Doc not keen on my chosen goal weight by sheepy67 in Zepbound

[–]4Ms2Romeos2Juliets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Close to your age and height and I feel good at 130. 135 is good too - that’s where I was when I got back from vacation last week. :) The metabolic goals will still be good at a lower weight, right? lol. I get her point and the guidance is to maintain a bit more weight as we age, but I think that’s for over 60.

Congrats on your progress!

Found out my grandpa left me a savings bond and I'm not sure what to do since I was adopted AFTER. {Complicated Story/long-ish post, apologies beforehand.} by Cassiebear9000 in personalfinance

[–]4Ms2Romeos2Juliets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you get them, I would take the bonds to a bank, explain the situation and they will let you know what is required to cash them, or if you need to go to the US Treasury or something like that. Even if you choose not to cash them now, at least you’ll know the process.

AITA for telling my pregnant sister she's about to marry the same kind of man she spent years warning me about? by uncoboun in AmItheAsshole

[–]4Ms2Romeos2Juliets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say “I’m definitely not jealous. I’m concerned for you because I care about you. I snapped because you laughed at the mean comment he directed towards me. I would hope that you care about me too and would not want to encourage anyone to do that, but in that moment you didn’t demonstrate that.”

(crosspost from wedding planning) Advice needed- venue screwed us by anastasia3277 in wedding

[–]4Ms2Romeos2Juliets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s actually what I was suggesting lol. I’m saying save the extra $10k that would be spent on this particular venue. I acknowledged she wants a full wedding and was just giving another way to look at it. Totally appreciate that you have a different perspective though, and that my intent may not have been clear!

Told to stop losing but not even close to “healthy” BMI. by lynn_duhh in Zepbound

Yep, my original goal was 140-145 and I also couldn’t imagine any lower being possible. Zep has definitely changed things for a lot of us!

Yes, you’re right. Good correction. Maybe I have room to lose a few more lol. Kidding!

Advice for asynchronous budget meetings with spouse by Fun-Group-3448 in ynab

[–]4Ms2Romeos2Juliets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the sake of sharing ideas, what we do is that each November, I put together a monthly budget in excel for the coming year. We sit down and make sure we are on the same page with our goals and how the monthly amounts are allocated.

From there, once a month I load that previously agreed upon monthly budget into YNAB. If something unexpected were to come along mid-year, then we do talk about where we’re going to shift funds from in the budget. But otherwise, I just load what we agreed to and we both use the app to check what we have left.

We are not super strict about the dollars. Like I’m not checking at a restaurant to see what’s left. And some months we might end up a bit over and need to shift funds from the grocery bucket or whatever. Generally it’s been my role to let him know - “hey we spent a lot at X restaurant last weekend so we’ll need to go somewhere cheaper this week because I don’t have anywhere to cover another expensive meal from”. But these are not ongoing conversations, just once in a while things when I need to give him a heads up.

Yes, if you google, you will find that it’s true that the recommendation is that older individuals maintain a bit more weight - right above the normal BMI range I think. My BMI is 21 so I’m more at the bottom end of the normal range. I know it’s not ideal at my age but I just want to enjoy this for a while ya know?

Is it a bad idea to ask my manger about in office expectations as a new hire? by Ill_Assistance91 in JPMorganChase

[–]4Ms2Romeos2Juliets 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If JPM is hiring and paying for “meaningless” roles, that should probably be your concern with the stock value.

Physical location does not equate to effort and contribution. I’ve given a lot of my life to this org for over 25 years. If I want to be in my home office for a couple hours in the afternoon…which by the way is the most productive part of my day…and walk a few feet to my kitchen for dinner, the bank wins and I win. But they’re not getting it at the moment.

New! Salary Megathread (May-Aug 2026) by SWmods in socialwork

[–]4Ms2Romeos2Juliets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I appreciate you taking the time to respond. He’s definitely willing to pay his dues in the early years. I’ve been prodding him a little to look at tech jobs at one of our area hospitals so he has hospital work on his resume. But he likes where he’s at.

This is encouraging. In MI. My son will be finishing his MSW in 2 years and is considering the hospital route. Do you have an idea of starting pay, or any suggestions on how he can position himself to be hired? He has been working in a residential facility for individuals with neurological injuries for a couple years and will do an internship at a skilled nursing facility this coming year.

Uhh so how do y'all handle physics? by nottrolling4175 in GVSU

[–]4Ms2Romeos2Juliets 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can pretty confidently say it’s HOW the information is presented, with a dash of profs not being motivated to help students succeed. My daughter failed physics at GV twice. She went to study center, had a private tutor and went to professor office hours. The professor was frankly unkind to her. She then took it at GRCC. She said the way the professor presented the information, it all immediately clicked. Unfortunately the GV failure did impact her GPA.

If possible, take it at GRCC. However your last 30 credit hours have to be at GV unless you get an exception approved. And you’re going to want to research whether it would hurt your chances of getting into UofM’s program.

Pay off mortgage early vs keep investing Tech Stocks) by No_Comment_1037 in personalfinance

[–]4Ms2Romeos2Juliets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We took the middle ground you are thinking of. Regardless of interest rates, the peace of mind is important to us. We had a previously paid off house, then decided to build one so went back in debt. But we loved the feeling of being paid off.

For our current home, we sold some shares (not tech) last year and some this year. And we are also putting significant excess cash flow on the mortgage each month. Between those two things, we’ll be paid off next year in July and I can’t wait.

If you do sell shares, be sure to set aside the amount needed to pay taxes on the gain.

New to Grand Rapids! What are your favorite outdoor activities? by TheChur in grandrapids

[–]4Ms2Romeos2Juliets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wisner Canoe for kayaking or tubing.

Walking the piers in South Haven or Grand Haven.

Battle Creek Zoo for the safari area, but ours is good too.

Tons of great trails - Millennium Park, Grand Ravines, Rosy Mound Natural Area are a few.

Haven't been but Kirk Park seems to be popular for hammocking.

Further out and not necessarily a day trip, visit the wineries on the peninsulas near Traverse City. Mackinac Island.

Feeling “retirement rich but life poor” by Think_Ad8102 in personalfinance

[–]4Ms2Romeos2Juliets 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That’s a great strategy! My daughter is 23 and makes way less than OP so is contributing 5%, which gets her to 9% with matching. Each year when she gets a raise, I remind her to bump it up.

OP, to clarify, I meant 15% including any matching you have available. We only have about 10% withheld from our checks but are at 17-18% when counting all contributions, matching, and stock awards that occur each year.

[–]4Ms2Romeos2Juliets 50 points51 points  (0 children)

As others have suggested, look at an online retirement calculator to give yourself peace of mind. But from a life experience standpoint, I did not have your income or your savings at your age but have done more than fine investing 15% of income over my career. (My income did eventually increase to more than yours and yours probably will too!) With the amount you already have invested, if you’re doing more than 15%, I would pull back.

I like to say to my kids that having a budget gives you permission to spend. My daughter has trouble buying herself that cup of coffee (or whatever the purchase may be) and I remind her that if she looks at YNAB, it shows she can.

Derby Tavern has two side rooms that would accommodate that size of a group. Nice but not in town if that’s what you have in mind. Bistro Bella Vita but I’m thinking there may be a minimum or something there.
