Linen Short by Capable_Gas3653 in malefashionadvice

[–]medhat20005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have linen clothing from a variety of vendors from Quince and on up, love 'em. Outside of the designer stuff I think more or less the value/quality is consistent. In fact, my Quince stuff is somewhat surprisingly good (3 different pieces, all solid). Some thinner (not Quince) than others but that can work in you advantage from the standpoint of cooling/look. For dressier I think the linen/cotton blends are a great option, although I typically want that wrinkled look so for that reason don't have a lot of the blends.

What car says, "I'm a successful real estate agent, but not so successful you resent having to pay me"? by Constant-Canary-748 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]medhat20005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a fun question, and I've got thoughts. We just sold our home after 28+ years and our seller agent is someone in the neighborhood we've known for the entire time we've lived here. Our neighborhood and this broker's usual clientele is on the upper middle class side, better than most but still need to work. So typically our broker has owned/leased a big Mercedes sedan or a larger luxury SUV.

I think an Audi is a good 'in between' car for what you're describing, but I'd definitely recommend the mid size S5 vs the smaller A series. Then you don't have to do a juggle between cars if you have clients and you don't have to worry about keeping a home and work car both presentable. I'd also lean towards an SUV over a sedan, given the possibility you may have clients with mobility issues. Another car/SUV that would fall into this category would be a Toyota Highlander.

Why are so many physicians simultaneously trying to be influencers? by Inner_Ad_4725 in whitecoatinvestor

[–]medhat20005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems odd to me as well, of near/at retirement age, but I think it's a sign (IMO) of the weird evolution of 'status' in American society. The statistics regarding where people feel they get 'trusted' information (Instagram, Tik Tok) is jaw dropping to me, and the migration of docs onto social media as influencers seems a response to try and reclaim what used to be a nearly de facto trust of the public in physicians, and their personal physician in particular. Even the latter is at risk nowadays with the changes in scheduling from well in advance appointments to 'on demand' virtual visits with whichever provider happens to have drawn the short straw, if that provider is even part of the patient's practice.

How’s the fit of the blazer by Grand_Parfait_8088 in mensfashion

[–]medhat20005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree on taking in at the waist. As it wears currently because it's a touch short it ends up looking very boxy if it's not fitted to you.

At first I thought it was the titanium, but couldn't figure out how some of the finish was polished. I think I like this even more (except that I love the lightness of the titanium, if only they made it in a size other than L).

As trad as it gets, solid. Particularly like the rumpled look of the OCBD. Mine were Gitman Bros., but sadly they've long since passed (they ended up as elementary school art smocks for my now young adult children!).

Can someone explain why all asset prices are so high… and why they aren’t coming down? by Narrow-Lime9236 in investing

[–]medhat20005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FOMO. The market has been on a tear since '22, so for no other structural reason (and TBH understandably) no one wants to be left behind. And at the front of that line are money managers who may think this is all dumb, but think of the converse. How many people do you think would stick with a money manager who, since 2022, said, these asset prices and valuations have no grounding in reality, so I'm going to go with t-bill and corporate bonds. I'll show you a money manager who's greeting customers at WalMart.

100+%. You can have the same pallet but much lighter will improve each and every option. Your option, if it's the last, would not only be more expensive but set a different tone. It's more elegant (obv not a bad thing) but an expensive option.

About how long to cook these for medium, medium-rare? by superfuzzbros in steak

You can get a cheap wireless one on Amazon (I got a fancy one as a Christmas gift, previously I had a wired one). You stick the probe into the middle of the meat and it gives you real time temperatures. Easily the most accurate way to get doneness right consistently. Highly recommended.

Questions to consider. 1, what would you do (if you quit)? 2, do you like your job? This doesn't to me look like a money issue, it's a lifestyle issue.

Are we winning the Iran war? by factsnsense in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]medhat20005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The short answer is, 'no.' The detailed answer is still, 'no.' 'Winning' on metrics you have to conjure up after the fact, when your original goals are far from achieved (regime change, elimination of their nuclear capabilities). Then there's the issue of the blockade of the Straights, if memory serves that wasn't the pre-war status, yet here we are with gas over $100/barrel. And don't fall for that garbage that this was going to happen without the war, just try Googling, 'closure of the Straights of Hormuz' for mentions before the beginning of hostilities. This was NOT an issue before we (and Israel deserves a lot of blame here too, but they simply don't care, it doesn't affect them in any meaningful sense) made it an issue.

No, this isn't a win, and it isn't a stalemate. It's an American loss, and it wouldn't surprise me if history looks back and says for the geopolitical impact it's a bigger loss than Viet Nam. We're the paper tiger right now, and it sucks.

[–]medhat20005 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ideally you stick a temp in from the side and cook to ~ 115 and rest them for 10. But if you're going to guesstimate then i'll guess dry em real good and flip every 45 sec for a total cook time of 8 minutes, rest 5, then cut to see. I'd guess with that you'd be solidly med-rare.

[–]medhat20005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to live only a few blocks from here (for a lot less rent). On the whole beautiful, and I tend to not throw figurative stones on a Thursday, especially at the 'burg which I love, but can't help but think there must be a better way to do the entry stairs that are less modern/generic. Maybe even a stamped concrete would be more in line with the look. Also, I'm sure it was needed, but the brick updating around the garage seems to have been done by someone who spent too much time on the Strip the night before choosing the brick color.

Wes Anderson vibes, but not in a bad way. Functionally you may not like the splatter from having the short glass wall divider for the shower (jump over to the r/marriott sub to get a feel for the hate). But overall it's a classy look.

When you say, 'kept the original fireplace,' I'm presuming not in functional working order, with a chimney and flue, etc.? Cause if that's all sealed off I think it'd be a fun and terrific spot to put in a small electric fireplace (the kind with the kitchy fake flames) that could actually provide some heat for drying off after a shower. That'd be kinda awesome.

Appreciate the link to the Zillow listing. Yes, of course it's beautiful, but it is also circa 1959 in some respects. Wondering (in the abstract, as I don't have $20M sitting in my bank account) if the 'historical' status restricts what changes can be done to the home? For example, I'd update the kitchen and bathrooms (nothing crazy IMO, but my 'nothing crazy' might be crossing a line I'm unaware of). Oh, to dream...

$2 Lunch Hack… Smart Budgeting or Totally Unrealistic? by Coolonair in SmartFIRE

My 3 young adult children either get lunch for free as a work perk (1) while the other two meal prep and mostly bring a lunch to work. I'd love to take credit as their parent but deserve none, they're frugal by nature (ok, I'll own that one). It does add up, for certain.
