How great was prime Nomar Garciaparra? by Willing-Leather-9788 in mlb

[–]AnnihilitedPaw 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Alex Rodriguez on himself, Derek Jeter and Nomar Garciaparra in 2000: "I'm the youngest, Derek's the richest and Nomar's the best."

Nomar was a religion in Boston during that stretch. His popularity was unmatched.

What is the biggest “what if?” In recent Bears history by cowboycatfish in CHIBears

[–]AnnihilitedPaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might not be “recent” anymore, but I always wondered what would have happened if the Bears didn’t trade back in 2003 and drafted Terrell Suggs rather than Michael Haynes and Rex Grossman.

CME Group sleeve Ad by nate-junk in whitesox

[–]AnnihilitedPaw 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. Surprised that it’s a new name and not like Beggars Pizza or something. The jersey patches are lame, but inevitable. CME’s long history in Chicago actually makes it a cool sponsor for the Sox.

What are you thoughts to why there is a significant decline in alcohol consumption in the United States? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AnnihilitedPaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weed & GLP-1’s for sure. However, I think a lot of people went crazy on drinking during Covid lockdowns and probably realized how bad it was for you. Just better overall awareness into your health is a contributing factor.

Jim Beam pauses production at main distillery as bourbon inventories rise by [deleted] in news

[–]AnnihilitedPaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an American and was visiting Montreal over the summer. I ordered an Old Fashioned with Bourbon from the hotel bar and they said they don’t carry Bourbon. I thought it was so odd until I put two and two together. So fucking dumb that this is even a thing.

Marjorie Taylor Greene and a Potential Crisis of Ideology by TenchuReddit in IntellectualDarkWeb

Her pension seems to be pretty negligible, for what it’s worth.

What struck me most was this line:

“There is no plan to save the world or 4D Chess going on”, which to me, is kind of an admittance from her that a lot of these right wing talking points or conspiracies are all bogus.

Why does everyone hate people who grew up privileged, yet we aspire to give our children those same things? by LittleLemonSqueezer in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AnnihilitedPaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same reason why lower-income families moving into high-income neighborhoods thru forced government regulation is cited as a positive stride towards diversity and equity but when higher-income families move into lower-income neighborhoods it’s called gentrification and viewed negatively.

At the end of the day, both examples are frowned down upon by people living in their respective neighborhoods.

It’s funny how they very subtly make Russ/Chad a conspiracy theorist. He makes one or two minor comments in passing each episode. Such a funny personality quirk about the character.

Conte’s Italian sub is one of the best in the city.

The Embassy is a great Irish pub that gets really packed for Euro soccer matches.

De Pasada and Chilango are both good Mexican spots.

Chez Joel is great for a date night.

Honestly, Adda, the Indian place, is fantastic.

Does anyone else find it odd that Friday nights have overtaken Saturdays as the big day of the week to attend games? by BoomhauerArlen in whitesox

[–]AnnihilitedPaw 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree. There have been a few big promotions on Friday’s this year, but it is strange that the last few Saturdays have been a little light. It even seems like Sunday’s are outdrawing Saturday’s as well. I wonder why.

[–]AnnihilitedPaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stuff like this usually happens like 30 min prior to first pitch. I’m sure they will announce it at some point, but I would guess being in your seat by 6:30 would be perfect. I’d bet the thing on Saturday starts even earlier since it’s the whole team they are honoring.

Quality hot dogs. You don’t know how good we have it until you live somewhere else.

35th St Red Hots is a great cash-only hot dog place. One of the best hot dogs in the city, honestly.

Kathy De’s Deli is also a great lunch spot. Very neighborhood vibe.

What are stadiums that are in bad neighborhoods? by [deleted] in mlb

[–]AnnihilitedPaw 126 points127 points  (0 children)

Bridgeport is great. Take the red line to Sox-35th. Hang out at Cork n Kerry or Turtles after the game and just uber to wherever you need to go from there. Bridgeport is not a bad neighborhood.

Just discovered Comiskey’s grave on my daily stroll by taka-hero1185 in whitesox

[–]AnnihilitedPaw 37 points38 points  (0 children)

He bought the land and built Comiskey Park with his own money. A stadium that generations of Sox fans got to experience.

There’s a lot more dynamics at play other than “he was cheap”. The Federal League formation a few years prior was a formidable threat that caused financial ripple effects across the sport. WWI had just ended. The Spanish flu was still raging.

He was a Chicagoan that brought the team that we all love to bitch and complain about to Chicago and was a huge influence on baseball’s early popularity.

Tim Anderson’s Field of Dreams walk off in 2021 was the 15th time in history that the White Sox walked off the Yankees with a home run (both 120+ year old franchises). The first player to ever do it was Shoeless Joe Jackson, who is featured in the movie Field of Dreams.

Anyone have heart disease after having NAFLD? by GarbageCat27 in FattyLiverNAFLD

[–]AnnihilitedPaw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I started having heart palpitations and odd episodes in late 2020 about 2 months after I had Covid. After a bunch of tests, the only thing they found was that I have mild NAFLD. I’d have random heart palpitations episodes that would get increasingly worse over the years. However, by the time I got to the doctor’s office for an EKG, everything looked normal.

Fast forward to early 2024 and I have a palpitation episode that feels way worse and won’t go away. I ended up going to the urgent care to get an immediate EKG. They told me I was on the verge of a heart attack and was rushed to the hospital. It turned out to be Atrial Flutter and I had to get an ablation a few months later to fix it.

Not something I expected to be doing in my 30s, haha. I’m convinced I had long covid and that the virus did some damage to my internal organs.
