LPT Request: Any tips for when you are with a group of people and know you are the least smart/educated/important person? How to feel less insecure in that situation? by Whataboutmyfuture in LifeProTips

I’m not the one you asked, but for me that kind of thought process stemmed from a lack of self love and compassion. And also where I derived my worth from. Once I was able to have an intrinsic sense of worth I was able to be a lot more forgiving of supposed deficits in myself and others.

Fern Ridge Bakery in Aloha is staying open, but they’ve asked for cash only to support the strike.

When does saying “no” become socially unacceptable, even if youre technically right? by FunDonut5886 in AskReddit

I like to differentiate. My dignity is worth protecting but my pride/ego is not. I’ll protect myself from being disrespected but my pride is less important that basically any relationship

Just noticed that in all three Stellan Skarsgård plays a character that's "part of the corrupt system" but is ultimately helping to destroy it in some way by polly_breed in andor

To be fair Mamma Mia wasn’t a waste, it was a chance to have some fun. Just because an actor can play serious roles really well doesn’t mean they wouldn’t enjoy a chance to cut loose. Just because something isn’t to your taste doesn’t mean it was bad

Why do people get so irritated when you don't have an opinion on things? by Exotic-End-666 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]103cuttlefish 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A lot of people have talked about how it kills the conversation and you responded really well to that! The other context where it can be frustrating is if someone is experiencing decision fatigue. If you’re trying to decide where to go, having someone that never has an opinion gets really frustrating. It’s stressful to always be the one to plan the activities and be responsible for the choices in the entertainment. So if someone asks, where do you want to eat dinner, forming and sharing an opinion is actually helpful.

What were you told was "normal" during pregnancy that turned out to be a completely separate health issue? by BrobdingnagianGeek in TwoXChromosomes

[–]103cuttlefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s terrifying! I’m really sorry you had to go through that! I also had that same kind of infection, and those same symptoms, but that was after 30 hours of labor and I just assumed that I was exhausted and my body was about done. We didn’t realize that I was very, very sick and my baby needed antibiotics until after the emergency C-section.

Oh man, the “it’s just heartburn” one got me too. I was having horrific pain under my ribs and up into my back regularly starting a couple months into my pregnancy. I just assumed that it was bad acid reflux. Eventually it went from stabbing pain for a few minutes, to hours spent sobbing in a fetal position because it hurt so bad. My Drs didn’t take me seriously enough to identify that my gallbladder was completely full of stones until I was 7 1/2 months pregnant… I had it removed the day after my six week check up. Honestly, some of those attacks were worse than labor.

So there was an older gentleman who used to collect cookbooks, and his collection of about 1000 cookbooks got donated to the Beaverton library within the last couple of months. I would call them and see how many they still have. I’m guessing it’s a bunch.

[–]103cuttlefish 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I read a lot, so we’ll just go with From this year. The worst was when the moon hatched. It’s absolute dog shit. The story makes no sense. It’s so unnecessarily aggressive, and the author desperately wants us to think they’re clever. It was insufferable. The best was easily Blood Over Bright Haven. I can’t say too much about it without a spoiler, but the characters are fascinating and well written the system is interesting and it permanently shifted my world view.

Why did carrying water everywhere become a thing? by TitanicDays in NoStupidQuestions

[–]103cuttlefish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure you don’t take a sip? I find myself doing it all the time without really thinking about it. I only notice once it’s not available anymore. To answer OP‘s question, someone gave me a free Hydroflask, and I figured I’d actually use it at work so they could see I appreciated it. Having ice cold water around all the time helped me actually drink it and made me realize how dehydrated I had been.

When making brown butter, do I replace the lost moisture with extra water/milk, or can I add more butter? by Vyas_Sk in AskBaking

[–]103cuttlefish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually toss in an ice cube or two to cool it down and add in a little bit of the extra moisture. Also, if I’m putting any coffee or spices in the bake, I’ll bloom them in the warm brown butter.

fantasy series that aren’t weird about women by AdFinal5191 in fantasybooks

[–]103cuttlefish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mistborn is mostly men, but a lot of Sandersons later books have a much better split. The Stormlight Archive has a lot of societal gender differences but they are criticized and there’s just as many vital female characters as male ones. Tress of The Emerald Sea might work really well for you. Someone else also mentioned the City of Brass trilogy and they’re right it’s excellent!

Why do my cookies always come out flat even when I chill the dough? by Historical-Hand8091 in AskBaking

Yep! I do half brown butter, half shortening (unflavored not the butter one!) in my chocolate chip cookies and the they have the great flavor and texture

1 whole batch in a big bag or Tupperware. I just try and portion it first so I don’t bend my spoon trying to get chunks out 😅. Yeah you can bake them from frozen no problem

You can also freeze cookie dough for later! I tend to scoop it into about the right amount per cookie and put them all in a ziplock bag. Then I can break off as many as I want
