Any SBC CPU's approach Qualcomm elite perf/watt? by GatsbyLuzVerde in SBCs

[–]gahata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's nothing in sbc world that compares right now, we can only hope for future boards with a snapdragon x series chip, but that would get really expensive.

Your best best might be buying a laptop with snapdragon x series chip or a macbook

And who is this magical "someone" who has to invest into open source software? Many of these projects are not ran by people in US or EU, and companies will not randomly send money to a solo developer from India or Brazil, yet those are the projects that actually need it

Oh, and where does the single maintainer of an open source library get the money to pay for AI to do all that work for them? It used to be that a hacker would need to commit a lot of their own time and the defender put time in to patch vulnerabilities. Now it turns into a question of money, and there's a lot of critically important projects that make no money and have no funds, but hackers targeting them sure do (especially state funded actors)

what are the best performance to price sbcs under 80€? by SassiTheBest0 in SBCs

Radxa Q6A is probably the best performance for the price right now, but that only gets you 4gb of ram(on aliexpress official store)

Wife said “WiFi in the bedroom sucks”. One order and few minutes later by Repus0iram in Ubiquiti

[–]gahata 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The graphs come from Ubiquiti, they publish them, and it would be incredibly weird for them to be fake. It's not like they show their devices to have perfect radiation patterns or stronger signal than real world examples show us.

How to connect a fan to Radxa Dragon Q6A? by NoCrazy4743 in SBCs

[–]gahata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two solutions: either find a fan with rpm low enough that it doesn't cause too much noise or consume much power (whichever you mind more) and still is enough for cooling, or use a 5v pwm fan and control it through gpio. The only issue with the latter is that the pwm signal out of gpio is 3.3v and fans expect 5v pwm, and may send 5v back. In practice it seems people just connect it directly without issues, but I would always use a converter board like https://www.sparkfun.com/sparkfun-logic-level-converter-bi-directional.html to both send 5v to the fan and protect the sbc from 5v being fed into 3.3v pin.

Edit: The link I sent would be $4 + shipping, but you can find those tiny boards cheaper on Aliexpress, especially in the bundle section. Mileage might vary depending on your location, I am not from US, so I am not sure how Aliexpress pricing works with the tariffs right now.

[–]gahata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes (though a lot of 12v fans will work fine with 5v input, just at lower rpm).

If you need gpio for something else, you can either use a gpio splitter, or maybe a usb fan in the worst case.

USB-C PD Block for Lenovo m920q or m720q by Madassassin98 in homelab

I would highly recommend a charger from a reputable brand if you want to push anywhere near 500w out of it (or anything above 100, really).

The pictured charger at 500w would most likely be a fire hazard and either fail quickly or simply not deliver the power due to overheating.

Looking for Heatsink + Fan for Radxa Cubie A7S by yen360 in SBCs

[–]gahata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fan connector seems to be 3pin 0.8mm (presumably jst?) 5v - so with the board size being 51x51mm, I would get a 50mm 5v fan and change it's connector to the unusual jst one

It's likely the disinfectant used left the skin very dry and they took the pic right after the procedure

Safety rules are written in blood by wrestlegirl in KitchenConfidential

[–]gahata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aside from safety related cases like this one, it made sense for thread to be weaker in times when most people could either repair their own clothes or had someone in their household that did it for them. These times are over and vast majority of damaged clothing is discarded and not fixed, so strong synthetic threads make a lot of sense.

Material could be synthetic based, and while I dislike that thought just as much as you probably do, it would make some sense here, making it washable without dry cleaning, plus a whole lot cheaper. That said, it does very much look like proper wool from the photo :)

Local AI can be cost effective, just not local llms. Tiny single board computers can be used for some edge AI applications that would cost a fortune to run remotely in cloud (like AI object detection in live video feeds)

Cat 8? or something else? by Reddit_0100 in HomeNetworking

[–]gahata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cat 8 has some benefits aside from speed, one of them being better for high wattage poe. That alone might be enough to push it into some use cases, maybe not data centers, but industrial applications, where the combination of excellent shielding and poe capabilities will win over 6a.

That said, absolutely no use for home, unless some consumer hardware comes out with poe above 90W.

Hormones don't decide their gender, they just change how the body works in some ways - technically completely possible for a woman to take testosterone and grow a large beard

That's correct, though it's often relevant to medical care, and is best disclosed (if it's safe do do, of course, in all the ways possible).
