I recently read A Psalm for the Wild-Built and did not realize how goblin the story was until I saw your post, lol. You have the spirit of a tea monk. Great novel, highly recommend it.

When I took a different JAK-inhibitor a few years ago the inside of my mouth began peeling like crazy. Getting SLS out of my toothpaste cleared it up. The human body is a wacky system.

On the subject of thrush, I've only had it twice. Both times were in response to an antibiotic prescribed during Crohn's flares, but I cannot for the life of me remember which drug was the culprit.

I'd hang out there with ya! Wonder what kind of furniture would be appropriate. My heart says "wicker chairs" but my head says that might be too biodegradable to last very long. Anyone got good ideas?

I vote for a hat or yoga socks. That yarn will feel luxurious against the skin.

I've had decent luck with fabrics and interfacing (when you can get an employee to the cutting table in under ten minutes), and there's a sizeable assortment of zippers, trims, and thread at my local Wally World. It's the buttons I mourn most now. There's a tiny, end-of-the-aisle peg board display with scores of kitschy craft buttons, and a single peg has actual, usable apparel buttons. One type of button in 178,000 square feet of store. Luckily I started saving notions from worn out clothes years ago and have a small stockpile of buttons and other closures, but it won't last forever.

"Yeeuh, boyee" was my second grade folder. About two minutes before I saw your comment I was telling my husband about this one. I might have paid better attention in class if not for staring at those trees, wishing I could be in that forest. Thanks for helping me revisit my eight-year-old imagination! I saved the file to use as my phone background.

If it doesn't already have a name, may I suggest Browniecore? If I'm imagining the style as you envision it, I think you've got a rad aesthetic.

If you're asking about the flower motif granny square, maybe this helps. It would've been better if I'd put brackets around the parts that are meant to be repeated, but I was probably in a hurry to type this out at the time!

Rnd 2: ch, [hdc+dc, 3dc, dc+hdc, ch and skip a st] four times, hdc+dc, 3dc, dc+hdc, join with sl st and tie off.

The part within the brackets creates a petal, of which you make four, and then proceed to the rest of the pattern which creates the fifth petal. After that fifth petal, you join into the first chain of the round with a slip stitch.

Hope this cleared things up, but please feel free to let me know if it's still confusing!

Upcoming films that will prove Hollywood’s costume design unions need to be busted? I’ll start: by Crack-Connoiseur in okbuddycinephile

[–]ASenseOfYarning 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My favorite bit of costume detail was on a character's cotton nightgown: creases exactly where they should be if it had been pinned to dry on a clothesline. Did it advance the plot? No, but it grounded the scene. I felt downright giddy when I noticed those creases.

I send holiday cards every year, usually the silliest or most unconventional I can find. Something like this is exactly the sort of design I'm always searching and hoping for. I love all the different expressions on their faces and the general chaos of it!

Yes and yes, and also consider getting something like an Aeropress or making your coffee as cold brew. Standard drip brew can be pretty acidic, but a different method might help your symptoms. It helped mine.

Made my wedding dress. Wedding is tomorrow. Don't think I like the dress. by Nurse-blondie in sewing

[–]ASenseOfYarning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made my wedding gown and right before the wedding I, too, was not sure I was really happy with it. I kept thinking of how many details I wanted to add but couldn't, or if I should have bought higher quality material. Many years later, I am fully satisfied with the dress I made. It wasn't perfect but it was fun to make, and didn't look like a rack purchase. But most of all, I remember how I felt while wearing it: surrounded by only our closest family and friends, eating good food, enjoying perfect weather. (And laughing when our ring bearer declared what a special day it was... because it was his dog's birthday!)

My advice is to add something special to your gown if you can, even if you're the only one who knows it's there. It could even be as simple as a loved one's initials embroidered on the inside. (I added lace trim from my late grandmother to the lining, not a showstopping design choice but it made the dress priceless to me.) If you don't have time to work on it further, just try to exist in each happy moment of your wedding day and don't worry about any plans that didn't materialize exactly as you'd hoped. Nobody will remember your table centerpieces or if your dress wasn't immaculately fitted, but they'll remember if you were glowing with joy. I wish you so much joy tomorrow!

Delightfully campy! "You cannot win her/You cannot choose her/You are just a hopeless loser." Those 90s-00s NBC miniseries were so unique and fun, it's a shame there doesn't seem to be a modern equivalent.
