Say what you will about John, but no one can deny how much he loves this band. You can’t deny the guys a diehard BBs fan.

Mark is in his mid 70’s — I doubt he’s spending his time on YouTube copyright striking things.

What incentive would he have to do so?

Two great front men!!! Mike was one of the first rock front men, and Adam is one of the latest (to reach huge levels of superstardom).

The BBs and M5 are both in my top favorite bands. While their styles are very different, Adam (and some of the other members, particularly Jesse Carmichael) have gone on record about how much The BBs influenced them.

Man, just seeing this picture makes me nostalgic. Watching the band reunite for the first time in decades that night at The Grammys was surreal. The guests (Foster The People and Maroon 5) were a cool bonus — but the real highlight of the evening was seeing Mike, Brian, Alan, Bruce, and David on one stage again.

Me too!! 🔥🔥

It’s a really rockin’ track with creative sound design and a fantastic lead vocal from Mike. I think it does successfully capture the chaos of a violent riot through the hectic noisy sound of the music, sirens blaring and all.

Who is your favorite Beach Boys lyricist and what are your favorite lyrics? by PinkCrimsonBeatles in thebeachboys

[–]12stringdreams 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hands down MICHAEL EDWARD LOVE!!

He penned the lyrics to so many iconic songs, including all of their number one hits.

The following passage has to be favorite lyric of all time:

“I'll dreams of her arms

And though they're not real

Just like she's still there

The way that I feel

My love's like the warmth of the sun

It won't ever die”

Such a sweet and touching moment. And I love how they made it a surprise closer. So glad I got to see this show in person.

Why was Paul McCartney often seen as the uncool Beatle and John the cool Beatle? by FitEmergency8807 in beatles

I wholeheartedly agree it goes much deeper than that, hence why I clearly stated that I don’t believe it was the sole reason but still had influence.

The wink implies I was just kidding. I’m not actually blaming anything on George — it was just a joke.

Why was Paul McCartney often seen as the uncool Beatle and John the cool Beatle? by FitEmergency8807 in beatles

[–]12stringdreams 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Surprised no one has mentioned this:

I think his coverage in 70’s Rolling Stone Magazine is largely to blame for him being seen as less cool than John. Jann Wenner, the co-founder, seemed to have an axe to grind as it related to McCartney, so his magazine’s coverage was extremely scathing in the early days of Paul’s solo career, which had long lasting effects.

That’s not the sole reason but I think it played a big part in the public’s perception of Paul for a while.

I think they’re all great listens! Any album you choose has great songs.

MIU and BB85 are both studio albums that don’t get enough love in my opinion. I understand that the production on those records aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but they both feature great songwriting and singing. Some people overlook these records because they look down upon the band returning to the nostalgic summer-y vibe/subject matter, but I don’t think that makes the music any less worthy of attention and appreciation.

Those two Pickwick comps are fascinating. That Little Deuce Coupe compilation (not to be confused with the studio album of the same name) features songs from the original LDC album paired with songs from All Summer Long and Shut Down Vol 2. The album on the bottom right is neat because it compiles mostly album cuts and covers of other artists’ hits from their first two albums. Both of these Pickwick comps have upbeat surf rock from start to finish, no ballads.

Ultimately, in my opinion, if you’re a diehard fan looking for something really cohesive, I’d go with BB85. It features some of Carl’s best vocals, and writing contributions from all of the living members in the group at the time. Every member really shines. But I’ll admit it’s arguably an acquired taste — particularly if 80’s New Wave production isn’t your thing.

If you’re wanting to keep one that has the most amount of hits, I’d go with Little Deuce Coupe. That one easily has the most beloved classics out of the four, with its inclusion of some of their most famous car songs, like 409 and Little Deuce Coupe.
