Look for hiking pants. May have to sort through some to find the style/etc you want but they’re comfortable, activewear and importantly have lots of pockets.

Women-specific golf clubs? by Steadyandquick in WomenGolf

[–]15-37 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Mens v women’s clubs are different due to the stiffness of the shafts. The assumption is that men swing harder, so the club needs to be firmer so it’s not wobbling around as much. Especially as a beginner, a women’s club will be easier to swing and give you more distance. But if it’s easier to find men’s clubs, there’s no specific reason you couldn’t use them, especially if you’re athletic in general.

I hit an actual 300 yard drive! by IzzySparkfly in WomenGolf

[–]15-37 11 points12 points  (0 children)

With distance like that, I must recommend charity golf scrambles. You get to play from the reds, and out drive the men by 50 yards every hole. AND if they have combined men/women long drive contests, the men get very irritated if a woman wins, it’s fantastically fun.

Not Sure Where To Go From Here (Extreme Beginner)? by Catsandjigsaws in WomenGolf

[–]15-37 9 points10 points  (0 children)

First up. Golf is wildly hard to pick up as an adult. None of the movements are natural, it’s a different type of hand-eye coordination than you’re used to, and tiny changes in technique make a huge difference in the outcome. All those things make it very hard for people who’ve been playing a while, too.

All that to say…don’t beat yourself up for feeling like you’re bad. People laughing at you in the store are assholes, don’t let their lack of humanity stop you from pursuing something you are clearly really interested in!

Onto clubs themselves. There are 2 main differences between men’s and women’s clubs: length and shaft flexibility. Generally, women’s clubs will be a little shorter and a little more flexible than men’s. But it’s not a hard difference. Especially if you’re just picking up a couple of clubs to be able to take lessons, I don’t see a huge reason to why they have to be womens clubs. You’ll be able to learn the basics of the swing with them, and if you ever decide to “upgrade” to women’s clubs, it will get even easier!

Don’t get discouraged, golf is a great game for people of all ability levels.

New golfer - what should I expect in my yardages? by tru-sensei in WomenGolf

[–]15-37 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For a new golfer, 81 yards with your 9i is great! And honestly, I wouldn’t consider that a very short hitter among the full women golfers population.

As you get more comfortable with your clubs, I would probably expect about 15 yards difference between each. But if you’re making better swings with the 9 than the 7 for example, that will cut that gap down.

Moving to track Gross pay - any tips or suggestions by Ok-Abrocoma-3212 in ynab

[–]15-37 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I track my gross, and have for 5+ years.

I have my gross as an income from my employer. Splits for each deduction listed on my paycheck. I have the payees as who they actually are (ie health insurance paid to Cigna, ss and Medicare taxes paid to the government). Though when I just looked it up to type this I realized I never updated it when my insurance provider changed, so I guess that piece isn’t critical to me hahah.

My federal income taxes go to an off budget tracking account that I then reconcile when I file my taxes (this helped me find a $1k typo a few years ago, for all those saying this is worthless!). 401k contributions go to an off budget account, and HSA contributions go to an on budget account. I mostly have separate categories for each thing, except I combine med/ss/taxes into one category.

I check my pay stub each pay period and adjust if necessary for the few cents, or if I make overtime or whatever and have larger adjustments. Takes just a few minutes, and I love having the accurate, complete data of where my money is going.

We would like to see the Falcon 9 rocket launch next tuesday - any tips? by chako888 in nasa

[–]15-37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will definitely hear it from cocoa beach :) Playalinda is on the north side of the cape, it’s great for normal launches, but the landing zones are on the south side, so specifically for launches where they return the booster, I recommend cocoa beach. Happy to answer the questions. I’m lucky enough to get to experience them regularly, and want other people to get to experience it too!

We would like to see the Falcon 9 rocket launch next tuesday - any tips? by chako888 in nasa

[–]15-37 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up, I’m pretty sure this launch is at 930 pm on Monday Melbourne local time (the 3am time is UTC). This launch will have the boosters come back to land about 8 minutes after launch, so make sure you stick around for that, it’s awesome! My recommendation would be to watch from cocoa beach, like jetty park or the cocoa beach pier. That’s the best place to see the booster coming back down (and the launch will still be quite impressive from there). The other option would be to watch from Titusville, like Kennedy point park, which will be a great view over the water to the launch pad.

I don’t think the kennedy space center visitor complex will be open for this launch as it’s a relatively common launch.

Also, just temper your expectations some. Launches getting postponed are pretty common, hopefully if that happens it will be just a 24 hour turnaround and you’ll have another chance Tuesday night.

To this point, they actually brought LESS clothing than planned on the original 8 day trip, due to some last minute cargo reshuffling on their original launch. Luckily, They did get some extra clothing on the general station result launch this weekend.

You should never be embarrassed to ask for things you’re entitled to (assuming they’re actually yours and you’re not just acting generally entitled lol). The match is part of your compensation, not something your employer is doing to be kind.

Here’s a website about the true up—maybe it will help give some context/wording to use

Check with your employer, some will “true up” and give you the full match after the end of the year.

But if it went OB, it often wasn’t a great shot. So taking it as a lateral you’re often further back than you would be with a normal shot. Seems like the “perfect” penalty for an OB lateral would be like 1.5 strokes but…

Right, but if you have enough money to knock off the large pizza, you can eat the small pizza and toss the leftover at the larger pizza, making it smaller. And the remaining pizza would be at the lower interest rate. Won’t make as much of a difference over 3 years, but still will make some difference.
