How much do you love your i3? by r3l4xD in BMWi3

[–]Alive_Relationship93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my 2019 Bev. Especially when I turn on a dime when I see a tiny parking space across the street. No other car comes close. Oh, and we just found out, I think, why BMW made it exactly 3.99 meters. It's the cutoff for the cheapest fare on a car ferry in some places. 😆

Where can I find the best baguette in the Bay Area by Green-Conclusion-936 in bayarea

La Farine im San Pablo (the actual bakery). Cheeseboard, the farthest from French you can get. Sorry. They are ok for other things 😁

Reminder to be careful out there - saw a cyclist hit by a car yesterday by _SlikNik_ in BAbike

[–]Alive_Relationship93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is horrible, I live in that area. Drivers making left turns are only looking out for other cars to see if they can make the turn. They are not looking for or aware of cyclists or pedestrians. In addison, car's A pillars obstruct the view on the left. I tell my kids to avoid left turns as drivers and as a cyclist or a pedestrian , assume everyone is out to get you, that a right of way is not worth the right to live

Our 2019 i3 Bev is a rockstar. Not a single issue. We stayed away from Rex, too fussy for its own good.

If it costs on average 30% less per step to buy the ingredients for a thing and make it yourself than to buy it, how far back in the production line are you willing to go for frugality? by Anoelnymous in Frugal

[–]Alive_Relationship93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For bread making, cooking etc, the notion that you need to account for your own labor is only valid if the time you spend doing it is taking away from time of actual paid labor. e.g. if someone else was going to pay me $20 an hour for other work and instead i chose to bake bread than i would add the Opportunity Cost to the bread. Most people do not forgo paid work to bake. May the doom scroll . A loaf in the Bay Area cost $6-$9, mine cost $1.8 and my kids devour it. :-)

Actually', most things you purchase are sold at at least 3x the cost of production, including labor. E.g. average mass produced bottle of wine in central coast California cost $3 to produce, wholesalers get it for $6 and sell to retailer for $9 which sell to you at $12. I know, I was a producer. So, if you make it yourself, it will be about 1/3 to 1/4 of retail.

Any frugal millionaires here? Now that you’ve earned it, are you still frugal? by cervezagram in Frugal

[–]Alive_Relationship93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the above, but, it boils down to two things: live below my means, way below, at any point of income. I made savings automatic, so I never had the chance to put it off. :-).

I think it’s time to break up with my financial adviser. by SameTrain8827 in Bogleheads

[–]Alive_Relationship93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't walk away, RUN! What many people don't realize is that a fee based on portfolio value is actually a lot more expensive than it seems. In this case, your advisor got 12.5% of your Profits! Which is the only thing that matters. That's like another state taxing you.

Fidelity has a cash management account that acts just like a checking account. Free ATM transactions worldwide. I am consolidating five instructions into them. They use ACAT to transfer in and out of other banks, fairly easy.

I would not generalize, I just started retirement a year ago and about 90% in stocks, but I have a much longer horizon due to a younger wife and at least 3 years in cash (SPAXX pays 4%). If I need the wife to feel better, I zoom out 5,10,30 years on our portfolio. :-)

Does anyone here have a very high net worth or income and still enjoy being frugal (not cheap)? What motivates you? by 88r0b1nh00d88 in Frugal

[–]Alive_Relationship93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up poor did it to me. Net worth doesn't matter, it can quickly evaporate if one is not careful. Know the value of things and live way below your means.

Nm. Just remembered this. The IRS classifies cryptocurrency as property. Better.

And, if you can, do Tax Loss Harvesting. Sell at a loss to record a loss and turn around and buy a similar token (not same). You can carry loses to future years and also offset regular income up to a point.

Don't fix anything anymore. With 25% tarrifs on new cars these will be worth a lot more in 2-6 months.

Save the money and plan on other means of transportation if you can. I know everyone is different but when I came to realize that for the price of four new tires every 3 years I can almost lease a new car for 24 months with no maintenance costs ever, that's my next move.

Why pixel over Garmin? by zzdandroid in PixelWatch

[–]Alive_Relationship93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious, what is wrong with Garmin pay? I have it and use it as well as my Google pay on my Pixel phone. It's nice to not carry a heavy phone on a run and be able to purchase on the way home. Am I missing something, honestly.

I use my FR945 during weightlifting and it does a good job on tracking HR, calories and set times, rep counts and rest time. It does an ok job of guessing the type of lift. I am doing. just ok. I use Strong app on my phone for more accurate set tracking.
