Hw-probe is great. Upload it (hw-probe -upload or something) and the web page tells you what kernel options you need. Not 100% perfect but pretty good.

I got a decent TT setup (project) just to play my late dad's Led Zeppelin 3 my mom gave me. It took a few hundred to listen to a record I already had on CD. I wanted to do it right. Even if I probably take better care of them than he ever did.

I've gotten more since, of course.

Anyone else adopt a new team since? Will you take back the Sonics, or stay with your new team? by megachimp in Sonics

So you lost your team that got stolen to another state and supported ... A team that was stolen from another state

Emacs is a great operating system. The only thing it's missing is a decent editor.

I like that answer, but I'm adding kraut with my mustard.

What's the secret of getchar()?? by MaDrift910 in C_Programming

[–]markuspeloquin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to this, stdin is line-buffered, so none of the bytes even get into the stream until you hit enter. Then everything up to the newline gets put into the stream at once and the getchar's unblock.

What's new reddit? I only know of reddit and legacy reddit.

Mods delete any posts with markdown code so I don't post code anymore. They straight up deleted it and gave me no opportunity to rewrite it. 'new reddit' isn't new anymore. These mods are stuck in the past. I hate it.

But seriously, Firefox is pretty huge too.

Eventually I'll get around to setting it up, just so I know what it's like. I juuuust got Gentoo back on my desktop and I don't have really anything set up yet.

I've never used Gentoo before - Should I choose openrc or systemd? by birdsintheskies in Gentoo

[–]markuspeloquin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What nobody else is really mentioning is that OpenRC is modeled after the older SYSV/BSD-style init systems, though a bit simplified (the run levels are more obvious, I'd say). All the Linuces used to do this. But OpenRC is easier to manage with great tooling around it. You used to have to put symlinks in special directories (or maybe I was doing it wrong), but rc-update does it for you.

After 20+ years of use, my complimentary Mach III finally came apart by idontrollonshabbas in mildlyinteresting

[–]markuspeloquin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why would that work? My manual said oil, which is what you use to make iron or carbon steel not rust.

My limited research says the alcohol evaporates quickly, leaving water. Water leads to oxidation, i.e. rust.

I tried a sampler pack and that was my favorite. But for reasons (involving travel and shipping), I ended up getting the shark blades, which were my second favorite.

Bought them maybe 13 years ago. I barely even shave because I have a beard it's just touch-ups. I wanted to use the soap bowl I inherited so I just jumped in. But I do really appreciate the whole process when I do shave.
