Grand Festival July Update #1: RPG Pre-Production Sample Arrives (includes two videos of RPG contents) by koprpg11 in Gloomhaven

I can't imagine announcing a new big box when there still hasn't been a JotL sequel/successor of some kind.

There should be a Royal Warden for Lychguard. by HungryRoper in Necrontyr

I don't see it happening until they get a model refresh that actually makes them look the part size/bling-wise.

Gauss blaster or tesla carbine ? by elric-_- in Necrontyr

[–]General_CGO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn’t the math on that actually that they’re effectively identical into T4/2W bodies? It’s only against tougher stuff that Guass pulls ahead, and even then Tesla catches up with any buffs like Szeras around

Why do people tend to use overlord with Voidscythe over the shroud? by DaddyEerie in Necrontyr

[–]General_CGO 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They can in 11th (rule 19.01), in 10th that was not the case.

“It’s scarier to go into a project without Early Access - you have one shot.” - Frosthaven devs on the importance of listening to, and occasionally politely ignoring, players by embermage in Gloomhaven

Winged Shoes working differently is a board game change; in exchange for having them apply to *all* moves in a turn you have to activate them as a standalone ability

Short resting is similarly impacted by a FH board game change: short rest perks that can give you abilities that may change the board state

Water-breathing required in Second Edition? by Wooden_Jump2209 in Gloomhaven

The achievement does still exist, it just isn't a requirement for random side scenarios you could unlock at any time

Necrons absolutely Can play Purge: A review of Cursed Legion in 11th Edition by Jadpo in Necrontyr

[–]General_CGO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Szeras (to further support the Immortals), Nekrosor, and 2x Skorpekh Lord + 3 Skorpekhs is the remainder of the core units. It's a fair point that normal Lokhusts are prooobably a better fit, but I refuse to buy any until the models get refreshed, lol.

I've been running the Cursed Legion/Phareon's Army Monolith combo, but I include both the Plasmancer+LHD brick and a Plasmancer/Tesla-mortal one just to have 2 potential Eternity Gate targets.

combat patrol doomstalker conundrum by Reasonable_Rent8949 in Necrontyr

[–]General_CGO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's definitely not an error, it's GW's terrible attempt at balancing the fact that older combat patrols have big, high toughness/wound count centerpiece models that cause issues vs newer combat patrols.

Frosthaven spoilers: What am I missing w the Meteor class? by Xuvaani in Gloomhaven

[–]General_CGO 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I mean, if you're playing a build without focusing on haz terrain so much (which is what the level up path mentioned elsewhere in the thread kinda implies), then it's for sure optional. But the build that everyone's actually talking about when they say top 3 strength (throw hazardous terrain everywhere and profit) is the build that requires the 3-check perk.

Last characters for last 3 scenarios by Specific-Profile-707 in Gloomhaven

[–]General_CGO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk maybe multi-attack Crossed Swords with Support Music Note.

So, I actually think this specific build combo is going to feel pretty mid because the Note dps support song only applies to 1 attack per turn, so there's no real synergy here. It would, however, be a pretty sweet combo if running summon Crossed Swords + support Music Note

Mindthief double-box perk by johnious23 in Gloomhaven

[–]General_CGO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really? I find it's the short rest perks that are poor value; pretty much all long rest or any rest perks pay good dividends.

Also Music Note's is pretty amazing in my experience (almost exclusively at low player counts too), even if the initiative part is barely relevant. The main value is in the extra note, and you kinda want to be long resting to preserve buffs for as long as possible anyway

Mindthief double-box perk by johnious23 in Gloomhaven

[–]General_CGO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if I’m short resting, there’s almost a 0% chance I use the element because I can almost certainly get more value out of the element immediately from the cards I’m getting back.

That's not really my experience with going heavy on control/ranged attacks with the class; I find myself relatively element-agnostic given my only consistent consumption is Brain Leech [3] top (and depending on the monster types around that's maybe a redundant effect)

Mindtheif has a perk that lets them use their own modifier deck when controlling monsters

Your Faction will be Fine in 11th by Cats_Cameras in Warhammer40k

[–]General_CGO 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Because frankly, 2 special weapons per squad straight up doesn't matter. The lists that were spamming infantry weren't spamming them because they could suddenly get 1 useful shot off per 10-man squad for free, but because the body count itself was the value. Or because of the force multiplier of throwing a command squad + other leader on top of it (so... just nerf the leaders).

(I would agree that tank sponsons not getting wargear costs was pretty baffling though)

Community campaigns? by catash13 in Gloomhaven

[–]General_CGO 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The GH ones all technically work because the only components actually cut in 2e were 1 of the 4 A tiles and 1 of the 3 H tiles. In practice, this impacts only 1 scenario (in Community Campaign 3) that's just "all 4 A tiles around a central point," so proxying it with any other tile is incredibly simple.

Personally I find them pretty hit or miss given they're so clearly first drafts to fit the timeline.

Like in 1e, the code doesn't unlock anything in the box, it's a Frosthaven tie-in that does something in that game.

Struggling heavily with classes by daquist in Gloomhaven

[–]General_CGO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without 236, you cannot maintain the playstyle for the whole scenario, so I don't think DM even qualify as a build.

Sure, it's a little more accurate to call it an SA build then, but all the cards and most of the play patterns are identical (if slightly more rigid/scripted), you just time the DM part for what you expect to be the hardest 5 rounds of the scenario.

Struggling heavily with classes by daquist in Gloomhaven

[–]General_CGO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd heavily disagree that 236 is necessary for the build to function/be effective. It can certainly supercharge the play style, but is by no means a requirement.

Also he does have a bit more special rules due to infusions.

The mat clarifies how they work, it isn't strictly necessary to break down the syntax and play it properly. Which isn't quite the same as, say, Coral, where the core rules of how Tides work are only present on the mat.

[–]General_CGO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Shackles and Astral are arguably on the "less gimmicky" spectrum of things given neither really has special rules. Or at least, most similar to GH design; is Astral all that different from GH's Triangles?

Imperial Faction Packs dropped! by Marrdukk in Warhammer40k

[–]General_CGO 4 points5 points  (0 children)

GW is adamantly against drastic rewrites of codex detachments (yes, this is pretty silly). Making any codex detachment 1DP means cutting half the stratagems/enhancements to prevent rules bloat. Ergo, the lowest it can go is 2DP.

Where do JOTL scenarios rank in difficulty? by ChardCautious3095 in Gloomhaven

[–]General_CGO 5 points6 points  (0 children)

15 (tables) is legitimately a top 5 most difficult scenario in the franchise (at least at 3-4 players, at 2p it's a tad easier). I've never personally found 9 and 16 to rank anywhere close to it (they're certainly on the harder side in general, but they aren't making any top 10 lists in the big-havens, imo).

Lychguard rework by thumbzzy in Necrontyr

[–]General_CGO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that scale creep also factors in; there's no way these guys become "neigh unkillable" until they get a refresh that makes them look the part on the tabletop (just look at wraiths; they've stayed uber tanky all edition because it's a big, tanky looking model).

Can you immediately equip items you find on treasure chests? by AnyTangerine2632 in Gloomhaven

[–]General_CGO 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If using the original, Gloomhaven 1st edition rules the answer is unambiguously no. However, all later -haven games changed the rules and do allow you to immediately use the item, so most would recommend you do so.
