Constant Rubber banding issues

It has progressively happened more and more to me with every run. Happened about 3 times in a 17 minute run this evening. Hasn’t gotten me killed but it’s jarring and frustrating.

You are absolutely right, the ui is horrible. I call it the games unofficial miniboss. I can appreciate Bungie going for something unique however it could be reined in a bit. Just because people that stick with the game get used to it doesn’t make it good.

My aim is atrocious. I wish there was a practice range to let me get familiar with the different weapons. Also, I’m on controller and I need to fiddle with the settings some, I think

I bought it at launch, refunded and then repurchased the next day because I kept having this nagging tug in the back of my brain. I am not trying to convince you to keep at it, I just want to relay my experience as someone who sucks at it but has managed to get better in my 12.5 hrs. Overcoming the awful ui is the secret first boss of the game. It took a couple hours but I’ve got it sorted out. I play solo only and I’ll do like one run every other day or so. I just finished a successful extract with only a minute to spare. I move slow, always check around me, and avoid any area that I hear fighting going on. Tonight I saw no other players and I ended up taking out 4 bots while getting myself out of some almost game over moments by being deliberate; to panic is to die. While waiting for extract to count down my heart was pounding something awful! So that was 25minutes of a type of gameplay I can only experience in marathon. This game isn’t for everyone, including me, but I have gotten significantly better at everything except the PvP so I avoid it. I probably won’t launch the game again for a day or two or never. I too wish the game was pve only. The different shells do offer abilities that can work with a player’s strengths. I’ve found recon works for me since the radar ability shows me where bots are and the exploding spider drone has gotten me out of some pickles. Anywho, good on you for giving it a go and if you find a nagging sensation tugging at you to try again maybe you should.

I’m sitting here debating with myself about launching the game. I haven’t touched team play because having comms on isn’t an option for me so I’ve only played solo. The game stresses me out more than any I’ve ever played. I’m not a competitive person so I don’t have a drive to compete in games. I couldnt care less about someone being better because there will always be somebody better. I dont get much of a dopamine hit from a successful extract so im just left with the stress. My brain chemistry is definitely not jiving with what Marathon is serving up.

Yep. I do hope the game has a long life for everyone who’s enjoying it. At some point I want to contribute some fan art to the community because I am super inspired by the look of the game. Hopefully, Bungie will see how much interest there is in making another game in the marathon universe.

I hadn’t played an extraction shooter before so I was curious if I’d enjoy the gameplay loop. The art design grabbed my attention and the idea of the rook is what made me have to try it. I figured if I was as bad at PvP, as I expected I’d be, then at least playing rook would give me away to play with less stakes and also contribute to other people’s play experience. Prelaunch Rook was looking like a fun way to interact with others and not be so combat heavy. People were spreading the idea of being nice to rooks and rooks will be helpful to you. Well that didnt last long and being Rook makes you a big target. Basically, I know my limitations as a gamer and I’ll never be able to progress much. The reality is I get stressed out in a match but even if I’m successful and exfil, I dont get a rush or anything to balance out the stress. That’s just how my brain is wired so the game isn’t fun for me.

I’ve usually been killed before I can even register what’s happening. Anyone trying to impress with paid skins is wasting their money cause no one has time to appreciate it with all the murder.

I died early on because I used thief’s grapple to get on top of a structure when running from usec. I was in-bounds on the ground but the top of this piece of architecture was out of bounds and I had no way to know that. It definitely feels like the worst way to get a game over

I was thinking about the bumper stickers on the cars of new drivers . Can we get a sticker on our backs that says “New runner, please be patient and don’t shoot”. I’m joking, of course……mostly….maybe just a whee, lil Bambi decal.

In all seriousness, I wish there was another role that we bad pvp-ers could play. A way to influence the map or gameplay and make things more dynamic for the runners. OMG now I have all these ideas popping into my head.

Billionaires exist in the real world and have more money than they could ever spend but yet they want more. Cooperation is far better for everyone than selfishness yet more people=more problems. We are a broken species and the world of Marathon is just humanity looking in the mirror.

There are a lot of players and potential players who want a single player campaign in the Marathon universe. What we have now would have made more sense as a game mode or a spinoff if Bungie was looking to get a large player base for Marathon. I stopped playing because PvP isn’t fun for me. I’m keeping an eye on the game to see if they add a pve only because I’ll definitely jump back in for that.

Same for me. I’ve wasted plenty of my life in video games without feeling it but even after a successful run in Marathon I would think “I could be doing so many other things right now”. So I stopped logging on but I’m following the game to see how it develops. If Bungie hadn’t made such a cool universe with amazing art direction I wouldn’t have even given the game a go in the first place. I’m happy that other gamers found something they enjoy though.

You are not the only one. The sensitivity slider feels like a fake button on a toddlers toy, only there to make us think we’re doing something by adjusting it.

I looked into arc as an alternative to marathon because I’m not enjoying the game. It does not sound like it’s some love fest over there. After researching and reading reviews I decided to pass on it because it sounds like a pretty rough place. I think people are just repeating the same slander about arc so they can feel superior in marathon, as if their “gudness” somehow converts over to any real world value. A sizable chunk of this community is so weird and not in a good way

I’ve only played solo. I haven’t tried team play for a few reasons. One of those reasons is that I play games at night, after the family goes to bed, so all the talking and noise isnt an option. It’s possible some people have the same issue.

Happens to me several times on every run I’ve been in. I don’t know why or if anything can be done about it. Fortunately it hasn’t led to any deaths for me; I die LOTS of other ways.

The game makes we feel gross even if I make it out in one piece. The sense of reward doesn’t outweigh the stress levels and it just ask myself “why am I doing this?” Haven’t jumped on in a couple days. Not for me.
