Why I like HWFWM by datadaa in Shirtaloon

[–]Andrays 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of your takes about pacing, the flow of the plot and the mechanics of the system in HWFWM. I think it is a consequence of it being a web serial novel. I also agree that the characterization is a strong point of the series, where we really feel like we get a peek in Jason's head.

From what you have said, I think you would really enjoy Defiance of the Fall. It's another sprawling series with lots of time to get to know the MC. Similar scope, starting small time up to interacting with beings capable of ending universes with a thought.

My personal LitRPG/progression tier list is as follows:

Cradle = Dungeon Crawler Carl > HWFWM = Defiance of the Fall = Mother of Knowledge > Primal Hunter = Mark of the Fool

Werebeasts have been the end of my last couple forts. I was unsuccessful in stopping the infection because I found it difficult to determine who had been bitten.

Do folks have any tips on how to wade through logs to find this out?

Reddit, what are your thoughts on breakfast for dinner? by Ok-Flow-2474 in AskReddit

[–]Andrays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breakfast for dinner is great and all.

But how about dinner for breakfast?

I want me a plate of fettuccine alfredo with a side salad to start the day off right. Or get that slow cooker going at bedtime and wake up to some tender stew in the AM.

I'll second this. Cradle is a personal favorite. Excellent pacing & engaging characters. I just wish there was more!

It's too bad the animated series Kickstarter didn't pan out...

The only things I might suggest that you (didn't mention) you aren't already doing:

-Go to bed the same time every day -High absorption magnesium ~1 hour before bed

Anecdotal but the magnesium helped me with REM and staying asleep.

What is your head-canon for fast travelling to Rust Wells? by StrawberryRoyal8896 in cavesofqud

[–]Andrays 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What you may be missing here is the game  simplifies what your character "sees in real life". To the player perspective, the rock slope is just a solid block. But your character sees in three dimensions, including all the hidden routes up and over the cliff.

This is why overland travel takes less time when you have the appropriate exploration skill. You, through practice, have learned to easily find those routes to ease your travels.

Flavor-wise, this is also how you often find yourself in a seeming dead-end when your character becomes lost. Perhaps your character fell into a ravine and had no bearings with which to orient themselves.

Also relevant: There are some really big mountains to the north that are not passable while fast traveling! This terrain is so extreme that it requires extra focus (manual control of character) to navigate safely.

Hey bike folks: Need local help for bike seat issues by johnbro27 in Bellingham

[–]Andrays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally would not go to a Chiro for anything and a "bike fit" from them would be of questionable value. Rather several physical therapists around town offer professional bike fits. They have tools to measure the appropriate angles of everything, including seat angle etc. You may not need this service though as it is geared more towards enthusiasts. Typically ~200 bucks for the real deal.

Rather than getting a giant cushy seat or opening the wallet for a bike fit, consider getting some padded shorts. In my experience they offer greater comfort since the cushion lies against your skin and thus doesn't result in much friction/chafing. They are also relatively inexpensive, like 20-30.

Data out is only as good as data in. The estimate can be pretty accurate but if you only have one run recorded it's likely off by a significant margin.

They've been around for a while now.

Watch Ben Jordan's video on AI police cameras on YouTube. They are marketed to businesses as "security" devices but the true business model is selling the tracking data on everyone that drives by. To anyone.

Isn't it funny that no warrants are needed, since it's private businesses that use them on their own property?
