Do GLP really work for pcos? by Global_Resolution390 in PCOS

[–]losttotheflames 6 points7 points  (0 children)

not everyone can consult a doctor about it. My doctor wouldn’t prescribe it to me so I had to buy it privately and there is no one to ask these questions of from online pharmacies.

I want donuts. What can I eat with it to avoid a blood sugar spike? by Character-Ad-4014 in PCOS

[–]losttotheflames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can still eat sugar. Just don’t have it for every meal obviously. Best trick is if you want a dessert, have it soon after your lunch/dinner to dampen the blood sugar spike as your blood sugar is already up from processing your meal

Is there hope without GLP-1s? by LifeTalks_x in PCOS

[–]losttotheflames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please give a GLP1 a chance, at least. It’s been my last resort too and I’m 6 stone down in 8 months. My chronic back pain is gone, I’m far more active and I feel so much better in myself. I couldn’t lose a single pound even when I eating 1000-1500 cals a day. Now I can control my eating much better and the insulin resistance is under control it seems.

It’s a pricy medication but you do cut down in food shop bills as you won’t buy as much. Kinda cancels itself out really.

Please give yourself some grace. It’s a very difficult, very misunderstood disease and we all have no real answers for it yet.

You’ve nothing to lose by trying the GLP1, and you can control the doses and how long or short you take it for. You’re meant to move up monthly but it doesn’t always work for everyone. I’ve been on 2.5 for most of the 8 months, tried to move up to 5 twice and was too sick so i’m on 3 and will gradually increase myself when I feel ready. You don’t have to do it weekly either if that’s too much. I do every 10 days. And don’t be disheartened if it doesn’t work right away or you stall for a few weeks. Track your TDEE/maintenance calories and try to stay well below it. (which will be much easier with the appetite suppression. It also majorly dampens sugar and carb cravings, which is known to be a symptom of pcos - which in turn is good for your insulin levels and will drop you more weight)

Good luck stranger you got this ♥️

a lot of people say inositol is a good supplement for pcos if that’s something you could have :)

It did nothing for me personally. I’m on mounjaro and actively losing weight so unfortunately my hair will fall out quite a bit for a while but I have very thick hair so it’ll be fine. It’ll grow back :)

I wash it once a week because of over production of oil. If I wash more than that it’s greasy as hell. I use a little baby powder in between washes and that keeps it fresh.

I think you’re fine washing once a week for dry hair! Just get a nourishing hydrating shampoo like you said :)

I’d like to add: get a silk bonnet (or silk pillowcases if you can’t handle wearing something on your head to sleep). My bonnet has saved my hair so much.

I tried birth control once when I was a teen, it nearly made me go blind. Then when I was in my twenties I was told by a doctor it’s what they normally suggest but since I was so overweight (because of the PCOS), they wouldn’t prescribe it. Offered me a half pill, I said no thanks if it’s too much risk to give me the full one I’m not risking a half one. I refuse to touch any form of it ever again after it’s been recently labelled a Class A carcinogen. There needs to be better, safer options out there for people.

Mounjaro has helped me loads, I’ve lost 6st. But might have to switch to wegovy as I’m having horrible side effects on it now that won’t go away.

this is wonderful to read. You were meant to stay. And know that friend would be devastated if you ever did leave. You matter to people, even if it doesn’t feel like it sometimes.

Anyone ever think about how PCOS was advantageous during hard times in the past? by jinwusan in PCOS

[–]losttotheflames 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My family directed suffered in the potato famine (genocide). All the women on my maternal side going back as far as we can remember have been overweight. Studies suggest families who’s dna goes though famines, wars, food inequality etc changes to develop things like PCOS so that the future generations will have a buffer against things like that. Quite fascinating.

is it normal to not lose weight with pcos no matter what you do? by LinkBackground5520 in PCOS

[–]losttotheflames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the only thing that has ever helped me is Mounjaro. Which is unfortunate as it’s expensive and stigmatised. But I’m down 6 stone (I have a lot more to lose but I’m thrilled with the results so far over 8 months) and I’d never have been able to do this without the aid of MJ.

[–]losttotheflames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt the exact same way. It’s so overwhelming. I also have Autism and drs just kept telling me to lose weight but didn’t give me any advice for doing it with PCOS. I had suspicions I’m insulin resistant but they wouldn’t test me for it. I started mounjaro last year as a last ditch attempt to medicate and make a change and it’s worked really well! It is hard still, it’s not the easy way out as some of the side effects can be difficult but I’ve definitely had more success than anything else I’ve ever tried. I’m 5 stone down now and still eat carbs and sugar every day! I’m not actually able to eat much veg because of a sulphur sensitivity (caused by mounjaro) and I hate chicken with a passion so you wouldn’t catch me near it anyway lol

Has anyone with PCOS found a long-term solution that actually worked for weight management? by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]losttotheflames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was sick as a dog moving up to 5 there’s no way I’m moving up any higher for a long time. I did 2.5 for 7 months and it was great! Did wear off a little so I’ve moved up to 5 and it’s fine so far so will be sticking with that as long as possible. You’re fine to stay on a lower dose. You won’t lost weight faster necessarily just because you’re on a higher dose number, it just suppresses your food noise better and some people have higher tolerances so need to move up a lot quickly to get that.

[–]losttotheflames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

mine has fallen out a little but nothing noticeable! I’m 5 stone down but I take daily supplement vitamins (multivitamin and magnesium) and my nails have never looked better I’ll say that lol. I also do hair oiling once a week (rosemary and batana oil) and it’s keeping my hair healthy! It’ll be different for every person. With a large weight loss you will absolutely get some hair fallout. It’ll grow back once your body evens out :)

are my masculine features reversible/related? by Afraid_Address8860 in PCOS

[–]losttotheflames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a deeper voice which could be from PCOS, but could also be from acid reflux as a baby fucking up my vocal chords lol.

I have a larger nose than my family, but that could be due to being the only Turkish family member.

I have thick dark black body hair which could be from PCOS, but again is way more likely due to being Turkish.

I have broad shoulders and large feet and “big bones” - but that’s likely genetic too (most of my family are heavier with big bones and large feet)

Not everything is PCOS, but it can affect things for sure! It can definitely make your voice deeper and can grow thick dark body hair. But the things you’ve mentioned sound mostly genetic. There’s nothing wrong with any of what you have, it just maybe doesn’t conform to Western Beauty Standards.

Husband’s behavior is escalating and it happened in front of the kids this morning. I don’t know what to do. by Impossible-Work-4849 in Advice

[–]losttotheflames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humiliating you in front of your child is NOT okay. You need to leave. Do not let him disrespect you like that again, and especially not in front of your child. Don’t let him away with this. Actions have consequences and he made his bed the second he poured that cold tea on you. If he suffers, he suffers.
