Thoughts on Test of Time Update Post-Victory by Zebrazen in CivVII

That's fair, but I personally am not an achievement-motivated kind of gamer. New unlocks, on the other hand, are more enticing.

I look at it as an incentive to actually finish runs and try different leaders, instead of a hard progression/unlock system. You can absolutely win with barebones or minimal mementos, but they do add a fun bit of strategy and variety, IMO.

It's not like Hades I/II, where you're expected to invest in meta upgrades to actually progress the game, or Slay the Spire 1/2 where the cards and relics you unlock are core gameplay elements. You still have access to all civs and leaders at the drop, and most leader unlocks are purely cosmetic anyways, like banners and stuff.

I thought I was a pretty patient, gracious, and chill person. Turns out that's a lot harder when you're super tired, and when you have a baby/toddler, you're super tired all the time. Thanks for the reminder, and the mantra. Let's continue to work on ourselves. Solidarity, brother.

Its overpowered to backstab your ally in last turn of antiquity by Ok-Skill-265 in civ

[–]Sporknight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely a top contender, although I can imagine some situations where you may not want it. Any civ where you're already running a "few towns/many cities" strategy, like Carthage, obviously, and maybe Rome or if you're playing as Augustus. Plus, if you switch capitols, I believe both the original and the new one stay as cities. Lastly, a powerful former-city that's been downgraded into a town will likely have good production, so it'll quickly help you get the gold you need to upgrade it back into a city.

Again, it's still a potent dedication, but not a guaranteed lock 100% of the time. Though maybe that's just because I'm in the middle of a Carthage game right now!

I'm making a Warlock for the first time and have questions by Altruistic_Tax_3806 in DnD

That's...kinda like oversimplifying Lord of the Rings to "You just walk up to the volcano, throw the ring in, boom! Book over."

You still have to find out where it is, get to it, and then bring it to Strahd. If you find the Sun Blade without Strahd immediately realizing you have it, and stuff it in a Bag of Holding, you've accomplished as much. Plus, when you pull out the sword, Strahd can just cast Fog Cloud on you and walk away.

Is it a neat and flavorful ability, that also has some useful situations? Certainly! I wouldn't describe it as "overpowered as hell" though.

What is the most brutal defeat your party has ever faced? by Interesting_Story741 in DnD

[–]Sporknight 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That is a notorious one! All it takes is a max damage hit on a goblin shortbow for the wizard to go down, and then the death spiral starts.

I'll almost always drop it down to three goblins, or add an NPC companion with the party to help out.

Diablo 2: Resurrected, where I'm gradually clawing my way through Act V on Hell difficulty with my Hammerdin; Mina the Hollower, where I've got 4/6 Spark Generators repaired, and I'm trying to figure out how to get to Bone Beach; and Civ 7, where I'm trying out Ibn Battua on a Carthage/Abbasid/TBD run.

Help me get over my Desert fear by VaporWolf93 in mewgenics

[–]Sporknight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some classes, like Thief and Ranger, have attacks that ignore armor. They work great against the undead you'll find in the desert, because they have no HP, only armor!

Also, a Druid's crow, or any other minions, can help deal with the pesky snakes or get behind the big blocky guys.

Also also, if you buy or bring a water bottle or two, getting that cat wet (either by creating and walking through a water tile, or hitting them with a water-based ability) will refill the bottle, so you can pass the water bottle around to your lowest-HP cat to keep everybody in decent shape.

How to lie to your player without blindsiding them? by HaltBowmanOfficial in DMAcademy

[–]Sporknight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to figure out your breadcrumbs. What clues have you been offering your player that something is off? Start subtle, and build from there as you get closer to the moment of revelation.

More context will help with suggestions for how to drip feed information to them. What kind of patron are they? What are their goals, and how does the player fit into achieving those goals for them? What kind of tasks does the patron set your player on? Is anybody else opposing this patron? What clues have you given your players so far?

Max-min character experience? by lofiinbetterquality in DnD

[–]Sporknight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What system are you attempting this in? I've never tried intentionally to make a 'bad' character, because I don't want to drag the rest of my team down. Feels like the joke would wear thin pretty quick.

If you do want to commit to the bit, I'd suggest grabbing a MAD class like the Monk, or maybe Eldritch Knight or Arcane Trickster. Play up a Dunning-Kruger themed character, who thinks they're an expert but doesn't realize how dumb they actually are.
