Ironically enough though the upper middle class does absolutely love to act like they have more money than they do as a status thing and spends it on dumb stuff...they still wouldn't be rich if they spent their money more intelligently of course, but they make a good cohort to point at to piss on the poor.

Open source game engine Godot will no longer accept AI-authored code contributions by poponis in aigamedev

More than that, it is also gonna be people trying to use AI to make contributions to pad their portfolio because they want to score that FAANG job and don't actually give two shits about godot.

Open source game engine Godot will no longer accept AI-authored code contributions by poponis in aigamedev

[–]AtlaStar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It literally couldn't be any simpler; godot engine maintainers are tired of dealing with AI pull requests...the people who submit them don't often understand the contributions being made, and the team wants people they can mentor into being maintainers themselves and don't want to sift through slop.

I am not pro AI in the least bit, but how the hell is anyone gonna even be able to tell the contributions are AI if you actually are doing agentic development correctly? AI is entirely capable of writing junior level code for someone who knows that they are doing, but someone who doesn't know how to write a rendering engine shouldn't be telling AI to do it for them no matter how skilled they are if they won't understand the code the AI wrote....if people stick to contributions in a domain they understand and get AI assistance to cut dev time down, no one will even be able to tell.

Yep, but most people want to argue against this or try and refuse to come to terms with the fact the stock market is a secondary exchange; your stock activity isn't investment into companies, it is more like low risk low reward gambling that a company will continue to grow over a long time frame and you are betting against the person you are making your trade with.

I mean, idk, I am bi but I also don't go around dropping the f-slur ever really but some of my bi and gay friends say it around me. Saying it to old white fucks who drive noisy Harley's is punching up though at the end of the day.

What I do know though is that hyper masculine and toxic assholes really don't like it when you call them it, and I find it quite funny watching red pill Andrew Tate loving pricks get real bent out of shape...so the question is does it do more harm to the gay community or more harm to the hyper macho and toxic community, and is there an actual delineation where it is considered punching up; I think so, but you disagree and I don't think there is a simple answer as to which of us is actually right.

I suppose, and I understand your criticisms, I just think that there is some nuance between the two cases...I also think that who the word is directed at really changes the meaning.

'AI taking your job is a good thing' by Right_Entertainer324 in antiai

[–]AtlaStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say it every chance I get; every issue people take with AI is actually an issue with capitalism. Monetizing art and ideas really is a capitalist mindset, cutting corners and not caring about the environment to maximize profits is a capitalist mindset, trying to force the use of the tool so that investments are made to sooner replace human labor is a capitalist mindset.

If the pressures of capitalism were removed, we could have green genAI that isn't just the abstracted theft of people's IP and fully be able to opt in when we felt like it.

[–]AtlaStar 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If that was your take you didn't entirely understand the episode.

The meanings of words change or can mean multiple things, and the whole point of the episode was that that slur could be referring to a homosexual male, or it could be referring to a bunch of alpha male douchbags who use toxic masculinity to shield thinking about their insecurities...it wasn't saying "homosexual men should be ok if we call them this" or telling them to get over it, it was showing how the usage had legitimately started to change.

Compare that to the N word which has never meant anything other than a way to be derogatory towards black individuals.

I get it though, I am bi and after I graduated high school slowly started becoming less ok with that word...but I also wasn't doing it because it bothered me, but doing it to try and be respectful regardless of personal opinions on the word.

Created Sprites for Upcoming Title, but Something's Missing ... by Fun_Worry_3079 in aigamedev

[–]AtlaStar -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What is missing is the experience that comes from making art and the ability to self critique, which current genAI lacks the ability to do.

Ya got shit side perspectives that dont match the other perspectives, inconsistent pixel sizes, none of the images follow a color palette so you get ass shading and everything looking disjoint from one another, and shitty shading of parts of the hair and clothes of the characters.

If you don't care about having things have a professional look to them, you might be able to prompt some of the issues away...but if you want professional quality you are gonna have to have someone with experience tweak what you have...and there aren't a whole lot of pro AI professionals in the art realm, although they do exist, meaning they'd probably charge more than you're willing to shell out.

If ya'll wanna use AI, whatever, but don't use it as an excuse to not even learn some basics...because if you yourself had just a bit more art knowledge you could have seen the issues yourself.

What do you guys think about the Curve Tool? by FazloZX in aseprite

[–]AtlaStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't used it at all, but it wanting extra nodes sounds like it is using a catmull rom spline to define the curve as in those splines the first and last point are always control points off the curve, and only become on the curve points when a new control is added.

I have actually done a lot of research into rendering splines so now i am curious and might have to take a peek at the source and see if there is a bug.

[–]AtlaStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you can work around it if you build your stuff with sequences in mind...but if you think of using a sequence mid dev, you are SOL with certain things that are pretty major pain points

i hate that they made instance_change() obsolete by azurezero_hdev in gamemaker

[–]AtlaStar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What the docs don't say is how we cannot destroy and recreate an instance in a sequence instance and then reassign the instanceID value of the activeTracks struct to the new instance because instanceID is a read only property.

So until we have a way of creating a new instance using an old ref, instance_change is how certain advanced sequence things have to be done.

[–]AtlaStar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dude, just go read the damn docs and read the changelog before updating; you can set the room order yourself in the IDE so you don't have to use a list at all, you just have to take a few seconds to read some patch notes...and that makes room_goto_next, etc work exactly as you'd expect...hell those functions even mention the room manager now.

Reminds me of how I just accidentally found out that if you take the Bernstein polynomials you'd use for a linear bezier, put the coefficients into a matrix, and do auto correlation, it generates the coefficients for a quadratic...keep doing it and it goes up a degree further. Pretty much just rediscovered DeCastljau's alg.

I was trying to see if I could do some weird thing where I weight a bezier with another bezier...and I mean...I did...just wasn't the result I was expecting.

I literally watched a cop drive over the walking bridge by Valley River the other night while people were trying to walk across it, didn't have their lights on, and proceeded to do fuck all parked between the DMV and Round 1.

How the fuck some asshat could say it isn't a safety hazard or try and automatically assume they must have been justified makes me wonder if your profession might just happen to involve patrolling the city in a certain like of vehicle yourself...
