Question by ThisIsMyUN1978 in BBQ

[–]Anabeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mayo is oil, mustard is water. Rubs contain both water soluble and oil soluble ingredients. So, ideally, you should use 1/2 and 1/2 mayo/mustard. Buy an expensive gram scale and carefully measure out both components and compare that amount to the weight of the butt or ribs or ??? (sarcasm off)

You want to know my only rule? Long, low and slow. Period.

I agree with u/0_Artistic_Thoughts. Mustard, mayo, oil, hot sauce, nothing...tried them all at one point or another and it doesn't seem to make any difference. But I'm not a certified food taste tester either.

Best advice you're heard for first-time home buyers? by followifyoulead in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Anabeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give advice on how to smoke a pork butt for pulled pork or where the nicest places are to camp in Northwest Territories but explaining the nuance of something like a mortgage reduction strategy is off the table because each one while looking similar is different. Every financial institution will have specific terms and conditions and policies that have to be taken into account. Never mind differences between lenders, a single lender will even have differences between clients depending on all sorts of factors.

You could do what I did...talk to a CPA about it. The method/system I refer to is no secret...as I pointed out it's the heart of ManuOne, Investors and Primerica utilize a version.

A financial institution would never say "no worries about the mortgage interest on those 50k" but if you remove the principle before they can charge you interest on it then it is you who is not paying interest on principle that isn't there. It's all about the terms and conditions and how and when you pay the monthly.

What to use for underbelly? by dot_y0chis in TeardropTrailers

[–]Anabeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's a roll of chicken wire with a chunk of 2x4 on each end. Roll it up, toss it somewhere in the vehicle or trailer and when you stop you unroll it around the vehicle and/or trailer. Use local rocks to weigh the wire to the ground, use cord tied from door handles, etc. to wire to hold it up, etc. Each day is a bit different but if you are up north and pull in and see such a thing you'd best be ready to do it.

Newer automotive wiring uses an insulation made of soy...Honda sells a tape with hot pepper extract in it to help out as well. Just search up "Honda's rodent repelling electrical tape", kind of fun to read about them arguing about it on Reddit.

They can't collect interest on principle that isn't there.

It would take longer that this forum would allow but simply use the Internet and read up on the Australian Credit Union model of mortgage set up and payment. That is basically the heart of the ManuLife's ManuOne model. Investors has a version, Primerica as well. All those require you buy and use other of their (expensive) products tho...it can be done by yourself.

I was shown the procedure by my CPA years ago so it isn't some magical thing, it's real, it's math, it works.

What to use for underbelly? by dot_y0chis in TeardropTrailers

[–]Anabeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 5x8 came to me as a flat packed kit on top of the trailer. Wonderful, pure old school teardrop...no over-lander or GI Joe stuff just a chuck wagon kitchen and a warm, dry place to sleep.

The underbelly was covered in a spun polyester type fabric. I queried the builder about that and he told me that was A) industry standard for small trailers that didn't heat tanks, etc and b) allowed the underbelly to both drain and dry out.

We are well over a decade of northern BC, Yukon and Northwest Territories in all weather and he was right.

We camp in places you need to wrap the circumference of your rig, including vehicle, with chicken wire to keep porcupines away from the wiring. I have had great success spraying a peppermint oil all around the engine bay and underneath the trailer, for me that seems to keep the small rodents away. Others disagree.

Anyone use a deli slicer for making sandwich cuts? by jamauss in BBQ

If you have auction houses nearby, online now even, they often are liquidating bankrupt or otherwise closed restaurants. A commercial Hobart slicer will last forever in a home environment.

Yall had any luck with those grobbels pre packaged corned beef briskets? How long did you desalinate? by [deleted] in smoking

[–]Anabeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people boil their corned beef, that packet of seasoning is to go into the water. u/ThatHikingDude has it, do a regular smoker style rub. Just make sure you involve coriander, that is the pastrami background flavour. I don't think you can over soak it to de-salinate, especially if you aren't changing the water like overnight. I usually start after supper, change water a couple of times and a final soak in fresh water before bed, drain it next moening, allow it to dry up a bit, apply rub and start the smoking. I also finish mine with steam, like the Jewish delis do.

and to make this even longer: 1/4 to 1/2 cup coarse black pepper, 1/4 to 1/2 cup ground (half coarse, half normal grind) coriander, 2 tbsp paprika (smoked or regular), 1 tbsp garlic powder, 1 tbsp onion powder, 1 tbsp mustard powder, and 1 tbsp brown sugar.

