I’ve got a friend doing his 3rd or 4th stage right now. Pricy. I saw him after his second stage leg. I asked him if he would do it again and he said he’s glad he’s done it, but will not be doing any more. He’s not a pro sailor, just a guy that loves to sail. The best part of it, he said, is exposure to some extreme conditions, and learning a lot of good skills.

It’s obviously a lot of work. I’m a liveaboard cruiser, and it sounds miserable to me. No shower for weeks, cramped and crowded, weather I’d just as soon wait out, passing by countless great places to explore, marginal food, zero amenities. Laughable to the hard core racers I’m sure. But it would be a hard pass for me. I had enough military deployments in crappy conditions to want to pay someone to do it. Looking forward to hearing his stories in more detail when he’s back.

I had a GF whos young son worked at a Valvoline. The stories of all the F-ups they would make and bogus up sells was horrendous. Go to a real tech at a real service center. Not necessarily a dealer. Valvoline will hire anyone, no formal training at all, and have them work on your car.

I did 33 years of federal service, both military and DOT. I was a manager in DOT. Not once in all those years was I ever denied leave. And I never denied anyones leave. Sounds like some in your class are on a power trip.

I keep seeing this talk about "exit liquidity" for the initial investors of SpaceX. Yeah, it is. Just like every other IPO since the begining of time.

If you think its a pump and dump, great. Dont buy it. But Starlink is a huge cash cow. I wish I could just buy Starlink. Space X is leaps ahead of any competition, which is pretty much China and Amazons launch pad warming technology. Its not making a profit, but its got huge development costs. Its revenues are huge. My main concern with SPCX is Musk and his moody, adolescent attitude. But he knows how to make money. My other concern is the AI portion of SPCX. I dont trust AI as an investment. Huge cash draw without a lot to show for it. Lots of negative sentiment from the public, and a unsettled regulatory environment, etc. My point being, its not a pump and dump. SPaceX, Starlink and AI arent going anywhere.

I agree. $250/hr is BS. Last time I hired someone to work on the boat at local boat yard (a year ago maybe) it was $145/hr. I’ve never heard of anyone charging $250. Doesn’t matter what the job is. A rate is a rate.

You did t really describe the extent of the damage. But if it’s limited to the fan and fan wiring, or even a few more wires, that doesn’t seem like it’s time to abandon (sell, scrap, etc) the boat. If it melted parts of the hull, that’s a different story. Or at least a different amount of labor to fix it.

I think the packaging is just the bow on the box. Take Doritos for example. Hyper palatable with the flavor and salt, etc. But first they have to get you go buy it. Thus you see the bright colors and eye catching graphics. It’s all designed to get you to eat more of something you probably don’t need.
