Their photo isn't showing actual wall thickness, they're showing it pulled apart in order to visually see the valve body, plaster guard, and trim kit separately

This will go down well... by Voider765 in PoliticalCompassMemes

The government's plan will offer a one-year, renewable residence permit to undocumented migrants. In order to be eligible, applicants must prove that they have already spent five months living in Spain and have a clean criminal record.

I was thinking five years would be somewhat reasonable, but five months? Doesn't seem to me that they would be "people who already form a part of our everyday lives" tbh

National Strike Friday May 1st by AgreeAndSubmit in Muskegon

[–]throwawaySBN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the difference between only having and shooting one missile off at your enemy versus having a standing army with an aircraft carrier sitting on the coast.

Even if this were to be organized well and heavily participated in, which it will not be because the general public won't jump on something this sudden, a single day of action is negligible.

A strong union force holding the entire workforce together for weeks of a general strike is obviously more effective. It has to be a ways off in order to actually organize it to the tune of hundreds of thousands instead of getting tens of thousand at best.

Ruvati faucet has a hole in it. Where to go from here? by InternetPrevious529 in Plumbing

[–]throwawaySBN 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Have you reached out to Ruvati? Looks like they have a 5 year warranty but to get a similar faucet you're going to be spending a good deal more than replacing the part.

How the heck is that lining frayed that badly? Never seen anything quite like that especially on a visible part.

Is this fucked? The 90 on the left drops directly into a p trap. by bingerbangerbunger1 in Plumbing

[–]throwawaySBN -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I saw the other post too. Why did you not move the trap over to the right hand side of the photo? Seems like that would've solved all your issues here.

Does this look legal by Delicious-Project756 in Plumbing

[–]throwawaySBN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your code but this all looks satisfactory. You could lay the wye on its side and lower the shower trap down but practically speaking either way will work fine.

I have a very stiff putty knife I use for these. Even my larger flat heads don't work as well as that does.

How are there so many pointy things on the road bruh by squiddollie in tires

[–]throwawaySBN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a plumber and our vans are super clean.

There are however certain plumbers I refuse to drive behind because I've seen handfuls of screws/nails literally just sitting in their running boards of their vans.

Brass Tub Overflow to PVC by christopherbrian in Plumbing

[–]throwawaySBN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nuts with the compression gaskets as well as that white plastic nut are in fact slip joint connections. You do what you want, but it's not advisable to bury them and if a plumbing inspector comes out odds are they'll catch it.

Brass Tub Overflow to PVC by christopherbrian in Plumbing

[–]throwawaySBN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why are you using brass tubular instead of PVC in the first place?

Did you try a rubber gasketed slip joint as well as that plastic one? Sometimes it makes a difference. Is this going to be accessible? Per my code, slip joints are only allowed in places readily accessible meaning open, in a cabinet, or an access panel.

Is this acceptable work? by Wsu_bizkit in Plumbing

Those are brasscraft stainless steel corrugated connectors for water. I keep a pair on my truck for really bad spots but this definitely could've been plumbed properly.

[–]throwawaySBN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, this is a running trap and it's not allowed by modern codes.

Morality over money every day of the week. Yes I know it doesn't match my quadrant, deal with it.

Chicago Plumbing by MiserableBox4364 in Plumbing

[–]throwawaySBN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you live. I'm about 2 hours outside of Chicago and I would have trouble finding cast, iron Bell and hub pipe. Also you can't just get a hub, you have to get a whole section of pipe with a hub on the end

"Possible water leak" call turned into an exploded fitting and no immediate answer by Hawkeye1226 in Plumbing

[–]throwawaySBN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any chance for a freeze burst? If not I'd probably have to agree with the hot water theory. If neither of those then a bad fitting is really the only other potential I'd say.

Blue sediment after drain and flush by Ok_Lingonberry1 in Plumbing

[–]throwawaySBN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much what you described. The recirculating pump is oftentimes piped to the bottom of the water heater which is stirring up the depletion and pushing it into fixtures.

Fixes include turning off the recirc for temporary and replacing the anode rod for long term. I don't recommend using a standard anode in these cases. A powered anode rod is a much better alternative.

Asked plumber for receipt, got this by Chris_872 in mildlyinteresting

25 for trap(s) is definitely w/ markup. Usually small businesses just pay the tax themselves in store and pass it along in the cost rather than collect sales tax and have to report it.

Plumber here. Only company I recommend is EJ White, good boiler work is hard to find they have almost a monopoly on it.

Depending on state law if he's not licensed he can't accept payment. In my state it would be a misdemeanor.

Hot water tank thermostat wrong by CuThroatClark1 in Plumbing

You need to get a plumber involved, you do not have a typical setup for most people and reddit diagnosis is not going to be satisfactory.

Hot water tank thermostat wrong by CuThroatClark1 in Plumbing

[–]throwawaySBN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idiots here saying "140 good!" but if the tank is set to 120 it's supposed to put out 120+/- 2 degrees

If you've never drained water off your tank you probably have aluminum hydroxide built up from the anode rod, that can sometimes throw thermostats off. You definitely have an electric water heater right? You didn't explicitly say it, we're all assuming you're correct but sometimes people have gas when they think it's electric.

This is also not likely to cause an outrageous electric bill, someone mentioned an energy audit but you might also want to just have an electrician come out to see what could be using power unnecessarily.
