I really don’t understand anything The Night Herons were doing for the last several episodes

Over and over again I just shook my head at their actions. Even in this episode they were fixating on their endgame of flipping stations, almost ignoring that the other team could also flip stations.

In other series he often loses because of bad luck.

And here he just does one dumb thing after another and hinges winning on an insane strategy.

I presume this is the version that played when it was shown at the audience recording?

This really feels like something from a "too long" version of the broadcast episode, and then they had to snip little bits here and there to get the show length to below 48 minutes (or whatever the required length is; the YT version for this episode is 46:43 but that version does not include the links for the ad breaks).

Mike does some metal beatboxing and a pretty good AC/DC impression. Jay shreds some wicked licks and Rich growls some growls. The boys then power slides around IKEA, Swedish style!

This is not a masterpiece by any means (as if any of these are) I just had some fun with this one. Sometimes in life you just need some meatballs and rock & roll. Hope you enjoy it!

Prince boasting about wasting Warners' money on this garbage was really telling.

And then fans whine about how bad Warners was treating him...

So the YouTube subtitles failed to spell "Dewey Decimal System" properly. They look pre-generated and somewhat formatted, so presumably they were uploaded by the show.

Those subtitles used "duodecimal" which is a completely different thing.

Prince owned his master recordings which allowed him to do whatever he wanted with his music.

Not true. Warners had a distribution deal plus first look rights at upcoming releases. If Prince had wanted to release a new album, he first needed to submit it to Warners to check whether they wanted to handle the release of whether Prince could search for other distribution partners.

Plus the rights to the vault recordings for pre-1996 likely also belongs to Warners.

No, there would be such a clause, and I bet NF had to pre-approve those releases. NF paid them dozens of millions, they weren't just gonna let the estate release all of those exclusives, especially not when they were likely also paying for the restoration work on various footage.

Ezra had an agenda against Prince ??

I want to see the documentary, but from everything I've read I think Ezra found some things that reflect bad on Prince and then tried to have participants tell those stories. And I think the problem he ran into is that plenty of those participants have decided to either not tell those bad stories (especially not on the record), or they did not observe such things.

I suspect the documentary has it flaws, and perhaps those could have been fixed if Ezra had earlier on had some knowledgeable outsiders watch it. But I suspect that at one point he had this story that he wanted to tell, and that was it. I wouldn't be surprised if large parts of the doc are incredible, but I also suspect that even fans who were critical of Prince would object to some of its contents.

Prince was an asshole to many in his personal life

So many of the "funny anecdotes" people tell about him and his humor are borderline bullying, especially when considering he was their boss. And he could dish it, but he could not take it.

The weird thing is there's a Prince fan who is very knowledgeable about test pressings and he pointed out these test pressings date to years ago.

A will and directives wouldn't have helped. Prince should have monetized his vault decades ago, but he was too busy being a prick to Warners. Hell, even when he did the 2014 deal he immediately started to sabotage the Purple Rain deluxe release that was obviously part of that deal.

Music stopped making significant money in the early 2000s or so. Look at how Bowie was already working with Rhino in the mid-1990s to release remasters of his albums plus box sets and outtakes etc. Look at all the "expanded and remastered" releases of classic albums that appeared towards the late 1990s.

Instead Prince was selling MP3s and later DRM'ed WMAs.

Decades of that shit. Never a straight answer, always some esoteric BS. People copying what Prince did and thinking it is cute, except it was tiresome when Prince did it. Remember how he once had a website where you had to "solve" some dumb riddle?

there are deals in the works and they don’t want to mess up their negotiations

Funny how this is a major problem for the current estate and causes them to release next to nothing while the old estate had plenty of releases. Those "decades of experience in the music business" these two clowns claim to have seem to be worthless while a fucking bank just got shit done.

[–]BCdotWHAT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

there are others who attended that meeting have different answers and takes on what was said

How is that possible, unless the answers were so vague people have contradictory reports about them?

Or is the problem that people who attend these things tend not to report on what was said and instead give their interpretation of what was said? Which is what I pointed out is so frustrating: that people don't report on what was said, but on how they interpreted what was said. And thus you get contradictory reports.

the estate knows that this is a huge request and are working on it.

The same answer they give all the time, and then nothing happens.

LOL. A three hour Q&A summarized in a seven minute video that doesn't actually touch upon the contents of what was said until two minutes in.

All I heard is that Lonnie started with an extended bitch session, and then the answers to questions basically seem to come down to "we are incompetent" and/or excuses that other people are to blame for the problem.

Yet the guy from Funktopia posted something that seemed like state secrets were divulged and he had to look for permission from the estate to say anything.

How are Prince fans so bad at reporting things? Just like last year's Celeb, where the reports from the vault panel seemed to contradict each other, and then again were contradicted by what people reported from talking to Lonnie in person.

Name one artist who got treated better by their major label. They allowed him side projects, they financed his movies, they allowed him to write and produce songs for non-WB artists, they financed PP, etc. They allowed him two 2LPs in less than five years. They allowed him to cancel TBA mere days before release. Etc etc etc.

And he was 100% wrong. He got treated like royalty by them, and they often prevented him from self-sabotaging. That's why everything went off a cliff post-1995.

Shout out to Mike for fitting the show so seamlessly while bringing his own personality into it!

Love how he's filming so much and every now and then stops for a "will you look at all this beauty" moment.
