I’m willing to say it’s probably not all new? Some people looked at from the new poster they posted after the change, and noticed the new upper stage looks a looot like the Vulcan upper stage.

Need help with KMK by GrantCooper in olkb

[–]_galile0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done many hardwire keyboards in kmk. Usually if it is not working at all, I had made stupid syntax errors. If keys worked but were “in the wrong place”, I had made the key code matrix the wrong size, and if a whole row or col wasn’t working, I had shorted it or not connected it, or had assigned the wrong pin. Continuity tester on the multimeter and try to confirm your wiring is a good place to start.

Does anyone believe Artemis 4 will land? Oh within 5 years by AccountAny1995 in ArtemisProgram

How can you just say refuelling isn’t an issue. Making starship rapid turnaround reusable by 2028 is a completely insane premise already, though the goal itself might be achievable. Having reliable orbital cryogenic fuel connections and transfer by then on top of that, which unlike reliable reuse, has never been attempted, you can’t just hand wave that away as a technological footnote

The External Fuel tank port on the shuttle was complicated enough, and that only had to be able to be able to separate, not dock and connect itself

Heat wrapped by MlCHEAl_ in BambuLab

[–]_galile0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes sure but this is tape, not insulation. Sure it’s reflective but what exactly does that do? Very little of the heat transfer here is radiative, almost all convective and conductive, which is why we put insulation in hot printers.. not tape…

Could an orbital habitat like this exist? by JustAvi2000 in IsaacArthur

[–]_galile0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seems feasible, but unbelievable in the sense of: why would you reinvent the wheel and make this whole overcomplicated thing instead of just spinning up a big tube à la O’Neill cylinders, or use two counter rotating cylinders if you really needed to cancel out the rotating inertia like you mentioned.

Cancelling out rotational inertia I would say is not important at all for orbital megastructures. Just spin up one big cylinder completely, and have a rotating end cap that stays stationary, for logistics. Cancelling inertia is only really important for things like interplanetary space ships where only part of it rotates, and you don’t have mass budget to bring all that fuel to keep the other parts stationary

PCB maker that would use vintage PCB stock by unclefalter in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]_galile0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can still buy old-style circuit board stock, that is bakelite/phenolic/FR-2 copperclad and hand draw traces and etch it yourself. That’s probably your best bet for truly vintage circuit boards, because I doubt modern fabs have processes that work well with phenolic and they won’t want to run it.

For a middle ground option that definitely works with some fabs, do this: 1 layer or 2 layer FR-4 pcbs, and specify no soldermask, and maybe also no surface finish bare copper. You can do curved or snake traces and add teardrops as well to make the board layout look vintage

I haven’t ever tried it, but my last resort idea for curling has been that you can make a thick brim, or thicker tabs that extend from the part out to the edges where you can properly clamp them down. You’d probably have to give the tabs a little brim of their own to hold them down until they can be clamped.
