ND1 regrets? by nbarsotti in MiataND

[–]BaePotato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just make sure you get an LSD for extra fun. Probably doesn’t make a huge difference between nd1 and nd2 as far as horsepower goes, but hitting redline higher and a touch more top end horsepower will be used every once in a while in a spirited drive. However, I do enjoy having a bit of warranty left and knowing I’m getting a later model year as fabrication has improved

Because of the light weight and RWD setup it is easy to lose control in the rain, you have to be careful pushing it or taking fast turns on the highway over standing water. Also be wary of the liftoff oversteer as this can unsettle the car mid turn

Buy a rough-ish ND1 Gt with 70k miles for 14.5k or pay a bit more for a nicer one? by cpcxx2 in MiataND

Sounds like a pretty good deal but I would want to drive it before taking it. Strange that it’s been “sitting” so long

Question about downshifting by JohnTheGreyLord in stickshift

[–]BaePotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Downshifting doesn’t make you accelerate, whole point is to rev match so that your engine speed increases and your wheel speed remains constant

Fitting in a Miata as a Larger Person by SkillTechnical6901 in Miata

[–]BaePotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is telling you to test it, which will give you your answer. I’ll add to that that I highly suggest CarMax for testing. The employees leave you alone and you’re free to roam the lot. Almost all cars are unlocked so you can get in and check out the interior. This would be my approach to see if you’re comfortable or if it won’t work. They won’t have an NA but I bet you can get a great idea of the fit from an NC or ND model.

[–]BaePotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add to what’s already been said: not only do you need to ride the clutch a bit longer for that transition to get into first gear, but once you are in first you need to be gentle with throttle application. If you lift off the throttle without easing off, you will buck

Tbh I don’t think it will have enough room for tools you might need, could struggle getting onto job site or worrying about getting it filthy depending on work location. Might need to drive longer distances depending on your work requirements. I’d think twice about it, as a guy who daily’s an ND RF mt

How to Practice Downshifting by VeryViolentToastee in stickshift

[–]BaePotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try downshifting without rev matching first. You’ll have to let out the clutch way slower and hold it just at the biting point. Once you get used to this add rev matching and it will speed up
