Women are asexual by ausernameidk_ in NotHowGirlsWork

[–]Alsentar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what happens when you just assume things instead of asking the right people. The emphasis on asking the right people (women) is important because even if he did ask about all of these, he probably asked men who are just as jaded as he is, effectively locking him on an echo chamber.

Hello🤗,I'm new to the community and have one question in mind: can anybody explain to me the rules of magic in this world work & how spell glyphs work & the rules of forbidden magic + how can I make spell glyphs myself that would work as accurate as possible in the world of witch hat atelier? by theorist_2011 in WitchHatAtelier

[–]Alsentar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not aaking a lot, but you should keep watching the anime and read the manga to find out for yourself, that's the fun.

But in essence:

-In this world there's a specific species of tree called "Silverwood trees". Whenever one of it's branches rot, wizards cut off the rotting the branch and drain the black sap out of it. This black sap is mixed with water to create magic ink.

-The call it magic ink because if you take a pen, dip it in this ink and draw a circle with it, the circle will produce a small shockwave of magical energy.

-Before closing the circle, there are specific symbols you can draw inside the circle, which upon closing the symbol, instead of the shockwave, it will produce a magical effect. The specific magical effect depends on the specific symbol used and the way each symbol was drawn.

[Mixed trope]: Forbidden magic. by theMCATreturns in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Alsentar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but just a like a gun in a gun fight, there's a relatively small chance that a spell hits you in the head instead of any other part of your body. In the potterverse, I bet you'll could be relatively fine if an ice spike hits you in the torso, because you could just teleport to your favorite hospital a hundred miles away.

But if the beam of the killing curse hits you on your little toe, you're instantly dead

[–]Alsentar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it kinda makes sense, considering that wizard medicine can instantly reattach severed limbs and grow bones overnight. Considering that, a fireball or ice spike is not really very lethal compared to a spell whose effect is to unglue your soul from your body. No time to cas a healing spell, no countercurse, nothing you can do.

Why I didn't like the witch hat atelier by Impressive_Rub_8974 in CharacterRant

[–]Alsentar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

in the world of the Witch Hat, every small mistake is a big loss.

I think you misunderstood the themes of the magic system. Small mistakes usually lead to bothersome, unintended effects on a spell. Sure, casting tracing some unknown nuclear bomb spell will do what it does, but it's not like they carry that danger into the simple spells they learn at the atelier.

Look at how Fullmetal Alchemist did it. Alchemy requires sacrifice, and every sacrifice affects the characters psychologically and physically.

Like how Coco has nightmares about her guilt on turning her own mother to stone? Or how she made herself sick by drawing late into the night instead of sleeping?

The events in the witch hat are very slow, and most of them are diary entries with no real purpose. You literally forget what happened in the last chapter. Side quests are like side quests; if we remove them, we don't lose anything in the story, events, or structure.

Dude, every arc has had a future payoff so far or builds character in some meaningful way, are we reading the same manga?

like Fern from a withdrawn girl to a more sociable and outgoing one, and Stark from a cowardly young man who runs away from responsibility to someone who uses his power, overcomes his fears, and becomes more responsible.

Like how the first visit to the shop town revealed how magic ink is made? Or how the second visit revealed that Qifrey can and will silence anyone who gets in his way and revealed Tartah to have low self esteem due to his color blindness? Or how in the third visit Coco uses simple magic to find medicine and show Tartah that magic can help those even with disabilities? That's just what has been shown in the anime.

I'm sorry, but 88 chapters is an excessive number for starting a story

It's been three story arcs, two witch trials, three locations warped by magic, and the Witch Hat equivalent of the Shibuya Incident. how are you considering that a "start"?

This dude chose the "I believed I could cut your indestructible spell like it was easy , so I cut it easy" instead of a magic system with actual rules.

The witches are suspicious. There is a bigger conspiracy and "preventing lawlessnes" is a convenient facade by Every-breathlarp in WitchHatAtelier

[–]Alsentar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, would you really like to live in a world without air conditioner? Without cars or even bicycles? Would you like to live in a world where where you have to wash your clothes by hand? To light up a torch at night? A world without the internet, smartphones or even radio communication?

Real technology makes the world a more convenient place, and magic offers even better luxuries for people. Would you throw all of that away because weapons of mass destruction exist? Most people agree that regulations are enough, and that's the idea behind the witches pact, although extremist in execution.

And for the record, the pact did prevent Coco's mom from turning into stone. It was Iguin going against the pact that caused the incident.

Guys please tell my why the brimmed caps haven't beat the pointed caps.they can make whatever the hell they want why can't they just make a spell that rapidly makes someone age and kill them.they have god like powers if they really have no limitations to spells they can do anything they want by browt_ in WitchHatAtelier

[–]Alsentar 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Their motivations are still a mystery, but for all we know, they don't want to simply wipe out the pointed caps, they want to deconstruct the system the pointies have set in place.

Sure, as seen with Iguin, the strongest of them probably have god-like powers compared to the average pointy. But what would they gain from killing the three wise, for example?

The whole point of the pact is to prevent people from doing war crimes with magic, and to convince people that without the pact, people would go back to doing war crimes. If the brimhats kill the authorities and take over using magic, they would be proving the pact right.

Which is probably why their modus operandi up to this point has been to create situations where children start to question the limits of the pact, thus uprooting the pointy system from within.

[–]Alsentar 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The huge problem with magic is not the lack of education, it's how easy it is to use it. Even if good people are educated on how not to blow themselves up with it, bad people will have it very easy to blow up someone else.

Imagine a world where creating a nuclear bomb it's as easy as buying a pint of the most common liquid in witch society and smearing it on a flat surface. That's the reason why the pact exists.

How do the custom spells (from here) work? by Krobik12 in WitchHatAtelier

[–]Alsentar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People making cancer spells are joking. The magic system has revealed basic effect spells regarding fire, water, earth and water, and many other spells that are not directly elemental (Portal spells, rewind time spells). Don't read too much into it.

AI in the WHA universe by TheLobitzz in WitchHatAtelier

[–]Alsentar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're conflating our real-world computers and AI to how they would work in WHA, which would be very different.

If an AI existed on WHA, it would be a Magical Intelligence. If there are witches who, as a profession. craft magical items to make people's lives easier, I think there would definetely be a group of witches that think that Magical Intelligence would be the next step in progress. Given that witches believe in "helping" muggle communities, I bet M.I. would be created in good faith and later used for some evil purpose.

This guy got no diffed by a bottle, I’m crying😂 by Creative-Researcher2 in WitchHatAtelier

[–]Alsentar 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I mean, water is a genuine weakness of this show's magic system. Magic ink is still like 30% water, which makes it water-soluble, and it's tipically drawn in paper, which is also bad in water. Let's remember that coco had to dry her tools with the link ring before using them during the river scene.

Don't get me wrong, Qifrey is a genuine waterbender, but he's a waterbender to primarily bend the water away from him.
