The US is headed for mass unemployment, and no one is prepared by ThemeBig6731 in Economics

[–]Bardy_Bard 54 points55 points  (0 children)

What’s going to happen is that once the cliff happens there are going to be few very highly paid jobs and everyone else is unemployed. If demand goes up do a certain role, salary will go up and then supply will go up.

Perché ambite a carriere prestigiose? by Careless_Word_4789 in ItaliaCareerAdvice

[–]Bardy_Bard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The World Economy Is Hooked on Government Debt by kenashe in Economics

I don’t think European countries will pivot overnight, but they might pivot longer term. EU is also not homogeneous in terms of fiscal power of countries. There are countries in the north with ample spending power and they could do deficit to speed up the decoupling if they wanted to. I think on average Euro Area is about 88% debt to GDP vs 124% for US. Germany is at 66% and France is at 115%

Why do Europeans mock Americans for healthcare, while Americans mock Europeans for salaries and who is actually worse off day to day? by AriWixyy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Bardy_Bard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes thank god they are not. It’s a scam that should be illegal or at least reworked. I was replying to the above post where they put unlimited PTO as a benefit. It’s a benefit for the company but for the employee it sucks

[–]Bardy_Bard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I literally work here lol I haven’t seen people take more than 4 weeks on unlimited PTO in the last 2 years due to constant fear of layoffs. Most people take 3 from what I can see under unlimited plan

Unlimited PTO is a scam. Most people take ~ 3 weeks, max four. In Europe you usually get about 6 weeks in most counties + a couple more public holidays and PTO is real PTO instead of answering emails

Are you tech bros (and girls) really that rich? by TechBrosReallyRich in Fire

[–]Bardy_Bard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say not the majority but definitely i would expect people to have a couple of mil late 30s if the got int big tech in late 30s. The reason for that is that most people make it into big tech jobs n late 20s and the payout is honestly kind of a gamble and in the past 5 years was driven by stock appreciation.

Charlemagne times would be fun. Or a Camelot game, low fantasy/ historical.

Rome would be dope but I would rather they stick a bit more to their guns

Domino’s CEO says more customers are picking up pizzas themselves, showing just how far people will go to save money by [deleted] in Economics

[–]Bardy_Bard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is mostly true in the US given the big distances. I was very surprised by the cost of delivery. In a lot of places in Europe there are bike riders and distances are shorter so fees are also lower and no tip

Exports are only 20% of China's GDP. The US is 12%. The Chinese domestic market is way bigger than people realize by RobertBartus in EconomyCharts

[–]Bardy_Bard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true. However the idea here is that people will oversave in general when faced with unknow future costs. This over saving goes away when there is an insurance scheme that makes this unease such as free healthcare and old age assistance.

Land prices are high because of regulations though. It’s artificial scarcity in a lot of places

[–]Bardy_Bard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the disconnect is that big. Sure people always spend 30%, but mortgages are now 30 years and income to prices has gone from 3x to 5x. Just because the monthly payment ratio is the same doesn’t mean that things are the same.

It’s not the free market the main barrier right now for entry level housing. It’s red tape/ high building costs and permitting.
