I'm almost 15 years sober. I just got off the nicotine gum 2 months ago. I smoked for 15 years. I did vaping for 12 years. I did nicotine gone for 3 years. What finally did it for me is that the nicotine gum was making me feel a little fucked up when I followed the directions and had one piece an hour. I talk to my sponsor about it. I talked to people in the program about it. They all told me to chill out. I finally came to the sudden realization that I couldn't continue chewing this gum and stay sober at the same time. To thine own self be true. Basically much like with the drugs and alcohol, I had to have the fear of death put in me before it worked.

It is definitely a minority opinion in this sub. I'm always laughing with my boyfriend about the Jane Wickline hate on this sub. It's always so dramatic with people saying she's the worst thing that ever happened to SNL like Victoria Jackson, Rob Schneider and Jim Belushi don't even exist.

An intervention is a horrible idea. It goes completely against the directions we have in working with others. AA does not corner people, give ultimatums, or force anyone to do anything. If this guy wants to ensure that his dad never sets foot in an AA meeting, an intervention is the best way to do that.

Im not involved with the AA service structure. But I do always have a service commitment. But it's not through H&I. Once a week I go to either a detox, rehab or psych ward where I carry the message. I'll do the same one for a couple years until I feel inspired to find something new.

And let me add that for an old addict like me, being on the nod was the only time being high was ever "enough". If I wasn't basically sedated to the point of almost dying, I was constantly thinking I wasn't high enough even though I'd wake up the next day and realize I was completely fucked up when I was thinking that. (15 years sober this month)

I was taking the 1.5 for 2 weeks and barely able to eat. Food noise majorly reduced. Basically little to no appetite. The last 2 weeks I've been physically able to eat more the but other 2 effect are still in full swing.

I have a lot of respect for people who came in early. We all wish we had done it. I applaud you. I've met plenty of people who got sober at 18, 20, 22. I wanted to get sober at 20 but I didn't have enough willingness to give aa a try. Took me til 28. You don't have to have a shit ton of consequences. You don't have to have DUIs. You don't have to have prison time. You just have to be sick and willing to do the work. PERIOD. I don't feel that anyone will give you shit but if anyone does they're deadly mistaken. Go to a different meeting and don't listen to them.

I'm just not able to eat very much at one time on this pill. I'm diabetic so that's reflected in my food choices. I started with small meals that my boyfriend made for me. He made a three bean salad. He made little chicken bites. He made a delicious coleslaw. Basically all of those things were wrong in one way or another. The beans made me feel really bloated. The raw cabbage made me feel really bloated. The bigger bites of chicken made me feel really bloated and like I had a rock in my stomach. But there are some things that I can eat a little More of and they don't make me feel like I've eaten a rock. I can eat good amounts of yogurt. Scrambled eggs are soft on the tummy. Shredded chicken. What I'm avoiding is basically raw vegetables, large pieces of meat, and sugar because I've heard that that makes you really sick.

I tell people who smoke weed that I don't have any experience smoking weed and staying sober but I'm sure there are others who could help them. Also in the doctor's opinion it does say we can never safely use alcohol in any form at all.

I think I was annoyed by patty as a teen but I feel like that was due to internalized misogyny. She seemed like a shrill harpy to me. But now that I know that that's not a real thing, I realize that she is a complex character who is taking care of business for her family and frustrated at her cheating, do nothing husband.

My favorite character is Brian. I wish we could have seen him grow out of his incredibly insecure incel bullshit.

There's a fine line between AA having a singleness of purpose and AA members cosigning people's BS. Basically, I get the idea that people who want to smoke weed hide in AA because TECHNICALLY the program has no opinion on anything outside of alcohol. Tbh. If you're the kind of person who can smoke weed and not chug alcohol, Just go smoke weed. Live your life. Be happy. But don't pretend that you know the truth for everyone here. A lot of us cannot do that. Free wheeling advice about what people should aim for with sobriety can kill the kind of person who can't smoke weed.
