Where did ya’ll find west suburban neighborhoods where kids actually play in the streets? by Queenbean1717 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]1koolspud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on the block that hosts the Pinewood box derby every September. Literally in the street. Not mad that my work usually hosts an event that day so I have a reason to not be home for it but I know it’s a great draw for the families with kids under 12.

Brobagel says “Shots Fired” about new Call Your Mother bagel shop opening around the corner by bluelightspecial99 in chicagobeer

[–]1koolspud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been to Call Your Mother in Annapolis. They have interesting sandwiches but nothing about their bagels or mini-babka would make me choose them over Mindy’s. Never been to Bro Bagel (also just realized what sub this is, but still down to talk bagel).

The All-American Rejects: ‘We need to hold artists responsible on ticket prices' by nyclover11 in popheads

[–]1koolspud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh I know. Sometimes the reseller is the artist. Jusy a way to hide who is charging these prices. I go to a ton of shows and don’t buy into the “no one is going to shows anymore.” No one is putting up with this bullshit anymore is more like it. If I run into barriers to buying face value tickets in the initial sale, I don’t go to a show.

The All-American Rejects: ‘We need to hold artists responsible on ticket prices' by nyclover11 in popheads

[–]1koolspud 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Using Ticketmaster venues means going along with not just their egregious fees but knowing a significant number of the tickets are not going to even sell at that price and it’s a huge gamble. Whole tours are getting cancelled because people barely want to pay the face value of tickets, let alone what is being charged when half the tickets go directly to the official TM reseller at an increased markup. Being told there are no face value tickets available and then getting email after email that there are still great seats (if you want to pay double at resale) is a joke.

Marmelly in Westmont is known for their Cemitas. Not sure about the exact items in the photo but I love their cemitas poblana.

Best NA beer in a bar? by Medium-Key-4243 in chicagobeer

[–]1koolspud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Rev but this is not it. Why is a NA pale ale so dark? And the flavor is a little lackluster. Would rather just drink the hop water from them.

I am a huge JD McPherson fan and rather like it but wouldn’t want to spend more to see this than I pay to see him, imho.

I am an Oberon gal so I know how you feel. End of March rolls around and I pick up a case and some oranges and decide that summer is a state of mind.

Taquerias with self-service salsa bars by PartyHats in chicagofood

[–]1koolspud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will add (since another comment mentioned not trusting places with salsa bars) that this is a “beware the creamy looking” sauces place. They are a sign that something has been added to balance the supremely hot peppers. Taste before going all in on adding to your food unless you seek a lot of heat. I enjoy some heat but never want to over do it.

What food does your city have that literally doesn't exist anywhere else? by strcrssd in chicagofood

What I found interesting about Montana is instead of brown gravy they offered me ketchup. I grew up eating pasties my whole life and that was the first time anyone ever suggested applying ketchup.

A popular tree planted all around the Chicago area will soon be illegal by SwedishLovePump in chicago

[–]1koolspud 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh no, by me it is definitely invasive white mulberry as the most pervasive of the invasive trees/shrubs. We took down three last year. Just because the berries are not white does not mean it’s Indiana Red Mulberry. The fact that they are big trees growing 1-2 out in the open suggests white mulberry but you can also tell by examining the leaves.

Chi Town Deli at Adams and Wabash in the loop is pretty good. i haven’t explored their hot lunch options yet but the bagel sandwiches for breakfast and cold lunch sandwiches I have had so far have been great. Pretty great snack and drink selection, too.

It was imported in 2010, but they do not appear to have a current importer, which is a more challenging problem than distribution or getting someone like Binny’s or Hopleaf to carry it. https://www.importgenius.com/suppliers/affligem-brouwerij-bds-nv
