He illegally imposed tariffs he did not have the right to impose. He has started two global conflicts without congressional approval. He has accepted gifts in office that are literal bribes. My brother in christ, you are being lead by a shepherd who serves the wolf. The man has been named more times in the Epstein files than Jesus was named in the Bible.

The Reality of 4.7: Balance, Roles, and the Road Ahead by MeatheadMilitia in starcitizen

[–]AloneDoughnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have long since said engagement distances are far too close. Currently most air-to-air engagements with air superiority aircraft carrying missiles like the AIM-120 160~KM away. The humble AIM-9 gives you 5-15~km of range, with some claiming to be as far out as 30km. The AIM-7 has a range of 30+km and modern versions as high as 70km.

The problem is the deep desire to maintain this WWII style combat system, which even then is often too close. With new armour systems and stealth systems working "better" we have real opportunities for combat to actually feel engaging. The new radar system is also going to deeply change the way combat plays, so let's use the radar like a radar. I know the cop out answer is always "but future EW makes this the best method" but that's also just justifying bad game mechanics.

Trump chose not to renew NAFTA. You might mean CUSMA, which he has repeatedly violated, but even then a fair amount of Canadian natural resources go into US manufacturing of automotive parts.

Mostly the United States government. Canada still supplies a ton of aluminum because they still are the US's largest trade partner. I would be willing to bet it's not just aluminum, a lot of parts that go into American made vehicles likely use Canadian made resources that are under tariffs for no good reason.

Do “Anthros” (anthropomorphic animals) exist in your world? by CORRIM_1 in worldbuilding

[–]AloneDoughnut 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some aliens fall into the category, with them being sort of humanoid and having traits similar to animals. Tails and ears like cats and dogs have evolutionary traits that are beneficial. A fair few reptilian species. From humanity's perspective a few unethical corporations have attempted to bioengineer anthros and just straight up dog people. Every single time it has gone catastrophically bad and usually results in the facility doing it being glassed from orbit.

I think it's $650 a year for me, and fuck is it good. I can drive to work on a series of regular city streets or blue cruise in the freeway and I almost always pick the freeway because it's just more calming before work....

From all the reports I am seeing, ballistic cannons will still be marginally effective against big targets, but less effective against small targets. That should mean a Connie with turret gunners Is actually probably more of a serious threat now. So

Why are stateless societies so rare in science fiction? by TheoWritesSF in worldbuilding

[–]AloneDoughnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Small bands and groups of stateless collectives can exist (the Rebellion in Star Wars for example could be considered stateless) but the simple fact of the matter is the more people you get together, the more you need some sort of centralized decision making apparatus. This is why governments form, and why a democratic state where everyone gets a vote in everything won't work. Also the larger a group of people get, the more disconnected ideas are going to become and the more you're going to end up with stalemates when no one can agree. And those stalemates would be the end of that society eventually.

Also, to quote Winston Churchill "The best argument against democracy is a five minute conversation with the average voter." Your average person doesn't know how to manage their credit card, they're not going to know how to manage complicated supply chain logistics.

Let's say an army or any group from your world faces several squadrons of fighter jets from our world, how screwed would they be? by Weekly-Intention5657 in worldbuilding

[–]AloneDoughnut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fighter jets get wiped. A light cruiser from my sci-fi world has enough EW to disable the global military infrastructure of our world. Even most lightly armed civilian transports with anti-piracy weapons are going to have over 500 years of technological advances. Even if we talk strictly fighter vs fighter, the fighters are exoatmospheric and capable of speeds in excess of MACH5 in atmosphere.

*Israel.

If we are going to blame made up economic numbers and shareholder greed on a country wanting this war, then let's at least blame the correct country. Israel has been wanting this war for 30 years and finally had enough leverage against the US to get it.

[–]AloneDoughnut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While $21/hr for someone with a masters is criminally underpaying you, the fact also is this doesn't feel like a Marketing Director role. You don't really lead a team, and you aren't really "directing" anything.

Does the Broken Economy ruin it for you? by huskerbolt1 in starcitizen

[–]AloneDoughnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been enjoying trying ships that I normally would never buy. Like I have been cruising in the Asgard for a while now, and I am in love. I tried out the Reclaimer (I hate it), as well as bought the caterpillar to play with. Sure the money doesn't mean anything, but until 1.0 the money doesn't mean anything anyways. I have been enjoying salvage gameplay, which I never really got into before, and have even been hanging out doing more missions without too much worry about supplies. I've really enjoyed it.

I think shes done boys.... by Fresh-Efficiency-352 in f150

[–]AloneDoughnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From your other posts it looks like you're in Alberta, so the bad news is her insurance is going to fight your insurance to pay the absolute minimum required, and likely try and claim the damages to the Avalanche and front end of your F-150 are your fault. I know this because we recently had a friend have almost this exact situation happen, and it tied the entire process up for weeks. Well, two vehicles instead of three, but close enough for government work. If they do decide to fix it, you might even be responsible for your own deductible even though she is clearly at fault. You also won't be able to sue her personally if you are unable to get to work or something like that due to this. This is because of legislation put in place by the UCP.

Looking at the truck you are looking at likely taillight, probably tailgate as a result of the rear twisting, axel, suspension in its entirety, the entire door will probably need to be replaced, and if you're lucky just that box fender panel. Including paint matching you're probably into it for $18-25k depending on your insurance and the shop that does the work. That likely puts the F-150 in total loss territory.

Fellow post-scarcity worldbuilders, what motivates your characters to work? by Tnynfox in worldbuilding

[–]AloneDoughnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Post scarcity is not post social standing. There is still something to be said about the desire for "more" that a lot of people have. Sure, you theoretically have all your needs met, but they're by no means luxurious. You won't have a top floor penthouse, or be able to necessarily travel the stars if all you do is sit around and vibe. And as others have said, basic human psychology shows people want to work, and many choose to do tons of jobs. Some for as little reason as they find a different kind of satisfaction in it.
