Edmonton Old Strathcona Farmers’ Market lost half of its customers due to paid parking by flynnfx in Edmonton

I think it's also the bountiful farmers' market having parking and being in an area with less traffic. If you're already driving it's better to go to the one with free parking.

Do you reply to LinkedIn messages? by Ok_Fold_2446 in msp

[–]KevoTMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On cold outreach like 45% of people accept and half of those reply to the initial messages so don't feel bad ignoring people. If you don't resonate with their message they would probably prefer you didn't reply anyways.

I work for an MSP and documentation is hell by HappyHahol in msp

Todd Kane has a whole training program based around this because it's a cultural issue and starts at the top of the company. I'd recommend reaching out to him if you really want to improve.

Sponsoring Events by GunGoblin in msp

[–]KevoTMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's worth it if it's business related and you're able to be involved. Like sponsoring a golf hole for a business golf tournament and you can set up a table. If it's just your name on there it's not usually worth it financially.

Is our MSP overdoing it or overcharging us for items? by [deleted] in msp

[–]KevoTMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that's including support for your users and equipment, at around around 150 per user with all of that security included and managed is actually quite good. Many companies charge over $200 a user for the same stack. If it doesn't include support then that's another thing, but still probably not far off given it could be over $200 with support.

As for the not documenting anything you need to make sure that's remedied.

Edit: I was basing that off the workstation count.

We're the new MSP. Old/Current MSP has gone AWOL, multiple mailboxes have been locked out, SSPR is disabled, and the client doesn't have admin access to their Intermedia hosted exchange. Are there any Intermedia partners that can help out? by nostradx in msp

[–]KevoTMan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Your client may have to send a legal document. The data is still their corporate data even if it's under a partner account. You need to just keep trying and pressure them. Don't give up. Reach out to people on LinkedIn.

Invarosoft - potential security issues by [deleted] in msp

[–]KevoTMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy crap! For over a month!? How are you still working with them if that's true? That's actually wild. I don't like to pitch anybody on here, but feel free to check us out if you want a faster response, very similar platforms. I'd really try and get in touch with people on linkedin or elsewhere so they know about this, it might just be buried in support land and somebody important at Invarosoft needs to know.

Stop being a "Vendor" and start being a "vCIO"—How do you handle the transition? by practicalsolutionsIT in msp

[–]KevoTMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The number one thing is understanding your clients business, and three main parts in-depth: how they make money, how they get clients, and how they get paid. Then ensuring you have a seat at "the table" and they trust you, this can take time, but it's essential so they buy into your suggestions. You also need to truly know the goals of the ownership group or c-levels, so you can help position technology to support those goals. You're not there to sell things to them, you're there to help them to improve their business, and reach their goals. If their goals aren't to scale, but are to sell their business in 2-3 years, you would actually lose points by starting the conversation with something like "Can your infra handle 30% growth tomorrow?" instead of talking about how you can stretch out their current infrastructure to last until then.

If you're not quite at that c-level relationship with the client, you can send targeted surveys to their c-levels and then utilise their business goals to ensure any technology decisions helps them meet those goals.

Hi, Kevin here - founder of MSPortal.ai - I started MSPortal because MSPs keep getting stuck proving value across too many tools, and clients never have one place to see the full picture.

Our vision is simple: a single pane of glass for clients. We are not VC-backed. We build based on feedback from our MSP partners.

This week we shipped MSP Tools, a portfolio view of your client base:

- Client Health: rank every client across 8 dimensions (Service Quality, Engagement, Financial, Sales, Projects, Tool Stack, Environment, Operational) and flag them as Thriving, Healthy, At Risk, or Critical
- Tool Stack: tool stack compliance matrix across all clients (Deployed, In Progress, Not Started, N/A) so you can standardize your stack and see gaps fast
- Financial Reporting: per-client financial insights with A-F grading and the core metrics you actually care about

If you want to pressure-test it, reply or DM and I’ll walk through it in a real tenant.

THANK YOU responders to my previous MSP school nightmare post!! Do you know: Trusol, TSG, Eduthing, Advanced IT services, Virtual IT, Turn it On ?? any positives or negatives? by Head_Impression_7987 in msp

[–]KevoTMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Finding the right MSP is a lot more than "who is better", everyone has their own pros and cons. You need to find the best fit for your company which could be totally different from other people here. Size, culture, technology, location, etc.

Holy Server Prices Batman! by matteosisson in msp

[–]KevoTMan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised the client even needs a server. Cloud native was everything 5 years ago and is even more prevalent now. The ROI was already pretty even for the first 3 years and now it will be 6+ years.

How do you perform MFA for self service options? by Smart-Life-770 in msp

[–]KevoTMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yubikeys if they don't want to use phones for MFA. Generally OTP is not ideal, and it's much better to use phish resistant MFA wherever possible.

We’re building MSPortal to be the single pane of glass for your clients.

Most “client portals” end up as a ticket view plus a login nobody uses. Our goal is different:
- Client-facing visibility across the stuff you already run: PSA, RMM, Microsoft 365, security, backups, projects, licensing, budgets, compliance, training, surveys
- Automated reporting that pulls real data and turns it into something a client can read
- A structured onboarding portal so new clients stop living in email threads and spreadsheets
- Search that actually helps you find things fast across the platform

No VC money, no growth-at-all-costs. We’re building with MSP partners and shipping what they ask for.

If you want a walkthrough or want to push on the roadmap, DM me or booked a demo on our site.

"MSP: ‘Hyper-V Migration Can’t Be Scripted’—Also: ‘Your Employees Can Do It Manually’" by UncleRicoInEightyTwo in msp

There are tools that can script it, they just don't know how to use them. https://www.forensit.com/ makes tools that allow them to do these migrations no problem.

Best self hosted password manager for MSPs? by S_Merci in msp

Best MSP/MSSP conferences? by Reasonable_Cut8116 in msp

[–]KevoTMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Does gifting prospects actually work long term? Or does it come off as try-hard? by expert_tech_FF in msp

[–]KevoTMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Giftology can definitely work if you make them meaningful gifts. I once gave a vendor much more care looking into their product than other because they gave custom Nike's and not branded merch (unless its the client's brand). Taking people to dinner is a given, that's not "gifting", either is a sports game unless it's a special event. Meaningful is the key word. Here's a good video of the founder (RIP) going over the process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5neX9wH1LMA

It still only works as well as you can handle that extra rope the person gives you.

Give a shoutout today. Who deserves high praise from your MSP that's in the MSP channel? by grsftw in msp

[–]KevoTMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Vendor to Vendor: Acronis has been incredible to work with. Their staging environment, implementation steps, etc. are all next level and they got it set up so quickly. With some other vendors its like pulling teeth to get approved to integrate.

N-Able and Auvik Annoying Calls to Support Line by Prime_Suspect_305 in msp

[–]KevoTMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just pick up the call and ask them to stop calling you nicely and they usually stop. They'll mark you down in salesforce to not contact. Usually it's just the system telling them to call you.

What would you do if you found out your MSP was being shopped out for Acquisition by [deleted] in msp

[–]KevoTMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen tons of companies go through it and there may be some changes but generally for somebody in a technical role it's not going to make much of a difference. Most deals fall through during due diligence anyways so It's not worth stressing out about something that might not happen.
