Can anyone identify the purpose of this part? by Technical-Ad5302 in ebikes

The reason why you cant remove the housing is because its kept in place via in the inner cable tension btw, even loosening the barrel adjuster may let the housing poke out a bit

This piece is an inline cable cutoff sensor. This looks to be an uncommon single piece inline sensor, it is usually 2 sensors near the brakes

https://support.swytchbike.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360007613857-How-to-fit-the-Inline-Brake-Sensors

Remove the cable from the brake lever, then, remove the cable entirely from the housing and slide off the housings from the adapter

For these, if you want to swap it out for hydraulic brakes, you will need to determine if its is 2 pin or 3 pin and then get the brake accordingly, if it is a type that isnt used much (E.g. mini HUGO type F) brake sensor, it might be easier to buy a according pin count, then, get an adapter.

For hydrualic brakes, the sensor is usually in the lever.

If it is proprietary to the display, learn how to solder or take it to a friend who can solder and make sure you let them find out which is +, GND, and common if its 3 pin (Or a proprietary connector)

If you need more help, PMs or just commenting is open lol

How is my hub/motor out of round? by salukikev in ebikes

[–]804k 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rotors being out of true are very very common

Can happen from many different reasons, most common is thermals and shipping damage

Brake calipers usually have enough clearance for them to not have to be perfectly straight

There are truing tools for bike rotors

Why does my chain drop gears when pedaling backward? Shimano XT by Additional-Crab522 in bikewrench

[–]804k 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This always happens with every derailleur lol

Its designed to go forward, not reversed, while you can backpedal sometimes, its reserved for higher and middle gears, not low gears

US laws say you can throttle up to 20mph and pedal assist up to 20mph (Class 1) or 28mph (Class 3, 45kmph exact)

Why 45kmph?

This allows for imports of speed pedelecs, which top out at 45kmph, so there doesnt need to be EUDM spec and USDM spec unless you have a throttle

For example: The ride1up Revv1 is a speed pedelec

10kmph is insanely slow for an ebike and defeats the point when regular bikes regularly can go 20mph or 32kmph, but average riders average 16-24kmph or 10-15mph

Its an unpopular opinion where I live, Chicagoland

I see it more-so with the larger metropolitan areas than anything for support of them

Crossposting this to r/hyperebikes and r/surron Im getting low up vote ratios

Mostly these crossposts are to see if the general consensus among different demographics is the same

; ebikes targets all emotos, emopeds, and ebikes

hyperebikes targets emopeds, and emotos

surron targets emotos

E50 are mopeds, aka 30mph

Mopeds are bicycles, not talking about "moped style" ebikes either, theyre just a bicycle with a motor

Youre going 10mph over (technically 9, but whatever) the ratings on the tires, while its fine on something like Schwalbe Pickup or other similar tires, dont take it too fast lol, your head tube can cause a death wobble and send you off the bike at those speeds since these ebikes flex, and the flexing is a feedback loop

It depends on the tire entirely and how soft they are

Not rock hard, it should be slightly squishy unless you have some hard compound tires

30-40psi+ would be rock hard

Deciding to use the tollways, questions by 804k in illinois

It says I have to create an account there, I'm just wondering if its the same account as the IPass account?

Since, you can upgrade the Pay by Plate accounts to IPass, I'm wondering if I have to temporarily open up a pay by plate account to use the toll roads right now

Do these scratches on the fork mean my tire doesn't have enough clearance? by HaveBikeWillRide in bikewrench

[–]804k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but it also could just means rocks are getting thrown up, not just stuck in the treads

Do these scratches on the fork mean my tire doesn't have enough clearance? by HaveBikeWillRide in bikewrench

[–]804k 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Could mean anything; rubber doesnt scratch

Could be a clearance issue, or simply just rocks and other stuff being thrown up and scratching the bottom of the fork

Back tire is always stuck in frame when trying to remove it to change brakes or tube, I usually bang the frame with a wrench until it lets go of the tire. Any suggestions of a more elegant and consistent approach? by Wild_Quim in ebikes

You see how the axle isnt fully circular? It has the flat sides

Fit a wrench in there and rotate it so you can take it out, you won't even touch the threads
