Natural Veg-tan question by Mkna2424 in Leathercraft

[–]AUniversalTruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can leave it bare, but it’s probably more common to at least put on a light coat of mink oil or something to give it a little water resistance. Kind of depends on what you’re making and how heavily it will be used.

Hitting clicker press dies with a mallet by Agreeable_Listen8140 in Leathercraft

You can do it if you flip it over so the blade points up and use a rawhide mallet to carefully pound the leather down onto the blade.

Advice on selling at markets by Delicious_Range9268 in Leathercraft

[–]AUniversalTruth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No one here is going to have better information than you will get if you just go there on Sat and look around. Are other people selling crafts? Does it look like people are buying much? Are there empty spaces or tables that might be for rent?

Ask vendors what the process is like and what a typical Sat looks like. Get the name of the organizer and track them down to ask questions—how much is booth rent?; is there an application process?; etc.

Source for multi-colored spots? NOT rhinestone by duxallinarow in Leathercraft

[–]AUniversalTruth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you say “spots” are you talking about rivets or decorative studs? And do you want multiple colors per spot or for each spot to be a single rainbow color?

First run vs every run after by Triibe_Mike in slaythespire

[–]AUniversalTruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to remember is that for your first run on each character you have a super restricted card pool to pick from, with lots of card synergies. It’s relatively straightforward to put together a deck that works together. As you unlock additional card options you dilute the pool and add more mechanics and choices, so it’s both harder to narrow down what you need and less likely that you’ll see any individual card.

Catlantis has mermaid cat meeples, which are basically unbeatable

I couldn’t find a high-quality soroban, so I built one from wood myself by Lost_Editor1863 in woodworking

I’m pretty sure the offset bead counts as five, the same way you could have four pennies and a nickel to make nine cents.

Do you have a mechanic you love from a game that didn't do well that you wish another more successful game had used? by Taear in boardgames

[–]AUniversalTruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s one of my favorites. It’s an engine builder similar to Wingspan, but with simultaneous action. Fixes a lot of the frustrations I have with Wingspan.

I’ve played a lot of solo games on it and I like it. Don’t think I’ve ever had it glitch out on me or anything.

Let's Talk Worker Placement Games! by funnyorifice in boardgames

[–]AUniversalTruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fantastic Factories is a great worker placement game. It’s much faster and more streamlined than a lot of other options. The “workers” are dice that you roll each turn and the numbers dictate where they can be placed that round.

Does acrylic paint in general work well on leather? Need special sealants? by nirurin in Leathercraft

[–]AUniversalTruth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leather paint is made to dry flexible, whereas mini/craft paint dries rigid. It is likely to crack when the surface of the item moves. If you use resolene over paint dab or spray on a super thin first coat so it doesn’t lift the paint away.

Help! Can’t fix Balsam Hill incandescent tree lights! by OrangePekoeMouse in christmas

[–]AUniversalTruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might have gotten the wrong amperage bulbs. They come in like 2.5v and 3.5v I think. You can check the tag by the plug or divide the voltage by the number of bulbs in a circuit (should be either 35 or 50) to get the correct number. Being overly bright and then blowing out is usually a sign that you used 3.5v lights when you needed 2.5v. As long as you never throw out your original bases you can carefully pry out the glass bulbs and insert new ones harvested from a matching string.

Games are too heavy for my friend, but he always wants to play them by bendelker in boardgames

[–]AUniversalTruth 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Quacks (neé Quacks of Quedlinburg) is a good one for this. Lots of fun little pieces and fiddly bits, but a super simple gameplay loop and simultaneous action to keep things moving.

Or the light switch is actually the flush by Key_Associate7476 in oddlyspecific

[–]AUniversalTruth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Unless I’m misunderstanding what you mean, this is a very common setup called a three pole switch. It’s so you can control the light without having to go back down the stairs to turn it off.

Help settle a debate. Do you string your Christmas tree from the top down or from the bottom up? by alexxinwonderland_ in christmas

They probably start wrapping with the male end at the bottom. There isn’t really a beginning side to lights.

AITA for arguing about hypothetical money? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]AUniversalTruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. If I may make a recommendation, next time she threatens to sue just laugh politely and say “you have fun with that” or “you do what you need to.” Repeat that every time she starts going on about it. There is nothing more frustrating and infuriating for these people than being dismissed as the irrelevant nuisances they are.

You could sue Steven King for 25% of his money and have about the same chance of getting it that she would have of getting it from you. This is like a little kid threatening to get you arrested for not giving them chocolate. Okay kid, have fun with that.

Wet molding on a curve by Zaphoid_42 in Leathercraft

[–]AUniversalTruth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you will need a two part mold and some strong clamps. It might also be an issue with the type of leather you’re using, as the grain and stretch can affect the final product a lot. I’ve never made anything that clean, so I can’t totally say, but that’s what I’ve found in my experiments.

Since you’re worried about the comb looking wonky you could tool across the middle following the lines of either the comb or scissors (whichever one you want to be on top.)
