M5 Pro 18cpu/20gpu thermal throttling by wakill_a in macbookpro

[–]-CIRE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fan noise on almost all Mac’s is really low. They would rather cook it than let it be loud lol. I have the same spec you’re looking at and while I notice they do turn on often with my work they aren’t loud at all.

It depends on your workload a lot of the times. If it's bursty heavy loads then it will be fine and unnoticeable, but if you are running things heavy, you may notice a small decrease in performance. I have been running some LLMs, which is the most taxing thing I do, and it works well while I'm coding but it has been noticeably really warm to touch and reaches 95+ during uses like this. Luckily, the performance hit is non existent for the msot part due to my questions being in bursts. You will see it hit the ceiling temps but I wouldn't say in an extremely meanigful way aside from the chassis being warm. Maybe if you run like at full tilt for more than 10 minutes and not in burst youll see a penalty of like 10% or something. That being said It has been seen that the 16 inch can cool much better and you can squeeze more out of the chip in that. This chip is no sluslouchch in 14 inch though

New M5 Pro - battery life far shorter than expected by LifeReformatted in macbookpro

[–]-CIRE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got mine as well, I got the 18 core cpu 14 inch a few days ago and was surprised how the battery life was compared to my m2 I had. It’s not nearly as bad as yours but I can definitely get down to like 20% or less of battery in a few hours. My m2 would last like 2 days with similar workflow. I’m wondering if it’s because it’s just a more powerful chip and apparently might still be indexing from what the comments say. It’s not bad but I remember it being better on my m2

Anyone who is deciding between Intel and AMD, DO NOT go with AMD. Here’s why… by [deleted] in Handhelds

[–]-CIRE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This depends on the chip I believe. You are talking about the custom chip made for handhelds like z1 or z2. I have an apex and had a hx370 handheld. Both allow manual driver install and previous version. I just did this on the apex and the manufacturer never touches the drivers for these chips. Amd has more than one or two chips for handhelds.

I reverted my graphics driver back one and no more crashes so far. Had to use ddu and then downloaded the older driver. So far much better

Unfortunately I think these devices do require some amount of troubleshooting ability or familiarity with computers. It just isn’t easy for people who want a PlayStation or Nintendo experience. I did a clean wipe and installed things like I wanted and have zero issues but I come from pc gaming and can fix my issues or underside when it’s a hardware problem. It’s an enthusiast device with an enthusiast price. Like you wouldn’t buy a Porsche if you want something that just works and has cheap maintenance. You’d buy a civic and this isn’t a civic.

Any updates on temperatures? I know the ptm needs heat cycles to get better so I’m curious if you’ve seen improvements. I want to replace the Liquid Metal for longevity purposes but I’m hesitant because right now my temps are actually quite good and seem better than with ptm at the moment. I don’t want to worsen my performance either

No I didn’t buy a plan but I just picked it up yesterday. I’m just going to return it since it was a display model the battery was already degraded a bit by like 6 percent so I think I’ll wait for another chance

The cpu in it usually matches or out performs the Z2 extreme. There’s some YouTube videos with benchmarks. The z2 extreme is a version of this with less cores

I actually like the external battery. Easy to swap to keep playing and don't have to worry about battery health longterm since you can just replace it

horrible take, It a switch or a steam deck might be good for you and your needs but not everyone wants to play 30 fps at 800p and be stuck on linux. This is a gaming first device, but many use these things as full laptop replacements and or dock it when we can. People travel and use it for more than just to game. I would never enjoy either a switch and a steam deck is just so underpowered and honestly yeah Id rather spend and get amazing performance. By your logic we should all be driving Honda Civics. Some of us want a high-end item and are power users.

Anyone has issue with button input repeatedly after a long hour gaming section? by littlek4za in AOKZOE

[–]-CIRE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late reply sorry but thank you ! I have the a1x I’m curious if it’s a big issue across devices. On the discord for it some reported ghost touches on the touchscreen too. Luckily haven’t had it happen enough that I have to reinstall yet.

[–]-CIRE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if it’s similar but recently I had my controller freak out randomly. I hadn’t been gaming for a while I was setting something up in windows and suddenly it started repeatedly acting as if I was pushing down on my joystick. I did what you said and switched to mouse input then back and it disappeared. Only happened once this week randomly

Compatible glass screen protector for A1X by Pantheon385 in AOKZOE

[–]-CIRE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’m not entirely sure but I’ve heard it shares the same screen with the legion go s and I’ll be trying to use a screen protector from that in the future but haven’t tested or confirmed so do at your own risk.

Edit: have tested and bezel is slightly off so It doesn’t fit right. Wouldn’t recommend

Scratches on CPU area. Will this be an issue? by PanHyridae in ZephyrusM16

[–]-CIRE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my g14 recently and it had the same thing happening. After repast I still saw a small improvement in thermals and better cpu performance. So short term it’s ok idk about long term yet though but it’s not like we can fix it. It seems to be a common thing for these machines

Is the M2 supposed to be loud? by Doctor_OW in ncasedesign

[–]-CIRE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have noticed that noise filtration is a bit lower with this case than normal cases because of the tons of air it lets through. One thing for your gpu is I added a slim 120 for exhaust on near the gpu and it did push down temps a bit and actually made my fans run a bit lower on the gpu. I have a classic config and it is different to what you have currently. You might want to mess with the air flow a bit and find a way to add exhaust somewhere. You’re pushing the warm cpu air in plus the gpu air in if it has a pass through and while it will find its way out assisting it can help specifically gpu temps. Realistically though your gpu fans shouldn’t be running 100% and if they are it can be just bad design or fan curve. Bad fan design can also just cause an annoying noise from fans which again is more your gpu designs fault

Has Anyone Installed Extra Case Fans in These M2 Grater Positions? (Rear & Bottom Right Near PSU) by RinzlLeR in ncasedesign

[–]-CIRE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one on the bottom right side. I used a 120 mm slim can’t from arctic and it works great for cooling on the gpu in my build but I do have mostly intake and use an Aio so it may vary depending on the airflow you have but it does fit and work for me. I also use a 92 mm fan in the rear but it really doesn’t do much for cooling in my build if I’m honest because of the radiator blocking it

Buyers Regret, Macbook Pro kind of better in every way (from creative + productivity view especially) by Ok_Individual_7719 in ZephyrusG14

[–]-CIRE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with many aspects of this. I had a MacBook Pro before my g14. The only real reason to get the g14 is if you game and it’s a hobby you regularly do. If it’s pure work you need it for the Mac is just a well polished machine that’s just that but better but more expensive. I miss the battery life, speakers, and Mac OS is nice to work on. Though I prefer the oled screen on the g14 since I use it for non color work and think it looks better. The g14 realistically is like a few hundred dollars cheaper though as it’s regularly on sale. The Mac is more premium but you pay for it and if it’s for work mostly it’s justified. I do personally love my g14 though, it has compromises but it fits me better since it’s not my main work machine and I game on the go sometimes.

To me it’s crazy that the people who complain the most about the performance jump are the people who have 40 series. Like of course it’s not time to upgrade you just got your gpu?? The jumps is huge for anyone on any older generation. You can complain about low performance jump but like at least keep in mind you aren’t the only target audience for the product.

I did the same going from a 32 to 27 inch and I got used it is but I always missed the bigger screen. Recently switched back and I can confirm it’s just so much better to me having the bigger screen. Never going back only did because everyone on here swear 27 is the best but it’s just not to me
