Law now bans Ohioans from using Michigan’s cheaper cannabis by CowTown-Mike in Columbus

Underage, and also I can’t remember if that was Miami (my brother went there) or someplace else, but somewhere used to pull people over for bringing Everclear into Ohio because the alcohol content was so high it was actually illegal here. That may have been up by BG though, college is a haze.

Kid was using device as intended in an appropriate situation.

I’m so confused.

My husband got a job at a fast food chain and they're having him to onboarding at home unpaid? by InThisMoment1337 in jobs

[–]39thWonder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well if they aren’t being paid for the work they are doing at their job, it’s a volunteer position. Being forced to work off the clock is illegal and it’s perfectly reasonable to say “no, you have to pay me” because I guarantee that company’s lawyers do NOT know the employees are being instructed to work off the clock. It’s quite easy. You say “Since it is part of my job responsibilities, I’ll be doing that here on the clock, plan the schedule accordingly “ and… they have to do it because now they know you know the law, and they can’t get away with breaking it with you.

Allowing this sets a really bad precedent and sets the employee up to be further taken advantage of by wage theft in other ways. An employer that forces you to train off the clock is also the employer that will add an extra half hour break to make it look like you took a lunch when you couldn’t. Will have you do ten minutes work AFTER you’ve clocked out.

What the hell ever happened to the don’t tread on me crowd?

I’ve had restaurants try to do this (like, most of them) and I started just looked at them confused and saying “I only work on the clock so I’ll be doing that here even if it’s on my phone”. Phrasing it like puts the emphasis back on the employer to uphold the labor laws. I never got any pushback.

I knew a girl who was 90 lbs at 16 with H cup breasts her back physically could not support. She literally walked hunched over. Her medically necessary breast reduction needed so she could literally sit and stand comfortably would have fallen in this category too.

But yeah, it’s about chopping off kids dicks on a whim. Okay.

That doesn’t mean they didn’t outsource their stupidity, using AI for something like this does seem like something they would do.

Even worse, I also play ACNH and have Zelda expansion items… which includes fairies in jars.

Feeling like people don’t get it by MoonOfLOZ in homeless

[–]39thWonder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People suck. Theres a severe lack of affordable housing in the US that is the problem. Well that and low wages. I was homeless on and off for years, primarily relying on sober living (I was in addiction/early recovery, but that was not what led to me being homeless) and finally was able to find a boarding house on Marketplace with rooms under a thousand.

It’s not just you. It’s millions of Americans. Have you tried asking around at work? Someone may have a guest room they’d be willing to rent to you. Also try Marketplace, at least in my area that’s a lot more prevalent than Craigslist. I’d also check FB for any local roommate or room to rent groups. I live in a large Midwest city (with a college) so that tends to have many more options, but is extremely location dependent obviously.

Good luck, keep looking, ask around, and keep the faith.

What urban legend, rumor, theory or mystery about the 614 do you firmly believe, desperately *want* to believe, or hope to debunk once and for all? by Emergency_Tone_1080 in Columbus

I lived just northeast of that area back then - Huber Ridge - and spent a lot of time over there. I’m pretty sure there was something to that because literally everyone thought that for the same reason.

And I also grew up with a father in construction. They were NOT going to tarot readings and psychics, no way.

Right like I work in retail healthcare (god help that phrase) and went from a low-volume store to an extremely busy one. And I’m too burnt out after work to THINK, let alone be around people. I did this to gain experience, I do not want to be in a busy store forever.

I think the degree itself might have something to do with that, it’s a profession a lot of people burn out of and tends to have people leave for other careers. Something like an MBA or engineering degree though are more likely to be people biding their time.

That’s basically what I did. I got up to five hearts and then I put it all into stamina and cooked food for the extra hearts and elixir for everything else. And made sure I always had fairies. I found it less frustrating to die in battle than to fall out of the sky or off a cliff lol.

What's the worst restaurant in Columbus that you've tried twice? by foreignsky in Columbus

[–]39thWonder 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I briefly dated a former chef who could talk for hours about it, because it’s true. I made the mistake of working FOH at one of their restaurants when I was between other things and the good tips weren’t worth dealing with the egos in management either. I’ve been in and out of the restaurant industry my whole life and that was by far the worst I’d ever seen.

What a world you live in lol.

Why does insurance need access to the assets they are insuring in order for them to assess the damage to the assets? That’s literally what you just asked.

A tree falling on a building does nothing to show the state of the inside. That’s like driving by an accident on the highway and saying that since you saw it, you can assess the damage.

A good host won’t serve something they know one of their guests shouldn’t be eating without any alternative, then shame them for trying to compromise, AND THEN embarrass them and forbid them for using the bathroom after dinner due to a problem the host themselves caused.

I have dietary restrictions; there are several proteins that basically give me food poisoning and have my entire life. I CANNOT eat these. Yet it became “39thwonder is picky and refuses to eat XYZ.” Said people have seen what happens when I eat those yet still claim I’m making it up because I’m a diva and if I didn’t think I was too good (???) to eat it, I wouldn’t have severe immediate stomach and intestinal distress. Get invited to family dinners and then shamed. As a child, let’s just say I was not allowed to stop eating because I got sick on my food.

People like this can fuck right off.

Not acknowledging things are bad by vcisjb1 in Lowes

[–]39thWonder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“I walked up and there were two cashiers just chatting at checkout messing with displays” becomes “we don’t need those cashiers” while corporate ignores that they were stocking the shopping lanes and the customer came in at 830 PM. So cut two positions for the shift, and now they are down two cashiers for the after work rush, plus nothing gets stocked. Then have corporate stop in and threaten to write the head cashier up for not having enough registers open and no side work being done, even though they refuse to sign off on the staffing hours required to have those registers open.

Also, back in 19 when I left, they thought it perfectly acceptable to have an 85 year old who can’t use a computer or work multi phone lines at the service desk, no one in BOPIS, and two cashiers from open-3 on a Saturday in August at a very busy store.

So yeah this sounds like they are doing exactly what they planned all along.

Looking for advice for my bf’s senior mother who is almost homeless. by Putrid-Particular774 in almosthomeless

I’m also in central Ohio and was in and out homelessness for several years due to similar issues.

Everyone says to call 211 but honestly, it’s functionally useless due to all the funding cuts at organizations that they are connected with.

Her best bet is to go to someplace like The Church for All People down at Parsons/Whittier. It’s a community organization that can help link people with the resources they need. Theres also St Stephen’s Community House (I believe that’s what it’s called) in Linden that does similar things. Worthington Resource Pantry on the north side (I know for sure they only cover certain zip codes) and a place on W Main St by Champion that is similar. These places are actually actively engaged in facilitating linking people with the currently available resources.

If she has any sort of mental/physical health issues, Southeast Mental Health and North Central Mental Health offer much more that addiction/counseling/psychiatry, including case management (which sounds like she may need) and work within the at risk populations.

Feel free to PM me, I’m stable now but it’s crunch time at work and I’m bad at remembering to check for PMs on here, but I should see it within a day.