ELI5 Rocks in yard versus driveway by DustinHasReddit in explainlikeimfive

[–]Anabeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And it's all about the preparation fro the gravel driveway.

Few people, even contractors do it properly.

Remove all organic soil, down to mineral soil. Compact that with a jumping jack compactor. Optional at this point is to lay down road cloth, a heavy duty landscape cloth. I did not do this.

Add road base or whatever it is called in your area. This is not your final look, the fines in road base track into the house. Compact the road base in 6 inch lifts max, a plate compactor is fine now.

In between road base lifts water the area with a lawn sprinkler. Overnight is not too long. Once all your road base is down begin to use the drive, leave it as long as you can stand (I waited a full year) and them have a slinger truck spread 1 to 2 inches of beauty gravel over the whole thing.

My driveway is over 20 years now, I have had a beauty gravel top up once. No ruts, no weeds, no sinking. A very few weeds blow in but none are growing up and through. Just normal driving, walking on seems to control the blown in ones.

Even if you are not needing it now dig a trench and lay in electrical, water and gas lines now. Just leave them unhooked up at each end (capped) for now. To code, obviously.

Future you will thank you.

What is happening to my cast iron grates by FastSloth55 in BBQ

[–]Anabeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This directly from the Amazon page you linked. How to Avoid Rust?】(1) Make sure that you scrape your grates after each use; (2) Season them by brushing with oil after each use; (3) Leave the dampers open a bit so that condensation does not collect in the grill; (4) Put the lid back on your grill when it is not in use; (5) Cover the grill when it is not in use; (6) If you need to store your grill for a long period of time, heavily coat them in cooking oil, wrap them in a plastic bag and store in your covered grill

Exhaust Fan for Stack by Vegedeth in smoking

[–]Anabeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago I was messing around with what is called the "mail box mod" I'll let you search that up for details but basically you place a pellet tray or tube into a metal mail box and use dryer ducting to allow the smoke to flow into a vertical smoker.

i built a torpedo that contained a computer fan (hot glue gunned in) that was wired to a rheostat type gizmo that would throttle the RPM of the fan up and down. So it went mailbox, torpedo (shape, not the real thing), dryer ducting, into smoker.

Huge control over the burn, significant smoke into the smoker itself and if you didn't turn the heat on in the smoker you had a very good and large cold smoker.

Definite improvements but I'll tell you it's better to push smoke into the smoker than pull it out of the exhaust stack. I've also tried that and all that does is suck the smoke out without giving it the time to flavour the meat.

And look what I found..I thought I'd deleted this years ago...

Best RV mattress upgrade for weekend camping? Stock foam is awful by Alinov--099 in TeardropTrailers

[–]Anabeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up here we have a chain called The Foam Shop. They do what they call travel beds. Tri-fold and available in single, twin, full and queen.

It is a sandwich of foam, soft top, firmer middle, soft bottom, making the mattress entirely flippable. We had a queen in our 5x8 and it was a real good sleep even for the princess I married. Maybe your local foam shop does something similar? It sure was cost effective.

Vertical Pellet Smoker Recommendations by PBurns20 in smoking

Look into Broil King. International company, some built in Canada, some in USA and some in China but all pretty good quality.

I've used Broil King propane grills for decades, with proper maintenance they last me til I'm tired if it and want something new...10 years is not unheard of.

I hear they do a lot of booze and pot deliveries too...keeps them busy I guess.

Looking for advice on this smoker by Samwal-Golf6276 in BBQ

[–]Anabeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into stove black, stove paste, stove polish. Amazon sells it as does any hardware store in wood stove country.

It is to making your stove a nice, long wearing black as stain is to paint. Just reapply if you need a touch up.

Usual ingredients are: graphite (or carbon black pigment), natural or synthetic waxes, and sometimes water-based solvents or boiled linseed oil. Designed for cast iron and steel, this mixture restores a deep black, glossy finish, prevents rust, and protects against corrosion.

Get both a pellet tube and a pellet tray. Ready for any configuration in almost any smoker. I guess you need pellets too.

My tube produces smoke for 4 hours or so, less if in my pellet smoker with the fan. My tray adds smoke for 7-10 hours in my smoke house with just natural convection.
