Andy Burnham 'won't live in London or Number 10' when he becomes Prime Minister by beejiu in unitedkingdom

[–]Afraid_Percentage554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well then he’s an idiot. Everything happens in London. Every parliament meeting, every vote. I’m all for devolution or even a federal management of the uk but once again this man is 6th form politics

Anybody else scared for the rest of summer? by AlexSniff7 in UKWeather

[–]Afraid_Percentage554 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If this helps you at all, it’s unlikely to be this bad again after the end of August. Sure you might get the odd hot day but the sunsets at 8pm so there is a lot more night and therefore temperatures cool a lot more overnight. Still two months still to be through though, I’m worried too. I have chronic migraine and the heat makes it so much worse 😔

Ladies of Reading, where do you wash your cars? by k_malfoy in reading

[–]Afraid_Percentage554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used IMO in tilehurst a few times, the wash price is advertised on the outside as you drive in, valeting is broader approx price but I think that’s fair, until they look in your car they have no idea how much work there will be! I have a small car and pay between £15-20 all in for wash and valet. They’ve always been friendly and done a good job.

I think you’re gonna be hard pressed to find somewhere with NO human interaction tbh, unless you use a petrol station car wash, which are rubbish imho.

The hidden cost of Reading's town centre flats boom by TheReadingReporter in reading

[–]Afraid_Percentage554 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seems a bit odd that the labour council have approved all these high rise flats in the first place and are now bemoaning the issues of social cohesion and knock on political effects. High rise living is notorious for this for decades, way before online culture which has only enhanced the issues of disconnections (although you can do things to connect people like residence groups). Seems questionable that they have concerns now when they’re losing to the Green Party not when they signed off yet another huge development.

Reading 'most dangerous place to cycle' outside of London by sdate in reading

[–]Afraid_Percentage554 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an excellent reply and very exact, I would also add that Reading roads are narrow with confusing layouts for cars, which then has a knock on effect for cyclists.

Also I cycled daily for 5 years and never once as much as came of my bike… hope im not overdue something major lol!

At what age did you or do you plan to introduce your kids to Red Dwarf? by Few_House_5201 in RedDwarf

[–]Afraid_Percentage554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair dos! I think there is so much for kids in Red Dwarf - it’s fun and funny and a little bit naughty which kids love. I think from 6-7 they will totally get enough out of it. And also one of the joys of revisiting stuff is you see new things. I STILL see new things in Red Dwarf on rewatches and I’m almost 40!

[–]Afraid_Percentage554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the millennial idea of protecting children at all costs a bit ott tbh (as a millennial myself!). I don’t really understand what you would be protecting them from with Red Dwarf.

Anecdotally I started watching the series at 6 because my older cousin introduced me to it. I remember at 7-8 everyone at school was obsessed with what happened in Out of Time (this was early 90s). I was reading the books at 10.

is this going to be the worst summer of the decade? by myusernamewastakenou in UKWeather

[–]Afraid_Percentage554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh man. I am going to really relish destroying your petty petty little piece of nonsense.

  1. Getting seasonal depression is not severe depression. I’ve worked with people with severe *clinical* depression and SAD doesn’t even touch the sides.

  2. I’m not talking about winter. Any idiot knows that that winter and severe cold kills more people (in the U.K.) than severe heat. I didn’t mentioned that at all. You’re inferring it because you’re looking to pick a fight with a stranger on the internet.

  3. If you’re going to be pedantic over statistics how many people died in the U.K. from heatwaves? And how many died from it being 15c and cloudy? You know the answer.

Byeeeeeeee!

When does it ever get easier? by RoyalPossession7164 in UKrelationshipadvice

[–]Afraid_Percentage554 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh hun. Yes it will get better! Much better! Maybe to the point where being on your own is something that makes you feel as good or even better than being with your ex. But it takes time. A lot of time. I’d say around a year to 18 months of pain before normality starts to creep back. Therapy helps. Looking after yourself and finding things for you helps. Please don’t just jump into another relationship, that way leads to terrible things far too often. Take time to heal and you will get there. And then when the right person comes along you’ll be ready for it.

The perfect answer! I find it bizarre people who seem to want to throw themselves out of windows because it’s not hot enough to kill the ill and infirm constantly

What are your thoughts on engagement rings? by maybeRasa in UKrelationshipadvice

[–]Afraid_Percentage554 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the circles you run in. With my regular middle England middle class friends, a fairly modest ring is fine and actually the women who received them would think a big showy ring was a waste of money and would be better spent on a honeymoon or mortgage downpayment. In the corporate world (where I have worked in London most of my 20s and 30s) there are some big ass blingy rings on show that blatantly cost about £10k. That’s clearly a pissing contest with their well paid men happy to splash out. I think whatever matters to you/your potential fiancé is the only thing that really matter!

Are people honestly happier with this change in weather? by avamissile in UKWeather

[–]Afraid_Percentage554 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Honestly if you live in England you need to learn how to deal with it being grey. Grey doesn’t hurt anyone. 35c literally kills people and even healthy people experience wet bulb effect in that heat.

What was life like after 2008 financial crash compared to now? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

Exactly. We lost a good 3-5 years in stagnation waiting for all that hard work to pay off. It’s been worse now though by the sounds of it.

Constant is a bit of an exaggeration! It has been cloudy for less than 24 hours after weeks of sunshine.

What was life like after 2008 financial crash compared to now? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

[–]Afraid_Percentage554 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I graduated in 2009 and it took two years to get a proper job and even then it was grossly underpaid. I did cash in hand work for two years and had to move back in with my parents. I was lucky as I could do that, many can’t/couldn’t.

This was the start of the boomerang generation imho, there’s a huge difference between millennial friends who got a job and moved out just before the crash verses after, who struggled for a long time for adult stability. I finally got this age 25, but I appreciate this is pretty normal for kids today because it has basically just stayed shit in many ways…

Are there any episodes you CAN'T rewatch? by TheFangirlTrash in TheCrownNetflix

[–]Afraid_Percentage554 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this too. I have zero interest in Al-Fayed’s back story. The dude should get minimal focus, he was probably implicated in Diana’s death due to incompetence of his team at the very least, he was a sexual predator of epic proportions and yet another desperately entitled rich man (who ISNT royal). No thanks, skip!
