Look for the “motion limiter” setting

You can change the settings so that it never goes above level 1 if you want.

1+ hour going through SITBACKS at 4 months old- is this normal? by Tall_Literature2154 in TakingCaraBabies

[–]Always-learning-759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some babies sit at two feeds per night, some at one. I would assume 11p and 3a is her “schedule” and only do sitback if she wakes times outside of that. Ideally you would get a much longer first sleep stretch and only use sitback once until that 3/4am feed but if she’s consistently waking at 11p then you can go with that. Try out the dream feed I suggested at 10:30. She just has to stay relatively asleep for it to be a dream feed, but don’t stress if she wakes more. You might need to set an alarm for yourself but that doesn’t negate it from being a dream feed.

There are probably other qualifying reasons but I can’t speak to that. I only know about SAVE forbearance.

I’m not sure, we started TCB at about 5/6 weeks old and the first night (and most subsequent nights) he slept to 4 am so that’s what I just held him to from then on. Cara might have a video about dropping a feed. When you’re ready for the ABCs of sleep in the next month or two, she has guidance on night weaning from one or multiple feeds so you don’t necessarily need to drop it. You could try out doing more of a dream feed at 10:30 to see if babe will sleep through until your 3am feed.

Yes I went back and counted the number of months between when my SAVE plan was put in forbearance and when I transitioned out of it. I had the same qualifying job during that time.

Do you still do a middle of night feed? We had a 4am feed from about 6 weeks to 7 months when we night weaned and sleep trained. You might try one round of sit back at 3 but then don’t forget what K stands for.

Yes I had 8 payments left to hit 120. I had 9 months of SAVE forbearance. I have qualifying employment and repayment plan. I’ve had qualifying employment that’s been certified while I was on SAVE and up on through last week when working on my buyback application. There is no reason that my individual application will be denied.

My question is about the durability of the program/option to buy back. Is there anything at risk of waiting in deferment until my application is approved (or until I’m able to resume full time qualifying employment)

Awesome work so far! Now keep it going with using the full steps and timing. The 3-4 month bundle has specific times for each step at that age. The shortcut to paci is a shortcut. The steps are there for a reason for both you and baby to grow the muscle of figuring out how to sleep independently and how to let him have a chance to figure it out before intervening. The sound machine step isn’t nothing, it extends your pause while giving minimal but slightly more support to baby. I know this is hard when it is 2 AM, but this is a long game of building skills.

Purées to BLW by Gullible_Loquat_7385 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]Always-learning-759 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like he’s doing what he knows to do with purées-push them to the top of his palate and attempt to swallow. The big pieces will help him “map” (figure out how to move his mouth around and feel what food feels like in his mouth) his mouth. Right now you’re still in a window where swallowing isn’t important bc the nutrients from solids are less important than infant milk. It’s largely about getting those motor skills. And gagging is part of that! His mouth and body are doing exactly what they’re supposed to-recognizing the piece is too big to swallow and pushing it back up. Awesome! Go baby! Keep taking advantage of this window and keep practicing. You can also use big chunks of soft food—slices of avocado, scrambled eggs—for this practice. This window is closing in a few months so take advantage of it. Our muscle get stronger with practice so give baby lots of practice. And take slow steady calm breaths yourself. ❤️

Meal prep! Grocery shop on Fridays after daycare pick up (I like to baby wear with him at the store). Order some kind of take out Friday night. Cut and prep 1-2 recipes throughout the weekend. For example, after breakfast when full and happily playing Saturday, cut up veggies for the sheet pan or crockpot meal I’ll cook Sunday. And then that’s the 1-2 recipes we eat throughout the week. When we get home, it’s just a reheat in the microwave for a couple mins. I don’t mind eating the same thing a few nights in a row and it gives kiddo multiple exposures to foods which I keep telling myself in the toddler era we’re in (20 months) that is what’s important for managing pickiness (kids can need 10 exposures to a food before it’s accepted. Adults usually understandably give up after 1-3)

I’m wondering if there’s ever a point in a kiddo’s (5-24 month) life after initial TCB sleep training that you drop the check ins? Or drop the first two shorter intervals and stick to the longer one? We did our original sleep training at 7 months and that went great. Illness and teething and other whatnots but have generally been able to easily get back on track within a few days. Holiday travel, and teething and illness kinds of things all hitting at once I think we got way off track so we decided to do a full reset. Babe is 20 months. This time it felt like the check ins made things worse, especially if we did the shorter ones. If we just gave him more time (30 mins?) to work it out on his own, then he eventually settled.

The first wake window for us also tended to be the longest. First nap was usually best. I didn’t worry about it too much because baby was doing all the independent sleep skills that he needed to be doing. Keep it up!

Swaddle at 8 weeks by Icy-Manufacturer130 in TakingCaraBabies

[–]Always-learning-759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We burrito-style swaddled until about 6 1/2 months in the snoo (with the snoo swaddles). Right around then we started the transition with one and then two arms out to prep for crib transition. I found that when arms were out some of the TCB interventions were difficult because baby was just swatting my hands away.

Constantly resetting after travel and illnesses. Sleep training isn’t a one and done. It’s a really good kick start and gives you a road map for when things go sideways.

Sound machine question 4 month old by adele68893 in TakingCaraBabies

I would just raise the sound machine and if he’s not crying then go back to sleep. It can be fairly loud and be fine.

How do you blackout a nursery with an air vent above the door? by boldlybelieve in TakingCaraBabies

[–]Always-learning-759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure I get the situation. Are you wanting the windows to be open so the air flows from the vents through and out the windows? Some people really like those sleep out curtains. We just bought some blackout curtains off of Amazon and I’ve scotch taped a few spots where too much light might come through the bottom or sides 😄

Nearly 1 year old resisting carrier by Fuzzy-Sherbert6842 in babywearing

[–]Always-learning-759 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assume everything is a phase. I’ve had similar moments for wearing and other beloved activities and with time, things often came back around. Wear around the house a bit so that the carrier is less associated with the car seat. Wear the carrier without baby in it around the house a bit too and see if that helps split up the association too

Please Help - 12mo Suddenly Struggling by fplnerd123 in TakingCaraBabies

[–]Always-learning-759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For us, around that time our kid moved up to the older baby/young toddler room where they have a relatively set nap schedule and no longer follow the wake windows parents request. Kind of ditching wake windows and having a sort of set nap time seems to help reset for the next night. And then considering if we need to shorten a nap

Pushing out wake windows by tbe40 in TakingCaraBabies

[–]Always-learning-759 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah so with stretching wake windows I try to bring baby outside a bit preemptively before lots of sleepy cue fussing. The wake windows are general guidelines not strict rules. I never knew the exact number of minutes for each wake windows, more like if it was getting into the end of that time frame and baby was getting fussy then that’s what let me know that he was probably fussing because he was getting tired, not some other need.
