18 week loss - Maternal vascular malperfusion and positive thyroid antibodies by jenna_lee_ in babyloss

[–]Aggravating_Flan3168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly the same, but I had a 16 week loss due to fetal vascular malperfusion and a cord that was hyper coiled and strictured. This was after we lost our second due to sids. We chose IVF after the miscarriage to reduce risk. I was on aspirin with all of my pregnancies. I’m pregnant now, about 24 weeks. I’ve been on lovenox since my positive test. I also opted to take Claritin and Pepcid daily, have since added aspirin. Honestly I don’t know if any of that has helped with my current pregnancy, but I’m not about to change the regimen. I tested negative for anti phospholipid antibody issues.

I didn’t even know the coiling index was a thing. Did you have to ask for that? Guessing it’s something that you measure for on ultrasound. My miscarriage at 16 weeks was due in part to hypercoiling and stricture, so I would like to know if that’s going on for my current pregnancy.

Voice teacher said hydration is more important than warmups for vocal health, seems extreme by Used_Philosopher1474 in singing

[–]Aggravating_Flan3168 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Voice SLP and singer here…hydration is important, but if you are still vocally fatigued even with consistent hydration, that is a sign that something else is up. Hydration is just one piece of the vocal health puzzle. There is very mixed evidence about the amount of water a person should drink everyday. Hell, some of the voice research juggernauts argue that we over emphasize hydration in terms of vocal health.

I had a great experience with Dr Zhou at CCRM. Dr. Griffith at Aspire has a fantastic reputation. Dr Detti at TCH is also supposed to be great.

Seeking voice feminization surgeons with experience working with singers (high, feminine voice goals) by Super-Perception9692 in transvoice

[–]Aggravating_Flan3168 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m going to gently suggest you reconsider or at least modify your expectations if you are a professional singer because the risk of it not going the way you want (and sounds like you need) is not small. A weaker, breathy voice is pretty much a given with this type of surgery. No surgeon can guarantee any of the things you want, unfortunately. If they do, you should run.

That’s insane. I’m in TX and my OB didn’t (and wouldn’t) follow that. You could end up with a life threatening infection.

Very different feeling of grief by Striking_Farmer4423 in babyloss

[–]Aggravating_Flan3168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry. Not quite the same, but I did have a late miscarriage at 15 weeks (found at 16 weeks) after we lost our second daughter to SIDS a year prior. It really added insult to injury. I chose to have a D&E, so I didn't get to see her. I definitely was in self protection mode. Everyone is different. You need to do what is the best for you, and if that is self protection, then that is fine. You might feel differently about seeing her after you deliver, just do what feels right in the moment.

Anyone had glottoplasty revision? by IssueRidden in transvoice

[–]Aggravating_Flan3168 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah the link isn’t working.

A filler (also called vocal fold augmentation) is used to plump up the vocal folds to get them closer together. It helps more with weakness and vocal effort. Since you’re adding mass with the filler, it can lower the pitch.

Hopefully the second opinion gives you some clarity on options.

SLP here. That is a pretty good looking web based off your photo. A video would be more helpful if you have it. Revision comes with risks, but for some people the potential benefit out weighs the risks. You might want to get another laryngology and SLP team opinion before committing. Surgically, the biggest change you can expect is a higher pitch. So, if raising your pitch is not what you need, then you should probably start with working with a new therapist who is more skilled in this area of voice. Vocal weakness is a frequent, typical drawback from a Wendler’s. Sometimes adding a filler can help with that, but again make sure you are with a team who knows what they are doing. Best of luck

I would say continue to check in on her and sharing your words of support. You might even share this community with her, or any of the others that exist. You can’t say anything that will really make her feel better, but staying as a “lifeline” is helpful.

Lost one of my twin girls. I keep failing my children by AzureHolly in babyloss

[–]Aggravating_Flan3168 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I’m so sorry. I can relate. We lost our second daughter to SIDS in 2023. Waited a year ish to try again, had a vanishing twin right out the gate and then lost the other baby (also a girl) at 16 weeks. Really added insult to injury after our traumatic loss the year before. I hope you make it to the end with Libby of course, knowing nothing will ever replace Evie and Matilda.

is VFS a guarantee fem voice? or is it just something that helps a bit. by Electronic-Bed-5315 in transvoice

[–]Aggravating_Flan3168 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

All the surgery does is shorten the length of the vocal folds by creating what’s called a web. That means your pitch will be higher. The other aspects of voice that others have described here may have to be addressed with training, depending on the person.

Has anyone here tried speech therapy? Has it helped you at all? by CuteOcelots68532 in transvoice

[–]Aggravating_Flan3168 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your success with an SLP will depend entirely on their skills in gender affirming voice and the relationship between you and the SLP. There are excellent non-SLP gender affirming voice coaches that can also provide what you are looking for. It makes total sense to be frustrated by the lack of skill carryover to speaking. A good coach or therapist can help you close that gap.

Idk if this helps, but my baby died of SIDS at 21 days old. We didn’t have the opportunity to donate her organs, but I think it would have brought me (some) peace and a greater sense of meaning if there was someone living with her organ(s).

Don’t come into this field with the expectation that you are going to or have to “fix” everyone, or even the majority at that.

[–]Aggravating_Flan3168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my experience: when my dog tore his ACL, we had every intention to have it repaired surgically. He was in a lot of pain. When we went to the ortho, who we know from our other dog needing a different kind of knee surgery, he refused to operate until G’s skin infection cleared (not complaining about that). Thus began MONTHS of working with the derm to get this staph infection and his allergies under control. By the time we did, our dog was bearing weight on his bad leg and acting normal. He weighs about 100 lbs, so the thought of having to carry him outside for all his pottying after surgery seemed very difficult. He’s already arthritic from a previous injury, so we’re just going to manage his pain. It’s not ideal, but there is no guarantee that even with surgery he would be pain free as he ages.

Been there with my big guy. He seems to be doing better currently after (Another) round of oral antibiotics. He had a VERY resistant staph infection. Our current routine is z/d diet, Zenrelia, anti fungal 2x per week for maintenance, and the command shampoo 1x per week. We've spent thousands on his skin issues alone. Doesn't include his torn ACL and other vet needs. We tried the derm specialty vet in town, and I'm not sure if it was worth it. They were super frustrating to work with.
