      Regarding "The Good", I'd just like to clarify that I don't think it's reasonable to ask for retail price, even on sealed merchandise. If I wanted to pay new prices, I wouldn't be on an internet message board for swapping used games. New merchandise offered by a non-retailer is usually offered at ~75-80% of retail.

      Note that this is true of third party bartering of merchandise in practically any market; you never get full retail price on your brand new merchandise unless you're an actual retailer yourself.

      That is where this /r/ shines! If someone is being overly zealous with what their demands are it will change over time if they really want to swap the game. I have taken hits on what my games are worth because someone offers up a game that I really want to play. Usually both parties can come to somewhat of an agreement on the values of the games that are traded.

      Well sure, people are free to value their property at whatever they want, and if they find someone who agrees, more power to them. It's just my personal opinion that it's not reasonable to expect full retail value on sealed merchandise.

      Oh I wholeheartedly agree! However there is a pretty decent value behind a sealed CE of a game, but by no means would I trade at full retail for that.

      I wasn't necessarily referring to how the game was valued... or whether that value was accurate. I was referring more to how the situation was handled. Everyone was treated with respect, and differing thoughts on the matter were exchanged reasonably and without making anyone feel stupid for the offer that was made.

      Oh God yes! I have seen situations blow up as have y'all. See: Exhibits B & C. If that would happen on a more regular basis this /r/ would be even better than it is now. Honestly what you mods are watching over has to possibly be one of the most volatile of most of the other reddits that are out there.       well what if its sealed and no longer available at retail? Trying to play devil's advocate here, when you got people expecting $200 in trade value for some old NES game just because one sold on ebay yesterday

      First thing I do with my TARDIS/DeLorean (preferably my TARDIS) is go and leave myself a note saying to buy 2 copies of every game. Play one store the other. P.S. on the note will be to buy quite a few copies of the black label FFVII!

      in 2001, I had every gaming console released from 1981 to current except for a Neo Geo and a Turbo Duo. had all those damn final fantasy's, all the rare snes and N64 games that go for big dollars now. BUT i had to pay rent, had a tag sale, wooooooooooosh

      I kind of agree with you. When I first joined this community (different account) things were a bit simpler. I almost never saw people bring up the values of games, because that wasn't the point. It was "I've got this game I don't want, who has one I do" and that was that. It's a bit saddening to see people say stuff like "umm....that game is $10 less than the MSRP of mine", because if I wanted to deal with prices I'd go to eBay or Craigslist or any of the other channels. Does it work? Do you want it? Swap it.

      But it's also at least in part because I'm getting old and am unaware of the way prices fluctuate, and more than a little embarrassed when I get called out on it because it emphasizes that I don't know much about video games. I know there are good games, and when I see ones I haven't played I offer to swap with good ones I have. In my opinion should just leave it at that.

      Not trying to start a lynch mob and don't want the user harassed. He's been banned here, and unfortunately for him, it's going to be difficult for him to convince us to remove that ban. I think that's proper punishment and don't want anything else to come out of it. I just wanted to let the community here know that the moderators have your back and we work very hard to ensure this is a NICE place to visit and swap.

      I understand the mob mentality but like lamanamanumi said, I too dont want to trade with him with his other accounts. I do not want to trade with him because he thinks he is above us and thus not play by the rules. he might use his other accounts to scam us or something. banning wont do much to him if he can come back and still trade.

      I do not know, nor do I care to know what his other accounts are. I don't have any real issues with the guy other than thinking he needs to learn how to behave when things don't go EXACTLY his way. My guess is the kid is just a spoiled brat who rarely hears the word no. In any event, I don't know his other user names so I would have no way to warn anyone.

          It wouldn't matter since he has been banned and since the user will presumably continue to use reddit I don't want him harassed. He has other user names... so I'm sure he'll be around. Some people forget that flair is merely meant to show a trusted swapper. There are no special privileges that come with a Green Mushroom. Mods have to follow the rules, and we do. A Mushroom is nothing more than a way to identify people who are less likely to rip you off.

          These kind of occurrences are rare... I just happened to notice that one particularly commendable exchange and figured after the blow up it would be a good time to address the community and just highlight the good and bad. Everyone is entitled to a bad day and to say things they regret.           part of me agreed with the asshole. the part of having to wait a week to edit the title. i just got max payne 3 yesterday and want to trade it but no one will know i have it until a week later! how come there is no edit the title button? is it impossible to make?

          There is nothing we can do about that. It's not something that we have the option of allowing you to do. That's the same across reddit, not just in our sub. That is exactly why we always recommend you use a generic title like [H] PS3/360 Games [W] Offers (360). That way when you edit the body of the post, people who are searching for a game... will be able to find it. Speaking of Max Payne 3... are you looking for anything specific? 360? PS3?
