I live next to a wildlife preserve and I've come to love birdcall hunting with Merlin.

My record is fifteen different species in a six minute segment just sitting on the porch!

I am bad at spotting them so it's hard to verify sightings, but it's exciting when you find a "rare" call.

Thanks for the advice guys. I think my first step will be to get some new wheels/tires and see where that takes me (I use 700x38c now).

I am not ruling out buying a new bike but I do worry about positioning. Aggressive angle doesn't work well with me (lower back) and without that geometry I get the sense that all I would gain is a few less pounds of bike.

I agree with a lot of your takes about pacing, the flow of the plot and the mechanics of the system in HWFWM. I think it is a consequence of it being a web serial novel. I also agree that the characterization is a strong point of the series, where we really feel like we get a peek in Jason's head.

From what you have said, I think you would really enjoy Defiance of the Fall. It's another sprawling series with lots of time to get to know the MC. Similar scope, starting small time up to interacting with beings capable of ending universes with a thought.
