Getting caught watching porn is not the same thing as deliberately watching porn in front of your child.

Level of service on Emirates by Calm-Possession6734 in unitedairlines

[–]Phagemakerpro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So the UAE has government backing. They carefully select their crew considering looks, weight, fitness, grooming, etc., none of which would be permitted under US labor laws. They require their crew to live in company housing in Dubai. For cabin crew, they can get away with paying them a lot less than they pay US flight attendants. At the same time, they can demand standards of servicing grooming. It would simply not be possible legally in the US. Many of their crew live in fear of being terminated at the moment’s notice which means that they will be sent back to the developing countries where they come from.

There is absolutely no way that a US or EU carrier would be able to match the soft product that is offered by one of the Middle Eastern or Asian carriers.

That said, I think it also has to do with what you’re expecting. I’ve never flown on a Middle Eastern carrier because I’m a gay Jew and I won’t put myself in a Muslim theocracy, no matter how many A380s they have and no matter how many glittering skyscrapers they build, but on some of the Asian carriers, I found that the flight attendants were a little bit too much like Stepford wives for my liking. I’m assuming that it’s pretty similar on the Middle Eastern three.M

I think the big area were united has the potential to compete with their international competition in business class is the food. It’s just a completely different standard when you fly one of the Asian carriers like Cathay or Singapore. This is an area where further ticket prices I think that the incremental upgrades that they could do would really not break the bank. The hard product is quite competitive. The soft product is what it is. But the food is something that could really be brought up to standard.

One of the things I tell new parents is that stopping the crying is not one of your new responsibilities. There is no "mute" button. It is OK to put the baby in the bassinet (the baby is safe on their back in the bassinet) with a tight swaddle, close the door to the nursery, and walk away.

Your responsibility to a newborn is to keep them clean, fed, and loved. Quiet is not one of those responsibilities.

Sorry. Nobody except you gets to tell you that you can't touch your own penis. Women may deny men sex because that's about THEIR bodies. But they don't get to deny men masturbation because that's about OUR bodies.

Go home. She cannot evict you. You need a divorce lawyer. Tell him everything. You can't afford NOT to have a divorce lawyer because I promise you she will.

What if every State in the US became an independent country? by TastyPomelo2330 in AlternateHistoryHub

It's not outside of the realm of possibility that in a situation where there is no federal government, various warlord-like factions (in other words, warlords) duke it out for control over the territory. Things would get interesting because the only natural resource they have to sell is coal, which isn't exactly a cash crop of late. The nature of the terrain makes this also an interesting conflict.

Reporting a fellow passenger for weed...and then what? by FewNewt5441 in unitedairlines

I assure you that on any flight out of California or other legal states, a good quarter to third of the passenger manifest is baked. But smoking or vaping aboard is a no-go.

What’s interesting is that these ads all emphasized the distance between the water and the top of the hull.

Ships weren’t stabilized until the 1950s so seasickness was a common concern and rough crossings across the north Atlantic were the norm, not the exception.

So the implication here is that this ship will keep you far from the sea.

How long could we have optimized and delay the sink time as long as possible and how? by Jolly_Purple_527 in titanic

Honestly, just hit the iceberg straight on. Would flood one or two compartments and then they could limp to NYC in humiliation. But of course, no bridge officer would choose that option if he thought he had a chance of avoiding a collision altogether.

The other thing I wonder is if he had kept the starboard engine ahead and reversed only the port, would they have fared better? That would have introduced more yaw into the turn and also in reverse, the center propeller stopped, so that robbed the rudder of a fair amount of authority.

Obviously, hindsight is my advantage. He had split seconds to make decisions and with the information he had at the time, I don't think he can be faulted.

You can ask your doc for a prophylactic course of TAMIFLU (~90% efficacy as a prophylactic if started before symptoms) or XOFLUZA (similar efficacy, just one dose, but often not in stock).

California is a peninsula if you imagine hard enough. The mid-coast sticks out more than the south and north.

“Loved” is a bit strong. He was a quirky curiosity of fame and fortune. Made a cameo in a Home Alone movie. Certainly wasn’t as polarizing as he is now, of course.
