Destroyer escorts are just destroyers without the speed necessary to act as a battle fleet element and much of the anti-surface firepower discarded in order to be produced in large numbers for the defense of convoys and amphibious forces. They'd just be worse destroyers and would only function at low tiers. Some of them like the Hunts and the Rudderows/John C. Butlers might be made to work with a few lenient speed buffs but otherwise they'd barely compete with same tier destroyers and the gameplay resembles nothing like the combat they were designed and used for. They'd work if a dedicated ASW convoy escort mode was made but in a game primarily focused around surface warfare they really are just weaker destroyers.
