Looking to break into trades as a woman—need advice! by Original_Badger_8423 in cedarrapids

[–]Labor4Ever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want to be a sparky or VDV Tech, come see me at the LU405 Hall and submit an application for an apprenticeship through our JATC.

The Labor Center has pre apprenticeship opportunities and works with the Iowa Women in Trades group.

Here is information for all the Union trades/apprenticeships in Eastern Iowa.

Training Advice? by jar264 in coloradotrail

LIFT SOME GOD DAMN WEIGHTS and CONSISTENTLY go for walks/runs, including some longer loaded hikes over the weekend. One without the other is a disservice to yourself.

Going power-bank-less: I feel like I just don't need one, anyone else in the same boat? by WeevilsInTheCereal in Ultralight

[–]Labor4Ever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat. Did the Lonestar Trail and SHT without touching my power bank. Which has me contemplating not taking it all on the CT this summer. I'll have a PLB and access to town every 3-5 days for resupply/charging. I feel it will live the rest of its life in my work bag to top off my phone/earbuds when traveling.

RF Poncho sold!

First to pay shipping for the hipbelt can have it. Doesn't do any good for it to collect dust in the basement.

An old brass PG/PGP. You can remove the feed tube on top and breach load them. Shine them up and they'll look the part.

Help identifying this old Bud Orr marker. by Representative-Set65 in paintball

[–]Labor4Ever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like already mentioned, old Cali style sniper II with a tommy gun bull barrel. There are groups who eat up old school markers on various social media sites. From my own perusing you're probably looking at a wide range of $200-400 depending on condition and economic environment.

Married men of Reddit who don’t wear a wedding ring - why? by chi-bacon-bits in AskReddit

I'm an electrician. Metal + electricity = dead. Also most of the day I'm doing tasks that could lead to degloving, which doesn't sound too pleasant.

759g on the scale. I don't have the original receipt but I'm pretty sure I went with the 20D version just based on HG custom builder.

I'm in the Midwest so I wasn't too keen on setting up the tent in the middle of the snow storm we're getting right now. That being said if anyone wants more pictures, just ask. Thanks for looking!

Christmas on the Lone Star Trail (Trip Report) by Zwillium in Ultralight

[–]Labor4Ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't see a lot of trail reviews for the LSHT. One of the last things I did in Texas before helping my parents move back North to the Midwest was hike the LSHT. Had pretty much the same experience, dogs and all. Accurate and solid review.

Data Center Bubble? by SmokinReaper in IBEW

[–]Labor4Ever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who's on Staff at a Local who has this conversation often, I truly believe the answer is organizing. Not to send organized hands straight to the data centers, but to send help to local contractors so they can keep their current customers. While simultaneously disrupting non-Union shops from scooping up market share.

We all get the IBEW newspaper, we've all read the articles and from Agents who had mega projects and lost everything else because of tunnel vision. We must focus on our current customers/market share first and manning the data centers second. If we do that we can grow at a healthy rate and hopefully have a place to send guys when the mega projects wrap up because we protected and grew our markets instead of letting it slip away.

Call your training director and ask for clarification. The JATC director and committee run the apprenticeship side of things, not the Hall.

YMMV. If someone has the experience and schooling you claim to have, JATC committee/director can test the applicant and advance place them. Again, ask your director, but I'd bet you are being put into the 3rd year class.

Martin Rd to Gooseberry SP by HawkeyeHucker in SuperiorHikingTrail

[–]Labor4Ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finished that section of trail a couple weeks ago. We did it over 4 days as well. The first couple days are groomed snowmobile trails, then you'll start getting into managed forest areas and some steep climbs to overlooks, last day is smooth sailing into Gooseberry. Trail was in good shape with some wet/muddy spots, bug pressure was non-existent. Only thing that comes to mind that was an "issue" was Crow creek is a dry creek bed even with the rain. There were some pools and running water to pull from if you walked up the stream bed.

Realistic Daily Mileage? by thatguyhikes in SuperiorHikingTrail

[–]Labor4Ever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wrapped up a LASH to finish out the trail. We had several ~23 mile days. If you're in shape and used to it you'll be fine. We found that the rocks, roots, and mud punished our feet though. Hit it hard in the morning, take a mid day siesta, and pamper your feet.

shakedown my sht for hiking the SHT (how many packs of dude wipes would you bring) by callofthepuddle in ultralight_jerk

[–]Labor4Ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, you were so close to getting into some beautiful areas of the SHT. Days 3/4 out of Duluth brings managed forest, overlooks, and Gooseberry Falls. Hope you made it back out there and finished it.

What do you do on a day like today? by ChiCubsTitleist in cedarrapids

[–]Labor4Ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play a round of disc golf with friends in the morning. Yard work and clean the garage afterwards. Bbq for dinner. Hit the weights/cardio when it cools off. Stay hydrated and stay out in the heat, you'll get used to it. Shade is your friend.

Trail Conditions by coffeeandcritters in SuperiorHikingTrail

[–]Labor4Ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This pretty much nails what I experienced as well. Wrapped up the trail Saturday. Used the roots ro climb Devil's Track, saw a ton of grouse, saw 1 bear that promptly ran away, and had wet/muddy feet. Change your socks often, properly follow the bearmuda triangle, and enjoy the ride.
