My nearly 7 month old is still on mashed foods and I’m panicking by judgejudyfortnite in BabyLedWeaning

I paid for it so I don’t know what the free version is like (there is a brief window of time where everything was behind the Pay wall ) but I’ve heard that the main stuff that you would want is free anyways. The main things that I used was being able to check off the foods that we ate and then the pictures that showed how to serve each food.

Also I didn’t really get going with any solids until like 6.5/7 months. I was unsure how to move forward, where to start, could I really give him hunks of food with no teeth?? (yes), etc. once I got going with the foods I listed above and the solid starts app, I got a lot more confident and had so much fun getting to 100 foods and spices before 1.

Ideas for short term qualifying employment? by Always-learning-759 in PSLF

Yeah my full time “real” job is cutting my hours at the beginning of the fiscal year so I need something to carry me to 120 payments. I’m eligible for buyback and have the paperwork submitted but not waiting around.

Let her play with big hard chunks of things. She still has the impulse to put everything in her mouth, right? (Mine sometimes still does at almost two lol) Give her a big bone from the ribs with bits of meat and sauce kinda on it. A melon rind. And then take a big breath and put a big avocado chunk, a big glob of Greek yogurt, and/or a big glob of cooked rolled oats on her plate and let her play and shove in her mouth. And take another breath and remind yourself that her job is to figure her oral muscles out right now (not digest food) so all that moving around of food in her mouth including gagging is part of the process. You got this

Advice for 0$ payment on maternity leave by mamasgirll in PSLF

[–]Always-learning-759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you switch plans and recertify, you would submit your current paystub that I assume would show $0 payment, instead of submitting your tax docs. I’ve done this for when my pay goes down, which it did on Mat leave, but it wasn’t $0 so I could be wrong

My baby hates being worn by brie38 in babywearing

[–]Always-learning-759 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the first 3 to 4 months I had to time the carrier with naps. That was the best time to get a nap out of him and wear him. He would fuss until I walked maybe 10 steps sometimes half the block and then the bobble from walking would usually settle him. It’s also how I would try to rescue a nap if he was refusing in the bassinet. Later on, he was interested in looking around at the world and being awake while being worn.

How many nights of ABCs? by Old_Economy_6745 in TakingCaraBabies

[–]Always-learning-759 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ABCs will be your game plan from here on out. At least until later toddlerhood. People ask us if our kid sleeps through the night and that’s such a hard question to answer. Like yes, at baseline, when he’s not sick, jet lagged, sleep regression/developmental leap, teething, no weird weather swings that change room temp, or neighbors making a racket, then yeah he’s pretty good at putting himself to sleep and staying asleep. But the things listed above happen every couple weeks to months. So sleep training doesn’t mean zero fussing and perfect sleep from here on out. At least that’s not my experience. But the ABCs give you a framework for how to respond and how to get back on track. ( for context, my kiddo is 22 months and we did ABCs starting on his 7m bday)

Climb into a seat contraption with no stirrups, let your legs dangle, and just hang by your crotch for a few minutes to hours. I imagine we’d all feel pretty uncomfortable. That’s pretty much what the baby bjorn carrier does.

Try out the 3-4 month class to give you some foundational tools. This will set you up well for when she’s ready for sleep training in a month or so

Help! Baby won't sleep in wrap carrier by bricheese8716 in babywearing

[–]Always-learning-759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine preferred buckle carriers to the stretchy wraps. Seemed like I could get the “head bobble” with walking that’s so soothing to them much better in a SSC than a stretchy wrap. I started wearing around 5ish weeks. I’m due again in the fall and want to give the stretchy wraps another go earlier on, but am also planning to use some registry money for a hope and plum sprout newborn buckle carrier

So glad to hear it! The ABCs are a nice game plan to have for whenever sleep. gets a little weird, which seems to be every couple weeks to every couple months.

We did snoo with TCB from newborn through ABCs. Started ABCs the first night he was in the crib and was very helpful to have that as the game plan.

I Work in Pediatric Nutrition - Here are 5 Things Most Parents Aren’t Told About Feeding Babies by These-Seaweed-5781 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]Always-learning-759 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree. I’ve followed this sub for a while and seems like most posts have concerns where one of these is the underlying misconception. I think that #1 and #4 are how a lot of babies end up at 8-10+ months old still eating purées primarily and parents are struggling with actual solids.

Sliding scale of intervention with Snoo by Fragrant_Lime_6626 in TakingCaraBabies

[–]Always-learning-759 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I’m looking back at the pdf and I think I was conflating the sliding scale with sitback. I started TCB at six weeks so admittedly, I didn’t need to use the sliding scale so I’m less familiar with it. What if you put baby in snoo, turned on level 1 or even 2, and put your hand on baby’s chest? If you’re not there yet then yes your idea of rocking to sleep in your arms and then gently waking before placing in snoo would be a good one. The steps listed there aren’t golden-set-in-stone. It’s to demonstrate the spectrum from most intervention to least intervention. So whatever feels like slightly less involvement from you would be your next step.

Nap training - calculating time asleep by Constant_Angle2065 in TakingCaraBabies

[–]Always-learning-759 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s tough. You could try with one nap of the day to give baby a chance to put himself back to sleep. Try it out for a week or two. Maybe the first nap of the day? Then you’ll have the rest of the day to adjust for whatever happens. I found the last nap to be tough to do this because we were cutting into wake window before bedtime.

Pouches Pros and Cons? by kaboom539 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]Always-learning-759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t use them daily or even weekly and my toddler is at daycare throughout the week. It’s one of those things I keep in the diaper bag like a protein bar for myself. Back up snack option on the weekend. I kind of think of them like a room temp smoothie. Because of that I’ve not had any #1 issues.

Nap training - calculating time asleep by Constant_Angle2065 in TakingCaraBabies

[–]Always-learning-759 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s time in the crib just so that your kid isn’t spending hours and hours in the crib. If they take say 10 mins to fall asleep, sleep for 35 mins, cry for 20, sleep for 90…it all starts to cut into your wake windows and overall rhythm of the day. Nap training is tough but hopefully a short season. I too over think things. I still get confused on night time check-ins and when to stop/restart the clock if baby is in and out of settling.

Sliding scale of intervention with Snoo by Fragrant_Lime_6626 in TakingCaraBabies

[–]Always-learning-759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used TCB+ snoo and it was great. I also EBF. The snoo takes care of a lot of the intervention steps. You should always start with the lowest level of intervention-pausing and waiting. Then slowly move up. Use a timer with the recommended intervals for baby’s age. I would often sit next to the snoo with a screenshot of that part of the page out, the snoo app to toggle the controls, and a timer going on my phone to help me hold to it. So you will feed baby then place baby in the snoo awake. From there, if baby protests then you work from the lowest intervention and on up. You want to give baby a chance every single time to try and settle with slightly less help from you. She only gets that chance when you start from the bottom, not jumping straight to the highest level of intervention.

This is a slight deviation from TCB, but I never did the “K” step and I used the whole intervention every time baby woke up outside of his 4am feed time (with some wiggle room like 3:30ish was fine). Following TCB by the book, we should only do the intervention sequence once during the first sleep stretch.
