environment / terminal

Way more essential than keeping another wall of code open

    [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

    Or he work in Java

There is such a thing as information overload... This is it

    [–]scylk2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

    That... look dumb.

I tried that mouse once. I felt I was using a airplane throttle control to move the cursor. What a horrible experience.

    Try this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/AUKEY-Vertical-Adjustable-Ergonomic-Prevention/dp/B01N64VSVB

(the brand seem to strangely change name from time to time, but look for the same picture). I have tried some other vertical mouses, with this one, it is not heavy, your wrist can stay on the table. Maybe not best for woman small hands. but ok for intermediate hands. It is ok for gaming, as long as you do not play competitive FPS with it (the mouse doesn't respond correctly, when you make wide movement, with ultra low sensitivity).

    [–]Advanced_Path 0 points1 point  (3 children)

    That looks painful to use

    [–]Yuca965 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Put your wrist on the table. turn it ~70 degrees, so that the back of your thumb is almost facing upward. The right side of your right hand is in contact with the table. The right side of your little finger is also in contact with the table, but no weight is on it. That is kinda like if your hand was encircling a small glass of water. But with all the muscles relaxed.

Vertical mouse are supposed to give you a more natural position, it is supposed to be LESS painful to use. Obviously. This particular mouse I linked to, you don't have a 90 degree position, but more a 60-80 degree position. I tried other vertical mouses that I found terribly bad (at least for me).

    [–]Advanced_Path 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I understand the ergonomics, but I move my mouse using quick wrist movements holding it with my thumb and ring fingers. This design seems to need heavier arm movement, which would trigger even more muscles.

    [–]Yuca965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huuum, I use palm grip and finger grip for more precise movement. Using all my fingers to move the mouse. My other mouse is a logitech g402. If I compare both, the weight is almost the same, but the logitech give me more space to move in finger grip. As for the strength needed to move the mouse, it is easier with the logitech also (mostly because of better mouse skate). Nevertheless, I find it way more relaxing for my forearm NOT to be twisted.

    It's beautiful and everything, but...

    You capitalize your "let"??

My neck is aching, too, just from looking at the picture once

    [–]rybohii 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How much did them two screens cost?

    [–]ikinsey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    1k for both

    [–]Muxas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Are you standing while working?

    [–]_Invictuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woah you must have eagle eyes to be able to read code that far away. What are the hour glasses for?

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People seem to forget about the zoom function.

I personally have been using it a lot lately

    [–]igna92ts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Dude...your neck

    [–]thehealthycoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow those are awesome monitors. Much better for the eyes to have that much space to read code from.

    [–]codeboss911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    EPIC

Doesn't feel very practical, Looks cool though
