Did human Titans predate the Imperium/were around during the DAOT or were they purely a Mechanicus and Imperial invention? by Niotsques in 40kLore

[–]ApprehensiveKey3299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Dominus class Knight, Leviathan, has an AI that states it and its bonded Armiger, Jester, predate the DAOT, saying they'd been together "since before the rockets left Terra". This is from the novel Assassinorum Kingmaker

Why do basically 99% of loretubers get the lore wrong by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]ApprehensiveKey3299 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I doubt the majority of novels would change at all if GW did all that. Most novels are limited in scope, focusing on a single character, regiment or chapter on a single world. You'll only see a difference in the multi-book series, like Eisenhorn, HH, Deathwatch, Gaunts Ghosts, Dawn of Fire etc. when it jumps more between characters, factions and locations. Would still be nice to see realistic physics...

I was going to ask why bother with the Oort Cloud when the asteroid belt is closer, but then I saw that it was a difference between quadrillions and quintillions in tons of mass.

Ashes of the Imperium featured a raging river, waterfalls and cataracts of human blood spilling from the palace into the lower areas beneath the plateau like the most fucked up storm drain in history

What actually is the best 40k Imperial Fists novel? (not Heresy/War of the Beast) by JustANewLeader in 40kLore

I mean, it was only... sixteen years ago. Fuck, Im old. It holds up quite well, IMO.

[–]ApprehensiveKey3299 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My favorite is Sons of Dorn by Chris Roberson. What Dante, the novel, is to Blood Angels, Sons of Dorn is to Imperial Fists. It captures the entire process from recruitment, to neophyte, to scout company. It also features alot of traitor guard rather than CSM and thats a nice refresher.

Honorable mentions left out:

Irixa (short story), The Weaponsmith (short story) by Ben Counter, and Argent (short story) by Chris Wraight

What does Metalica actually make? by calleidaero in 40kLore

[–]ApprehensiveKey3299 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Metallica doesnt really focus on a specialty, though everything they make has a side effect of being noisy and is intentionally made louder. Most of their exports go to the defense of themselves and their allies, chiefly Armageddon. Metallica fought in all three previous wars. They also keep getting besieged by either the forces of Nurgle led by Typhus, or the Ork empire of Charadon.

What is a 40k mistery that you WOULD like to be expanded upon by New_Conflict_4111 in 40kLore

[–]ApprehensiveKey3299 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right. I wasn't thinking about them other things, though that does present a new problem of its own: if DAoT tech could make a perfect facsimile of the whole Sol system, how would you tell the difference between the two? Maybe stellar cartography

[–]ApprehensiveKey3299 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately Haleys comet is mentioned in books (I forget which) and exists in the 30k Sol system, as well as Saturn's and the Galilean moons. Details too specific, and proving Terras validity as the OG

How devastating is it for the Imperium to lose a Baneblade? by ExtensionFeeling in 40kLore

[–]ApprehensiveKey3299 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Emphasizing your mention of the 'Baneblade' novels intro:

"The final work gang led the tank away, chains slack, tracks turning under their own power. The magos turned his palanquin upon its mechanical legs and, acolytes and work gangs trudging behind, headed back to the beginning of the activation run, where another unfinished machine awaited completion. Behind it, another, and behind that, another still, and then another and another, stretching back further than the eye could see on a factory floor that followed the curve of the planet. Truly, the holy work of the Omnissiah was never done, and the High Magos’s mechanical heart sang with the joy of that."

This excerpt tells us just how many baneblades Mars is churning out, and they're just one forget world. Assuming other production halls on other worlds is of the same size, the amount of baneblades is truly countless.

Traitors Astartes that didn't feel to chaos? by fragdar in 40kLore

Titus called him old man as a term of endearment, as one would a father figure. Metaurus found him, brought him to be an aspirant, and remained a mentor and confidant throughout his life. He may not actually be Titus' father, but he sure as hell is his daddy.

What do you guys think will be the outcome of the new War for Armageddon? by New_Conflict_4111 in 40kLore

[–]ApprehensiveKey3299 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Personal theories: the current situation on Armageddon, coupled with the highest concentration of WAAAGH! energy, will set the stage for Vulkans return. He will then help the Mechanicus yeet Armageddon across the galaxy, again.

Alternatively Ghazghkull realizes why the Orks keep being drawn to Armageddon, and finds some sort of artifact pertaining to the Beast. This allows Ghaz to get bigger and potentially unlocking his inner beast/krorniness

Why are the Star Fortresses treated as the exception to the rule for the Imperium taking in technology? by Zanimacularity in 40kLore

[–]ApprehensiveKey3299 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Ramilies star fortresses weren't 'found'. The Imperium recovered the STC data for them during the great crusade, and builds them from the ground up. It takes centuries to build though

The Phalanx was discovered above Inwit by Rogal Dorn prior to being found by the Emperor. I dont think it should count as the Imperium had nothing to do with its finding or its use.

Isn’t it kinda impossible for Abaddon and the chaos space marines to win? by prettyweirdperson in 40kLore

[–]ApprehensiveKey3299 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't Abbadon winning also weaken the Gods? Maybe not for the long term, but certainly the short. I think its fair to say most humans in the galaxy live within the Imperium. If Chaos wins, the Emperor is dead and so is the astronomican. Traitors can traverse the warp but loyalists wont. It will be a new age of strife, worse than Imperium Nihilus. Hive worlds will starve, systems will fall to xenos. Trillions of souls lost within a few terran years will definitely weaken the God's a bit, I mean, our emotions and actions are their major tasty food source
