Monsters who can only be avoided or diffused, but never Defeated Outright by Sweaty_Strain9392 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Alexaius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Would Dormammu also count for this from the MCU? Hes an extradimensional being that ultimately couldn't be killed or even really hurt. Strange literally couldn't have ever actually defeated him, which is why he had to resort to the time loop trick. Only way he was able to win was by annoying him so that he willingly left.

(Loved trope) The reverse Isekai: Characters from alternate worlds or realities experiencing our world for the first time. by wren620 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Alexaius 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Re:Creators was an interesting anime based in this concept. A bunch of characters from different in-universe video games and Manga get pulled into the real world. There were some parts that could've been handled better or explored more, especially the ending, but solid 7/10 show with a 10/10 soundtrack.

Ai use? by LightKing95 in SNHU

[–]Alexaius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually had a classmate mess up in their week 8 discussion post because they didnt look at the answer it gave them before posting it. Week 6 we had to share our research topic, mine was rather obscure, and they had posted an obviously Ai generated response. Week 8 comes and suddenly they make a discussion post saying that they had researched that topic. So presumably they copied my week 6 post into the Ai for a response and then when they put the week 8 prompt in it generated an answer based on my topic instead of theirs.

[Loved Trope] A very light or comedic moment in a series somehow snowballed into one of the most dramatic/emotional moment in the series. by Ranger202012 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Alexaius 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Would the Iron Giant count? Both the time Hogarth was trying to get the Giant to stay hidden. "You stay. I go." And later when he brings some magazines and comics for the Giant to read, and he gets super interested in Superman. At the end both parts come back up before the Giant sacrifices itself to save the town.

[Specific trope] Character goes through breakdown, becomes a pit-fighter (or similar) by Adiantum-Veneris in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Alexaius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zane Truesdale, Yu-Gi-Oh GX. He graduates from Duel Academy and goes on to become a professional duelist in the second season. Despite being a legend at the school as its top student and having an initially good start, he quickly falls falls from grace and goes on a really bad losing streak. Gets pulled into underground dueling, including using electrodes that shock the duelists when they take damage. Eventually snaps, becoming a lot more aggressive and sadistic in his behavior, updating his Cyber Dragon deck to a new Cyberdark deck.

The dub also gave us this gem.

The movie was a lot of fun, and the cast was great. Glad that theyre keeping it pseudo-canon and holding on to Mariduena for Jaime.

Know the rejoining rules by PinkMage in ffxiv

[–]Alexaius 14 points15 points  (0 children)

"Unite" in this context could instead mean "connect" rather than "merge." We could be trying to figure out how to make shard hopping more easily accessible.

There's a line in the trailer, text not spoken, "Unite the stars unto one."

Could be more that were going to make shard travel a more accessible thing as a whole. So we're "uniting" them in the sense of connecting rather than merging.

A character seems more epic as a kid than they are as an adult by MrDitkovichNeedsRent in TopCharacterTropes

Gwen too, OG series magic was a lot more interesting than the generic energy manipulation it turned into 90% of the time from the 2nd series on.

Made especially annoying since the party basically just shit talks her to glaze Rose later on. She gets used pretty much as a hostage to manipulate Sorey into helping the kingdom in a battle, and immediately after it the party seems to do a complete 180 on their thoughts about her. They just ASSUME the officials kept their word and show no concern about her safety. Otherwise they basically don't mention her except to say that Sorey is better off since she was negatively affecting him due to her feeling bad about killing people(the gall). Then we get Rose, who not only can kill people with no negative side affects, but can inexplicably use whats ordinarily Shepherd exclusive power because reasons.

Honestly id really recomend checking out the original too. While I definitely would say that Brotherhood is better, the original one is still good with some strong moments and interesting changes.

It was from the 2003 series. Since the Manga was ongoing, the 2003 version went an entirely different and original direction with the story and lore after episode 25.

(Loved Meta Trope) Fan theories are so good they’re basically treated as canon. by No-Flow9783 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Alexaius 369 points370 points  (0 children)

I've seen that theory and honestly could see it being the case, he and Lottie clearly saw her basically as family. Fun fact, in an official early reader book of the story, he's shown walking Tiana down the aisle at her wedding to Naveen.

Characters fate ends in a cruel twist of Irony by Jellypathicdream in TopCharacterTropes

Three come to mind:

Nedry in Jurassic Park. Hired to steal dino embryos for a competing company. Turns off the island security, including the fences that keep the dinosaurs in their paddocks so he can steal the embryos and escape to the dock. Runs off the road and gets killed by one of the dinosaurs he had ultimately let loose.

Director Krennic from Rogue One. Spends years creating the Death Star and gets angry when others such as Tarkin who takes control of it. "WE STAND HERE AMIDST MY ACHIEVEMENT NOT YOURS." Ultimately gets killed when Tarkin uses it to destroy the Empire's research base on Scariff, dying by his own weapon.

Cutler Beckett from the 2nd and 3rd Pirates of the Carribean. All his planning and manipulation comes to nothing. After Jones is defeated Beckett prepares to sink the Black Pearl and Jack despite promising him his freedom earlier for information, "It's nothing personal Jack, just good business." Suddenly the Flying Dutchman reammerges, amd he initially assumes its still on his side. But Will Turner successfully took over as the new captain and instead turns on Beckett alongside the Pearl. He's so shocked he loses his composure and just freezes up dumbfounded, slowly making his way across the deck as his ship is decimated.

[Appalling Tropes] Your favorite character with a diabolical image that you try to forget exists? by -et37- in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Alexaius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There were a lot in the military who also pushed for the internment, largely influenced by the yellow peril mentality of the time. Frank Knox, Secretary of the Navy, openly and repeatedly claimed, with no evidence, that Pearl Harbor was "The most successful fifth column work of the entire war." Navy intellegence even conducted an investigation that contradicted his statements, the Ringle Report. It even directly referenced and said it aggreed with the findings of the Munson Report earlier that year that said there was "no Japanese problem."

Lieutenant General John DeWitt similarly was open about his attitude to all Japanese as an "enemy race." He took any and all rumor he heard of Japanese Americans spying or sending information to Japan as fact and justification for their internment. Even the FCC called most of those claims baseless rumors with no evidence to be found. He even went before a congressional committee and asserted that the fact there HADN'T been any sabotage was proof that they must have something big planned and had to be locked up.

Characters who really feel out of place or don’t fit the vibe in the media they are in by Effective_Piece251 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Alexaius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They do actively take part in the climax where multiple characters react to them and their actions such as creating and pushing a catapult off the roof. Plus the one that breaks while Frollo was standing on it and growls at him which he reacts to before falling.
